Great still use today – We bought the very first release one and still use it today and have no problems with it, we also bought a secound one for spare room.We use both often from playing games to watching blurry movies , updated them a couple times with no problem.
Awful – Needs to have update installed every time it’s turned on. Too slow to use for internet. No way to easily alter password for store. Should incorrect information be typed, need to back out of whole system let alone single page. Could keep going but put short, it does my head in!!!
SONY PS3 No repairs only replacement with a price!! – My 2 yr Old PlayStation 3 started having overheating issues, gets heated up in around 30 mins and power goes off. It remains off till it cools down. Visited the nearest Sony service centre but they refused to inspect the unit saying Sony has no repair policy on PS 3 and they could replace the console with new one provided I pay 50% of the MRP of… Read more
new one. Was surprised to know that, it could be just the dust accumulation which is creating the problem but I have to pay around INR 12,000.
And what if the replaced one also breaks down in 1.5 years.. You disappointed me Sony.

Great product – I been using the playstation 3 for over 3 yrears without any problems. It is a complete entertainment package. You can play games, cds, dvds, and blu-ray. Able to access the internet on the Playstation 3 and use online streaming services like Netflix.
The old Fat PS3 is still running like new!! – Blueray - Yes Media Streaming from PS - Yes Netflix - Yes Home Audio System - Yes TV Tuner? - Yes - With PlayTV USB add on. Seroiusly its old and its just damn amazing.. all my xbox 360's died yet this beast just keeps on running - ~ 4hrs a day for 6+ years. THANK YOU SONY!!
I loved it!!! – I have just bought my dream playstaion 3 console from personaldigital.com.au and I really amazed to get their overall customer services...mainly. their live chat agents. they are genious, prompt and very helpful.I loved all the system and highly recommend them to everyone...! Hope, I will get my future collection from here again! :-) customer service, quality, helpful mind

sony disappoints – started with a hiss and a roar but that was short lived...this unit didn't really have a lot of hours usage in the time it was used. It came as an accessory to our Sony TV. and its appeal to us was the blueray player and ability as a games console for our grandchildren to use ...however not long after the guarantee ran out it failed and enquiries… Read more
to Sony led to an over the top repair cost being quoted for repair. We have since found that this is not an uncommon problem with large numbers of owners also having the same situation. It seems that Sony is well aware of this and has continued to sell them anyway in spite of all the complaints. We are now wary of replacing this unit with another ps3 and may instead consider an opposition product as an alternative. POOR VALUE is the nicest thing that could be said about it Games were good , blueray worked fine once you figured it out...! Set-ups were time consuming and sometimes frustrating but it didn't deliver a reasonable return for the cost of the unit considering all the hype It's poor value
Sony should have maintained some quality control – This version of the PS3 looks solid with the backward compatible to PS2 games (not 100%). It is a solid Blueray player and upgradable to 3D blueray. The games are pretty ok but kind of lacked certain games which xbox have, example Fabio III, is like Sony didn't show any interest to keep customers happy unlike Xbox who knows Final Fantasy series is… Read more
hot and bought the rights to release the game on their platform. Unfortunately I hear too often about YLOD issue, in which the PS3 starts overheating because the heatsink compound has started to fail. I had no such issues on PS2 and to see people having this failure too often shows a lack of quality. Another downfall is the continuous firmware upgrade which makes you wonder, IS IT THAT NECESSARY? Maybe once or twice, but making everyone keep upgrading shows how stable their OS is. Price wise this was very expensive to begin with, is not only the slim PS3 has finally reduce a price of $300 is much affordable now. Plays Japanese games, Blueray technology YLODE issue should not have happened.
Are you serious on your negative, One Model had that issue, and they fixed that up quick smart unlike Microsoft,
Terrible – Stop gap solution - after winning the last console war due to developer support and a vast array of game titles to choose from, Sony try to blow everyone away with technology and end up copying MicroSoft (Live, Guide Button and Arcade) and Nintendo (SixAxis is useless).... and doing a poor imitation in the process. Example - there are five… Read more
settings in the PS3 for language etc and the first thing that every game asks you is... What Language? This machine needed to be built with a purpose in mind - not an answer to everything it's competitors do...
I'll stick to my Wii60 thanks ... Shiny... Excellent as a Blu-Ray Player that can also play games... Menu navigation is poor - Software support is lacking - Everything is still "on it's way" according to Sony (eg HOME) - Very poor design (2 USB ports??? Rock Band REQUIRES 3!!!)

Best console currently on the market – I love my PS3. It plays the best games on the market, and it doubles as a Blu-ray player. It will fit nicely on most TV cabinets as you can sit it in either the vertical or horizontal position. The PS4 is expected on the market in late 2013 but this is still a good buy that should provide many years of fun. Lots of games, inexpensive, doubles as a Blu-ray player. The on/off button is difficult to use. Can be quite noisy.
I love Playstation – I love the Playstation 3. I have had the same playstation 3 since it's release date and have never had a problem with it. I love it how online gaming is free (as that's what i mainly use it for - call of duty). I love the Playstation exclusive games like Uncharted and Heavy Rain, they are amazing games! I love the design, the playstation store... everything about it!
PS3 Bundle – Im new to the gaming world with a console as I have played on my desktop for years but I have always wanted a PS3 & ended up getting one online through JB HI FI. The price was excellent at $250 with 2 games including Hdmi cable,Usb Cable for charging the controller & wireless controller. It is simple to use but I actually thought it would be… Read more
quicker to load up games but on the other hand the quality of the games is excellent. I have Need for Speed - Hot Pursuit & Assassins Creed Brotherhood, the later I have finished but did play it alot. Need for Speed is excellent. Controller battery last for a long time without running out of charge.Games are excellent. Console is a little loud & large.
Not onyl for kids but also the young at heart – Sony Playstation 3 is a fantastic console for playing many types of games,it gives many hours of enjoyment for kids and even adults that love to play anything from adventure, role playing, action, stratedgy, racing, even learning games for kids so they can get better grades at school,,the whole family can and will have hours of fun and enjoyment with… Read more
this product. love the fact is has a hard drive in many sizes. and can also play d blu ray dvds. cannot play the older playstation 1 games.
Good – Replace all you different units and have the PS3 and a good amp. Done! Clean and the PS3 has everything you need. Easy to stream off your PC too! Seriously good machine. We use it as our single unit for entertainment. Bluray/DVD, music, videos, photos and tv. Games are excellent Swapped out the std hard drive with a whooping one! (easy to… Read more
do) The only reason i can't give 5 stars is play tv.
We use play tv all the time and it has a slick interface, records well, program guide is the best I've seen.
Downside is that it crashes the PS3 now and again and that take the shine off.
Good – We had our PS3 for 13 months the first time when it broke. We did everything to keep it from overheating but one summers day my hubby turned it on for 20 min to play Fallout 3 and it turned off. Never turned on again, after calling sony and having to pay $315 because it was just out of warranty we shipped it off. 1 month later we recieved a text… Read more
saying a refurbished console has been posted. 2 weeks and many phonecalls later no console, the company finally admitted they had lost the console and sent us ANOTHER refurbished console out.
It has been 6 months since the ordeal and the console works fine, a few problems with freezing when trying to load but its given hubby and I hours of entertainment, great games and a DVD player so overall they are good things. Althought with the prices the way they are at the moment if it broke again id buy a new one. good graphics, blu-ray and dvd compatible, HDMI cable connection price,
Awesome! – Sony PS3 has everything you could want & more - Blu Ray player, gaming & internet TV, Music & videos. Gaming & graphics are awesome. Sony Video chanels & Music are outstanding. Built in wifi makes it quick & easy for online gaming, connecting to home network to access your PC & Sony Internet TV. Good old reliable Sony means I have never had a single problem with it. Built in wifi, Sony internet TV, Blu Ray player
The Best Central Media Hub – I mainly purchased the PS3 because a large majority of my friends are in were in the PS2 and now PS3 circles for the likes of games and online play. I have since enjoyed the flexibility of streaming content from my PS3 using free 3rd party Media Server software, Blu-ray and DVD movies. There isn't much the PS3 cant play for the likes of video… Read more · 1
files. I own about 15 games on the PS3 at the moment and games were always going to be a strong point - great graphics and sound with HDMI and now multiple audio outputs meaning you can go with audio coming from your TV with HDMI and also use the analogue stereo out with additional speakers if you wish. The Playstation Network for downloadable content is free as well as all your connectivity for playing games online with your friends. The built in Internet browser is slow and clunky, this as not been improved since release. Upgradable hard disk drive allows you to do this with your own 2.5" drive without voiding your warranty. I purchased and extended warranty with my PS3 and it came in good use when the power supply died and Sony repaired it and the extended warranty company paid for the repairs. Haven't had a problem since. A few friends of mine have the newer PS3 slim unit and I have found this unit to be even more energy efficient than the original. Flexibility of streaming from media servers & Playstation Network is Free. Built in Web Browser - Very Slow and clunky.
OK – I sent away to Sony after purchasing a Bravia TV to get this, and to be fair I never really got it to play games with, (much prefer playing my mates wii so maybe that's why i don't like their style of games). I mainly wanted it for its blu ray compatibility, but they don't even play all blu ray disks!! I'm sure if i was interested in doing so, i… Read more
could find a lot of cool nifty features but so far I'm not really all that impressed, looks dirty after a day of dust, doesn't completely replace my DVD player and cant even play my 'Extras' Box set =). Sorry sony, AVERAGE It plays blu-ray discs, looks pretty nice.. It can be connected to the internet, wireless controllers, can stand it up or lay it flat. The eject buttons pretty fancy too! This system seems impressive but the only game Ive bought for it was Buzz.. (for its multi player entertainment value) Ive looked at what seems like all the games available, and there all average! (also gets hot quick and black shows up dust) Doesn't play oversees DVD's and some blu-ray discs don't even work with it!
OK – I bought a ps3 back when they were $600. Now all the sudden they come out with new thinner and smaller ones for $300 and there better. Ive tried selling mine used and really all your going to get for them now uses is $150, not even worth it. My opinion go xbox. Good graphics, free online web browser on it is horrible, freezes a lot, huge price drop
Terrible – We have Never used it as a Blue Ray DVD Player... kids use it for gaming and USB Movies. But let me tell you...I would NEVER ever want to buy another Sony console ever.... Xbox sh..s over PS3,and the reliability side. Paid $988 AUD for Xmas 2008.... it froze up 2 days after Xmas and kids couldn't play it.... had to send it off to Sony.... waited… Read more
7 weeks to get it back....... then it s..t itself 5 weeks ago Disc Stuck in drive... again just before Xmas.... just out of warranty... put into my local shop for repair only taking 3 days for repair, costing $100.... no warranty on work....worked for a little while.... is now broken again.......Disc stuck again. I think I would get more enjoyment and pleasure with setting the console alight. That's another reason for concern for the console..... if left on over night it has been known here in Australia , set two houses alight, and consumers need to be aware. Don't people relise SONY is taking us for one huge EXPENSIVE RIDE. Do NOT buy a Sony PS3. Nothing.... More of a headache.... then an enjoyment....Nothing to like about it at all. Everything.... freezes all the time with disc stuck. Heats Up too quickly.... noisey.....It's a CRAP machine.
Terrible – I recieved a PS3 for free with my Sony TV and I wasn't overly impressed. The graphics are attractive but game play suffers when the controller is difficult and annoying to use. Game crashes also take away from the experience. It plays blu-rays, but if I was after this feature, I would be better off buying a player soley dedicated to such a thing.… Read more
Good graphics, God of War franchise exlusivity. Wireless and rechargable controllers. Nice, sleek and overall atractive interface. Can play blu-rays, but I only own DVD's anyway. Has broken down frequently. I have experienced multiple game crashes that ruin the experience provided by good graphics. It doesn't play as many media formats as I would've expected from it. Not backwards compatible with Play-station 2 games, which I would've liked. The major issue is with the controller itself- it feels too light with no batteries in it, the triggers feel like buttons and the joysticks' layout makes them difficult to use. A layout similar to XBOX 360 would've been preferable. Not as many games availble as competitors.
fragile rubbish – very user unfriendly , every setting has to be painstakingly tweaked manually ...{sound,video, everything}. even getting the ps3 to recognize and use a hdmi cable can be a frustrating chore. on top of this it is way overpriced in australia , and worst of all it is extremely fragile. one little knock will result in the dreaded yellow light of… Read more

avoid!! the control system is still the best even though they dropped the ball on dualshock etc early in the piece. expensive and oh so FRAGILE!!!!
Brilliant – I have had the 40GB PS3 for a few years now. Still going strong. As fast as when I first turned it on. Only issue: the fan is a bit noisier than I'd like. Blu-ray playback, stunning graphics, strong OS
Sony haven't done this machine justice – Sony haven't sold the PS3 properly. Sure it plays games, but we have only 3 boxes under the TV. PS3, Foxtel and the receiver (amp). The PS3 plays CDs, MP3s, videos, DVDs, Blu-Ray movies and also streams movies and music off our computer and network hard drive. Easily. We also use it as a second home for all of our photos and home videos of the… Read more
kids, by plugging in the camera via USB to the front of the PS3 and using the simple system to copy the photos across. Whenever the grandparents come to visit we can run through a slide show on the TV.
CDs you only have to stick in the PS3 once, then they get copied onto it forever. No problems with space, if you run out, Sony provide instructions on how to put a bigger one in. It takes about 5 minutes.
Why Sony sell this as primarly a gaming machine I do not understand. Plenty of people at work have heard me talk about what we use if for and bought one themselves. It replaces a DVD player, Blu-Ray player & CD player, plays photos, games and music. Needs an adapter to use with a Logitec universal remote as the PS3 uses Bluetooth.
This is perfect! I cant Live without it – I love my playstation 3, I own 4 of them, it does everything, well almost, I stream divx & avi files to it, although it wont play MKV files, the games are brilliant, the blu ray superb, the accessories like the remote are really good, also the play TV I have setup and that is also a great cheap enhancement to your media centre. I play mp3 and wma… Read more
files and easily setup playlists. Overall this is a very modifiable piece of kit. I always put larger hard drives in my playstations, they take standard 2.5" laptop drives and are easily changed & firmware easily installed. it is one of the few modifications that is approved by Sony, who hate the modding community, or so it seems. There are currently jailbreaks available, but too much of a pain to maintain and keep current. Cheap, Flexible, Good User Interface, Versatile, does everything well does not play MKV and some other popular formats, constantly have to update, gets hot
The Best On the Market – Sony has done a great job in making a Affordable yet Technologically Advanced Gaming system. I have been using the PS3 for 4 years now. With no outstanding issues or bugs. The Online service is one of the best, with its free, fast gaming with local and worldwide gaming. Great Online Support, Next Gen Gaming Technology, Very Easy to Use, and Family… Read more
Friendly You May end up Buying Additional Hardware that does not come with the PS3 itself (HDMI),(controllers)
It does nearly everything – The ps3 is stylish and an all-round entertainment unit. Its a blu-ray and dvd player, it plays music & photos off the usb or you can copy it to its internal HDD. You can browse the internet, connect to its store and buy games or movies. It has a free music video program database where you can type the name of the song you like and it will play… Read more
the video clip, not all the artists and their music are on there but i will say you will at least get 20% of an artists music in most cases. You can connect your computer to it via a router and use ps3 media server to stream movies or music from your PC. I have connected my ps3 to my surround sound system via optical fibre cable. Theres some great games too that are specific to ps3 like uncharted 1&2 and soon 3. Other than that its not backward compatible with ps2 games which is annoying and its not region free when it comes to playing blu rays which is really annoying if you want to buy cheap blu rays from o/s. The games are region free though which is good. Its also free to connect online, theres no subscription fees like the xbox. Also your friends who have ps3 all show up on the network and you can talk or type to them. music software, bluray player, stylish. not backwards compatible with ps2. NO usb ports at the back only at the front.
Excellent – I have the 120gb slimline, which is perfect for my needs. I researched the console significantly before purchasing. It was a close call between the ps3 and 360. However, for the price the ps3 ends up cheaper. The ps3 works out much cheaper as wifi is built in, there is a blu-ray player and there is no cost to play games online. I have had the… Read more
console for over a year and has been very reliable. The exclusive games are also really good. In summary if cost, reliability, and blu-ray are considerations then you can't look past the playstation 3. The controller is very comfortable to use and light. It doesn't take batteries which is also handy. The console itself is well designed too. There is no battery pack like those found with the competition. Graphics are excellent, on par if not better than the xbox 360, although this does depend on the game. The blu-ray player is excellent. I also enjoy watching abc programs which are available to stream. There is also heaps of online content such as movie rentals and game downloads. I find that it does take a little longer than the xbox to load games.
Good – In my opinion, best gaming console on the market so far. If you want to just own one, PS3 would be the way to go although it would be the more expensive choice than its competitors such as the Xbox 360. There are huge range of games and more ones that you can't get for Xbox 360. I pre-ordered the original PS3 console 3-4 years ago and it gave no… Read more
trouble until the Blu-Ray disc player started failing. The replacement cost was so expensive that I decided to simply buy a new one. I also owned Xbox 360 for the same time which never gave hardware trouble and still works fine but that may be because I just don't use Xbox 360 to play games. PS3 in terms of its overall appeal as a game console is the best in every department. It makes lesser noise than Xbox 360 (too much disc and fan noise) displays slightly better, enables Blu-Ray movie viewing and joysticks are much more user-friendly than those of competing brands. Parts are incredibly expensive to replace especially the Blu Ray discs. Once the warranty expires and it breaks down, you'd be better off getting a new one. Parts such as joystix are expensive and doesn't link up with Microsoft based PCs like Xbox 360 does, a feature most people wouldn't care much for.The initial option screen is a little difficult to figure out and it's a bit of maze trying to figure out how to update, log on to internet etc at the very start.
Excellent – The PS3 has the most amazing graphics and smooth game play. It has the addition of the Play TV so you can record live TV onto the hard drive. This means you do not need a TIVO or similar product, as the PS3 does both. Overall it is a great console with very few faults. The PS3 is the full package. It has the best quality high definition graphics… Read more
compared to other consoles, lots of game variety and some great add ons. This product is not backward compatible with most PS2 or earlier games, which is unfortunate as it means you have to start fresh when you upgrade.
Good – I think it's a brilliant machine, and much more affordable now than when they first came out (plus with a massive hard drive and slim design). It can also double as both a media player and a PVR (the latter only if you purchase the Play TV add-on). In my opinion it still beats all the other consoles out there, albeit the most expensive. I love my… Read more
PS3. We have had ours for 3+ years now and have been so impressed with it. The games are of fantastic quality with a good range, although they are pricey when first released. The fact that it can play blu-ray is a massive bonus. It has wi-fi so if attached to the internet you can download firmware updates which introduces new features (such as div-x playback), and you can also stream media from another device such as PC or laptop also connected to the network. You can also download game demos, patches or full games on Playstation network. My version only has a 40GB HDD which is full.
Excellent – I purchased this machine when the Slim was first release and it came with a HDMI cable which was a nice added bonus. I never thought it would be able to replace my XBox 360 but it did just that. While the PS3 had basically no games at launch they've since collected an impressive library of AAA titles. Online play is decent but can kick you off.… Read more
Still very much worth purchasing though. Touch sensitive buttons, customisable theme, built-in blu-ray player, great selection of games, machine comes with remote charging cable, HD looks amazing, super quiet, multimedia features, built-in Wi-Fi. Not backwards compatible, the original PS3 was overpriced and overheated a bit. PS3 Slim is the way to go.
Excellent – I've had my Playstation 3 for about 6 months and I've not had a thing go wrong. There are too many cool features to list. The menu features allow for total customisation. It's so easy to use and figure out. All of the games and movies I play have beautiful definition and colour. Make sure you get the 320GB Playstation 3 though if you like to… Read more
record your favourite tv shows. So many cool features such as wireless controllers, built in blu-ray player, connects to the internet, records television programs with the play-tv box, 1080 HD playback for movies and games. The games are expensive.
Excellent – The playstation 3 offers great customisability as the harddrive can easily be upgraded and linux can be loaded on the ps3 fat. The wifi is convenient but the new playstation slim does not support wireless n, though that won't matter for a lot of people. The free online gaming is a plus side to its online gameplay.
