Gave top-level care to our greyhound – Recommended for high quality care. Our suddenly sick greyhound girl spent a week at SVES, and we can't thank the whole team there enough for all their care. She made it home and is doing great, and now we're fully aware of various conditions to watch out for. Obviously emergency care isn't cheap, and we wish we had insurance, but they did keep us fully informed and aware of it all. Our thanks to the team. Show details

Avoid at all costs!! Seek other emergency centres – Used this ‘specialist’ vet service in April 2023 as my cat had a urinary blockage and had to have emergency care and a urinary catheter inserted. price stated at the time was between $1600-1800 depending on care needs.. After leaving our boy there approx 1.5 hrs later the vet called to say that despite ‘every’ vet in the building trying to insert… Read more

the catheter, it wasn’t possible snd the only option was an emergency surgery - perineal urethrostomy costing around 6-8K or we had to put our beloved pet to sleep. The worst part was that it 10pm at night and I could not decide on such an expensive treatment before consulting our insurance company.. I elected to have his bladder drained overnight and consult our insurer in the morning.. Called our regular vet the next day and they advised to bring our cat to them.. long story short / they inserted the catheter ( and stated - they had NEVER had a case where they hadn’t been able to insert a catheter!. ) . When I called SVES the next day the price for the emergency surgery had increased to between 10-12K!! When I asked why they stated I had been mis quoted the previous night!! When I objected and said I was taking my cat to my regular vet, they then added back the costs they had waivered the night before ( Catheter costs as they had not been able to insert ) and when I interjected the very rude accounts manager stated they would also add on costs they had not yet charged.. A $400 ultrasound had been added to the bill AFTER I left and without my consent!!

Avoid this place at all costs..!! Money hungry and for a specialist centre it’s very odd that not a single vet had been able to insert a catheter!

Terrible. Unfair charges – This place always take advantage of desperate owners, when their dogs are in a very vulnerable moment. I highly recommend look for other options where the main drive is to take as much money as possible from you. Show details

Narcissist on high horses – The attitude of staff varies Front of house receptionist are great but they don’t seem to last long there ! Management gives you a sense that you are there for their outlet of build up of negative energy. They get on their high horse hold your animal ransom when it’s after hours Don’t ever go there after hours just go to SYD uni after hours if… Read more

you have to. With this clinic the management and the Bad tempered vets humiliates you when you are under distress You can’t ask any educated questions You can’t have a preference or be provided a choice to any alternative method of treatment. They charge you treatments that you know could not have been administered Charging oral NSAIDS where the animal isn’t eating at all ! These meds has to be administered with food ! They already charged pain management via fluid treatment with anti inflammatory! Quoting procedures that did not occur but charging the full quotation on the highest scale ! These operators should be appearing in front of the fair trading tribunal to explain !

When you do a honest review they will try and con you to take it down or remove it Stick to your guns ! They will humiliate you again if you give them a second chance Yes they make you wait a long time even you pet is so sick Emergency my …… that’s all I can say. Can’t wait for the new vet hospital to open down the road in Rosebery Most traumatic experience I have ever had with this lot gives you a sense of phobia when you next want help from vets Bad name for the industry In terms with my ailing pet of a senior age that they used as a hold to humiliate you The 1 star is for the receptionist and the nurses !

More interested in making money than helping animals – Took my kitten in who’d been sick for days and was progressively getting worse. They took him out back examined him gave me a quote for the service to help him, I being between pays could not afford it they sent me away only for my cat to be knocking on deaths door the next day when I spotted a tick on him and whisked him away to a vet clinic… Read more

closer to home who immediately removed the paralysis tick and allowed me to pay off my bill over time. This is how a real veterinarian would treat animals not these money hungry pieces of crap from sydney vet emergency.

Shocking Traumatic Worst Experience ever – My experience with SVH was shocking and frightening. My dog had gastro. 7 hours of observation before treatment. Then the treatment was a drug, I've since found out was Buphermorphine used for severe pain/ post operative surgery My dog went into a coma like state for 48 hrs. I had to go to another vet, as he was dehydrating by this stage and… Read more

deteriorating.. They showed no empathy and were very unprofessional..I was told he would be sleepy for approx 8 hours not comatosed like he was 48hrs.. When I rang with my concern I was told my dogs probably HIGH. Not funny!! Vets have a duty of care and the care my dog got was shocking and could have been disastrous if I didn't get help from another Veterinary Practice.

Exemplary Service – My mum took our beloved Gigi to the clinic as she had vomited numerous times the day before and was not eating or drinking. They were seen immediately and upon examination consult were told that since Gigi was in good spirits she could go home to be observed. They also waived any fees. We are so grateful that you were so forthright and now our… Read more

Gigi is at home with a smile. She has had some water and mum is preparing her a meal. Thank you to your wonderful team ❤️

Unqualified and zero care for animals – My dog starting coughing at midnight like something was stuck in his throat, we had never seen that kind of behaviour before and it is our first dog, we were worried so decided to take him to our usual vet in the morning at 8 am when they open, but at almost 4:30 am he started gagging like he is choking very hard and started throwing up. We didn’t… Read more

want to take any risk so took him to the nearest 24/7 vet which sadly happened to be sydney veterinary emergency and specialist.

We took a uber in our pajamas trying to get him into treatment asap. On arrival the girl at the counter spend 5 mins on the computer and didn’t even show any concern to our dog who looked like he was making choking noises. She took him in and we were later called in. We were shocked to hear the vet’s response. She said the dog was moving too much so we couldn’t open his mouth and they don’t know what is wrong with him. What do they practice then? Aren’t they suppose to know the technique to calm the dog to be able to see inside his mouth. The whole point of us taking him to the vet in the middle of darkness was because so we could get some peace of mind on whats wrong with our dog. She said if we are ready to pay $2000 they can sedate him and check. How can they just say “we don’t know what it is , here’s your bill for $240. “They gave us back our dog and he was still making those horrible painful noises and i asked the girl, that sounds like he has something stuck right? I didnt want to leave the vet the same way i cane in, with the same worry. She doesn’t even look at me, busy printing the receipt And just goes ‘mmmhmmm’ . We paid $300 including the injection for nausea which he didn’t even have.

And the funny thing is as soon as it was 8 am we took our dog to our regular vet, who are not even specialist and they were able to tell right away that our dog had kennel cough and gave advice to keep him indoors with no exercise and also gave him medicine for 10 days and told us not to worry. That was all we wanted. A little advice and medicine to heal our dog. And they only charge $70. Money was never an issue, we wanted our baby to be ok but to not even be able to diagnosis kennel cough which is apparently common illness when you see one, how unqualified does one have to be. Forget specialist, they shouldn’t be even calling themselves vet. It felt like we just asked a bystander what’s wrong with our dog and he went ‘i dont know but now you have to pay me $300 for asking that question.” What would have happened if we had agreed to pay $2000 by giving into desperation. They would have just said we couldn’t see anything, sorry, bye now. Shame on them for just being money hungry unprofessional, unqualified existence for a vet.

I wish we’d had the same experience as the last reviewer – We took our dog in for a problem on Sunday. After waiting for 75 mins and watching 5 others come and go as we waited I decided to take my dog elsewhere. Miraculously as I was in the carpark a vet was suddenly available. ‘It’s always busy on a Sunday’, she said. A stupid response in any situation - if it’s always busy on Sunday, address it. I’m a service sensitive shopper, not a price sensitive one.  Show details

Care and compassion – We recently had to take our dog in to the SVES for attention due to diarrhea and vomiting. She had stopped eating and was very lethargic. We were seen promptly, and our dog had to stay in overnight for hydration. The vet was compassionate even though they probably see this type of problem frequently. To us it was not a normal experience, and the… Read more

vet did not treat it as such. She understood our concern. Upon discharge the vet explained to us what all the tests were for, and explained the results. The day following our dog's discharge from the hospital we received another phone call to ensure that our dog was recovering satisfactorily. We were given additional advice about what to feed her during her recovery. We found this post-discharge attention very reassuring and only reinforced our opinion that, at no stage, were we just a number or statistic. Excellent service and follow-up.

Excellent care – My little dog Russell died very unexpectedly at SVES on 19 May . He had only been a patient at the hospital for 48 hrs. The care he received was amazing and I was kept informed of all procedures and tests every step of the way. Vet Patrick and Nurse Laura were so caring and empathic when he died and allowed me to spend as much time as I needed… Read more

with him despite the COvid 19 restrictions . Thank you to the incredible team of vets and nurses at SVES for doing everything possible for little Russell .

Thieve$ – This is a business where treatment for your pet costs in the thousands. They require a deposit of almost $1000 before the vet consultation to cover any potential issues they may encounter and they give a loose agreement that they will refund the difference. That does not happen and the bill increases to incredulous levels. I strongly urge you to consider all other treatment options before you take your pet here. Show details

So kind at a desperate moment – Helped save our cat, who'd never had a day sick, then suddenly has to be rushed and have his lungs drained, and my baby has a cancer right next to his heart. The care and kindness we all got was out of this world.
