Sydney Toy Poodles

We purchased a 16-week toy poodle in late December 2025 for $3,700. Within the first couple of days, the puppy was extremely lethargic (literally slept all day), wouldn't eat and vomited multiple times, which concerned us given the age. We consulted our vet, who advised returning the puppy due to health concerns (suspected diaphragmatic hernia).

We returned the puppy within 3 days and were refunded 50% of the purchase price, in line with the breeder’s terms and conditions.

We should have realised when we purchased that Sydney Toy Poodle recommended to wait until the next vaccination to do a health check and not do it straight away. They said that we could save money on an unnecessary health checks. That was a red flag, but we thought they were acting in good faith. Lucky we followed our instinct and went to the vet. Waiting longer would have made it impossible to even return the unhealthy dog, and voided the 50% money back. It didn't solve the trauma of having to return a puppy dog, though.

We were disappointed with the outcome given the health concerns and the recommendation that this puppy was suitable for a young family.

The puppy was 16 weeks old, which made us wonder if it had been previously returned by other owners with the concerns.

We hope future buyers are fully aware of our experience and conduct immediate vet checks. Future buyers, be careful. I recommend choosing another breeder.
