I think it’s because…whilst you can auto update your tv, Sony has some limitations on its APPS, especially in earlier models. Basically you have a limited number/variety of them.

This is happening to me as well. I think Sony doesn't support the ABC iview app anymore. No problem with youtube. Purchased in 2014.

I am having this problem too with ABC I view, I can watch SBS On Demand without a problem

I have the same problem, bought Sony Bravia in2014.

Yes it can be replaced , as same thing happened to my t.v and we got it replaced with new screen . I think by now you would have bought new one . Sorry for late answer as I saw your question today only.

@neerja @luis -- can you confirm if the screen was repaired DIY, if so where did you purchased the screen from, if done through 3rd party what was the cost (including the screen cost).

From memory, you can install apps from Sony's own app store, however choice is quite limited. Given that Sony has transitioned to the Android TV platform for its model as of 2015, and this model still runs on Sony's old proprietary O/S, don't expect there to be much support or updates for the apps that are there. Netflix and YouTube might still work ok.

Yes, you can definitely fit it with your KDL42W800B. It is available for 22" to 55" screen sized flat tvs.But in my opinion, it works fine up to a 32" screen size, due to weight.

I have the same problem, it happened 3 days ago, A little over 2 years and the screen just went black. Sony will just claim out of warranty and try to charge you for repairs. I'm going to fair trading, 2 years is an unreasonable lifespan for a premium brand TV. My old Tv is 12 years old and still works fine.

The tv repair guys said two "circuit boards had burnt out" and it would be cheaper to buy a new tv rather than fix it... Stating that Samsung and LG are better brands in this day and age. I'm thoroughly unimpressed as our Sony tv was hardly used during the first year. Do testing standards have much helpful advice?

The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. Try power resetting the TV and check if it resolves the issue. To power reset, turn off the TV and unplug the TV power cord from the electrical outlet. Let it remain without power for 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. If the TV is plugged into a power strip/surge protector, remove it from the power strip/surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. Turn ON the TV and check if it works as expected.

You can answer this yourself perhaps. What voltage is the set? In the USA they use various voltages. Some sets made these days automatically switch to suit. The next thing is what formats do they transmit TV in the USA. From what I have seen in technology, the standards are pretty much the same now, as the days of the Cold war are over and most TV's are made overseas, so standards have no need to be different due to overseas and local market competition. I would suggest you check these things at least. It may not be cost effective to freight your TV over, as costs are pretty high and it may pay to sell it and buy another in the USA that you know will suit for sure.

Thanks for the reply, and we were able to check the voltage and settings. It is dual voltage and the US transmits in a different format, but the set appears to be able to adjust. That was our biggest concern. Thanks again!

Yes, the system will definitely work in US. The only thing, you check input voltage before plug in and set your system voltage accordingly.

Yes. It is replaced by newer model KDL42W800c.
