End of an era – My vitasteam died last night. Sad to see it’s discontinued. I have been using my vitasteam since 2005, really regularly as in a few times a week, for 13 years straight. I’ll miss it! Best product ever. Hope I will find something similar because i use it rather a lot. Never expected to get this many years out of it.

Great steamer – I have recently purchased this steamer off someone updating their kitchen. I love my steamer. I love being able to set it and leave it and not have to worry about it till the bell goes off. Beats the conventional steaming methods cause I can cook much more in it and it doesn't heat up the whole kitchen which in my subtropical climate is a plus! I leave mine on the bench cause I use it everyday. quiet, steaming times accurate, doesn't heat up the place like the stove not sure about the BPA thing as a previous poster has said

Is there an issue with BPA – We recently purchased one of these steamers from our local hardware store. It's obviously a bit outdated but my husband wanted to support his local retailer and also thought that the cooking method would be good for our health. I was concerned about possible BPA leakage and wrote to Sunbeam to enquire about whether or not the plastic contained BPA. This was at least a couple of months ago and no reply to date. Cooks quickly I'm not sure if the plastic poses as a health risk.

Big and Messy! – I dont like this steamer. It is huge, and takes up too much room in the cupboard. I get the same results with other traditional steaming methods. Whay is there an appliance for everything. It is also time consuming messing about with the layers, let alone the time to wash the thing up which is highly involved. Plastic also not the best quality in my opinion. Does not feel right puting anything else except vegies in it.
