⚠️ WARNING: EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE: DO NOT TRUST. FAULTY PRODUCT, MISLEADING INFORMATION, LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY I suffer from hair thinning and have been wearing a topper for years alongside my biological hair. My previous system, which I had purchased from another company, had become worn out. Although I was very happy with that… Read more

company, the owner unfortunately decided to close the business due to health issues. This left me in urgent need of a replacement, so I began searching for a new provider, and that’s how I came across Tammy Lobato.

After the initial consultation, I placed my order and made the payment to Tammy in January 2025 (Melbourne). I clearly explained the urgency of my situation, as my current system was no longer wearable. To reassure me — and to make the sale — Tammy confidently promised that I would receive the new piece within three months.

So yes, despite that assurance, the topper was not ready for six months later.

But when the fitting day came (Brisbane), I discovered that was the least of my concerns.

When the topper was fitted, I literally gasped. The product was NOTHING like what had been promised during our consultation (photos speak for themselves).

Here’s what I was promised and what I got: 1. The breathability and comfort were her top sales points. She assured me her toppers were incredibly light and completely breathable. In fact, five minutes after the fitting, I was feeling an oppressive heat. Later, I had an itchy scalp. When the piece was removed, it was clearly obvious that no part of my scalp had been able to breathe at all, as it was taped solidly on from side to side to the edge of my scalp.

2. She had repeatedly assured me it would be custom-made to my measurements. In reality, NO measurements were taken of my head. She merely ran a tape superficially from the back of my neck to my forehead. I was surprised by this minimal effort, but at the time I assumed — given her claimed expertise — that she had her own method. The result says it all: the piece was oversized, bulky, and appeared on my head like an upturned pot, completely unnatural.

3. She promised “no one will ever know you’re wearing a hair system.”From the first day, my new physio noticed it was a wig/topper, something I never experienced in 2.5 years with my previous system. The knots were dark, thick, and very visible, creating an artificial look.

4. My natural hair is curly. When I placed the order, I had specifically asked for a curly topper so that it would not look like a stark contrast to my natural hair, but instead would blend in completely. This was not just said verbally — it is very clearly stated on the official invoice. A fully custom made piece made to my specific needs would have been delivered curly in the first instance. The topper I received was completely straight. It was not possible to style it in a way that would look natural because my hair is curly. The hair was also overly shiny; it looked cheap and fake.

5. Density was very low — it was visibly sparse on the crown, like it had already shed even though it was new. The hairs fell into my face constantly, and the unit could not be worn without a clip to hold it on.

6.She claimed the tape would last 3 weeks, minimum. In reality, the front hairline had started to lift after 24 hours. I had previously worn another system for over 2.5 years with the same style of tape. Never once did it start lifting or feel bulky.

7. As noted earlier, it was promised to be a “three month rush order,” but it took six months to be delivered. For six months, the business did not once contact me to explain, or even apologise. When I messaged her in the fourth month asking how it was progressing, Tammy didn’t bother to reply. Not a word. No apology, no explanation, nothing that a professional would consider a courtesy. Tammy was chatty and extremely persistent in her text messages and contact with me before I bought, wanting to build rapport and make me feel assured. But after the money was exchanged, that completely stopped. The difference in her approach before and after the sale was night and day — and deeply disappointing.

Let me explain her sales method in brief: Tammy acts warm, compassionate, and deeply empathetic — but only until the sale is made. During the first consultation, she’ll happily spend two hours talking about your personal life: your hair loss journey, your past struggles, the fact that you’re a single mom, even your child with autism. She presents herself as someone who understands your pain deeply, especially as someone who claims to suffer from hair loss herself. She delivers this performance with such emotional intensity, nearly in tears, that you genuinely believe she cares. You feel safe. You feel heard.

But later, as I (and many others) learned the hard way, it was all an act. Every word, every hug, every look of sympathy: scripted and rehearsed.

By the time you realize it, it’s already too late. Once she has your money, she is gone.

When I sent her an email to explain that the topper was causing irritation and itching, she never once asked, “Please come in and let us remove it straight away if it’s causing discomfort.”

Imagine your scalp burning and itching uncontrollably, knowing that if left unresolved, it could even lead to a skin infection —and the very person who sold you the product disappears. I was left entirely alone to find a hairdresser to remove the piece, while Tammy — who once texted me constantly before the sale — wouldn’t even lift a finger after it. What kind of person shows zero compassion when a customer is in distress?

She didn’t suggest removal, didn’t offer support, didn’t even bother to call and ask, “Are you okay?” To me, that’s not just unprofessional , it’s inhumane.

Instead of offering any real help or even a basic welfare check, Tammy had one of her staff members call me, not to assist, but simply to repeat what she had clearly coached her to say: “We don’t offer refunds. Change of mind is not accepted.” This is gaslighting, pure and simple.

As soon as I left the fitting, I phoned my partner and cried the whole way home. My response was immediate; this was not a “change of mind” after the event.

To be blunt: I had waited months for this to arrive, anyone with hair thinning/loss issues knows how vital a topper can be for a woman’s confidence and mental well-being. This was not a casual purchase. It was something I needed urgently and had to go to extreme lengths to get. I was hopeful.

The minute the piece was fitted, I was vocal to both staff in the room about how dissatisfied I was. I was upset, on the verge of tears, trying to be polite, but internally I was distraught. The hairs were falling into my face, the knots were thick and visible, the fit was unnatural, and the whole thing was wrong. Yet, despite this, Tammy emailed me later saying I left happy and simply “changed my mind.” To call this cruelty would be an understatement, it is calculated deceit.

This entire episode has many more disturbing details I cannot share here due to a lack of space. But I will be sharing everything — from the first messages right through to the final emails — on a dedicated website I am now creating. Everything will be shared and nothing left open to manipulation. The truth will be out there for all to see.

I have never, ever in my life met a person more manipulative, so cold, or unprofessional in this industry.

Now I am left with zero hair system and zero funds to fix it. I showed extreme goodwill in the hope that she might do the right thing and display a modicum of human decency and compassion, despite having done nothing to deserve it. But she chose to completely ignore me.

I lost all confidence in her word and politely asked that I be sent any offer to resolve the issue in writing via email. I never received a response.

In other words, she had ZERO interest in resolving it. Her attitude is: “Sold it to you , now it’s your problem.” The topper I received would be worth a maximum of a few hundred dollars. You can get Temu toppers of similar poor quality for $100 – $200. But I paid $6,000.

Recently, after receiving 1-star review after review, the Tammy Lobato Prahran branch was suddenly listed as “Permanently Closed.”

Want to know what kind of person she really is? Search “Tammy Lobato Prahran” to read the reviews. Closing the branch, so you think you can close the door on responsibility? Think again, Tammy.

I have already lodged a complaint with the Queensland Office of Fair Trading. I am now waiting for the OFT outcome and am in the process of lodging my applications with both VCAT and QCAT. I will even reach out to A Current Affair, and if all goes as planned, you’ll soon see this story on television.

Scammers - stay away – Tammy ripped me off blind. She sold me a cheap [Content Removed] Chinese system for $1,200- and it was all sell sell sell until there was a problem. I brushed it once in the 3rd week and these huge chunks came out of it. At no stage did anyone warn me I could not brush it normally. Tammy did not care AT ALL and has zero intention of doing the right thing.
