 AI reviews summary

The Whisky Club receives high praise for providing access to exclusive, world-class whiskies that are often unavailable through traditional retail channels. Members value the educational aspect of the service, specifically the detailed tasting notes and live virtual sessions with master distillers. While the sentiment is overwhelmingly positive regarding quality and variety, a small number of users noted that the high-ABV releases can occasionally be overpowering or lack the mouthfeel of previous standout editions.

Pros
  • Exclusive Access: Members highly value the ability to purchase distillery exclusives, limited editions, and rare 40-year-old bottles that are not found in standard liquor stores.
  • Flexible Membership: The "no pressure" model is frequently commended, allowing users to easily opt out of monthly selections or "double up" on favourites without hidden fees.
  • Educational Content: The inclusion of expert tasting notes, background stories on distilleries, and interactive live streams significantly enhances the drinking experience for both novices and connoisseurs.
  • Quality Curation: The club is praised for its consistent ability to source high-quality drams from diverse regions including Scotland, Ireland, Australia, and Japan.
Cons
  • Subjective Value of Packaging: While many enjoy the "classy" and "magnificent" presentation, some members feel the packaging is over the top and may unnecessarily contribute to the overall cost.
  • Interface Friction: There are reports that the process to "double up" on an order can be cumbersome, requiring users to navigate away from emails and into a separate app.
  • Shipping Issues: Recurring complaints mention couriers leaving expensive bottles in unsafe locations without signatures and occasional damage to display boxes during transit.
  • Sweetness Bias: Some long-term members have noted a recurring bias towards sweeter, sherry-cask finishes and have expressed a desire for more peated or traditional malt varieties.
Verdict

The Whisky Club is an exceptional service for enthusiasts looking to broaden their palate through expertly curated, exclusive releases and high-quality educational content. It offers a transparent, flexible subscription model that provides genuine value for money, though users should be mindful of occasional shipping inconsistencies in certain regions.

Absolutely love The Whisky Club. Great variety, well‑curated bottles, and it’s introduced me to whiskies I’d never have tried otherwise. Easy ordering, fast delivery, and consistently excellent quality. A must for any whisky fan. The recent offering from The Lakes is liquid gold.

This has to be my favourite Australian whisky so far. I had tried the Original when we visited Bicheno in February abd was hooked. So pleased that the rusted cask came available at the whisky club. The saltiness and toffee like flavour is superb. Will definitely be ordering more whisky from this distillery.

"Fruity", "Creamy" and "Oaky"? Nah nah more like SPICY, BUTTERY and sublimely OILY! My tingling tantalized taste buds feel more spoilt than the Olsen twins and pampered like the Kardashians at their own Disney premier! I took trip to taste heaven with a side trip to paradise. To think time has been kind to this geriatric trio is an understatement. Grazie Mille Seamus, Bertie and the brilliant team at TWC!

I submit this review in memory of my good mate Martin, 1958 - 2023. Glenmorangie was his favourite whiskey. Rich caramel colour Warm sweet bouquet Taste of honey, lingering fruits, tropical, mildly burnt toffee aftertaste that filters across the palate. Not to be wasted on spirit and mixture drinkers.

I haven't had any experience with this distillery before. I found easy to sip, no bold flavours but everything blended together for a dram that I had several before the night was done. Show details

Coming up on my one year anniversary with the Whisky Club. It's a great way to try whiskys you would never have a chance too. Share a dram with friends or family or just by yourself. Or just collect to have a very special collection

I haven’t been with the Whiskey Club for very long but so far it has been a great experience and very good value for money. I would truely recommend it for any whiskey lover. I can’t seem to get through a whole bottle a month so I love that I can opt out when I need to to give myself more time to enjoy the bottles I have on hand.

Easy, smooth drinking, I have a dram before bed to relax

Follow-up  · D#mn, it's all gone, I can't wait until June's bottle. Loch Lomond was a very enjoyable, as far as with food, I didn't want to spoil the taste in my mouth with food :) the aftertaste lingered long enough until I poured another dram, the aroma alone was almost enough to intoxicate me ... Not !!!

Super drop of whisky, should have purchased a double up.

Follow-up  · The whisky was not a gift but for personal use. What makes it super is not only the initial flavour but the after taste. The occasion was the daily consumption for total enjoyment.

I’m giving it a 5 star in anticipation. I’ve been saving all my whiskies from you for my daughter’s wedding. Also to stuff things up my arthritis medication is stopping me drinking alcohol . Hopefully not for long. Hence why I put my subscription on ice on and off. Hope you understand.

Follow-up  · As mentioned I have been saving my whisky recently for my daughter’s wedding which is in 2027. Arthritis is the main reason I haven’t touched whisky in a while. I hope that doesn’t stop me drinking my favourite Lagavulin again, I’m sure it won’t. Also partial to Dunvilles

The Whisky Club really is something special. The chance to grab a 40 year old whisky at a price that feels remotely reasonable is pretty mind blowing. Experiences like this are why I stay subscribed. That said, while the Girvan 40 Year Old was undeniably good, it did not quite reach the heights I had built up in my head. That is probably on me. I… Read more

tend to lean heavily toward sherry and port cask finishes, and The Whisky Club has been absolutely spoiling us in that department lately. I think I was hoping this would be one of those once in a lifetime, unforgettable pours.

I was lucky enough to pick up two out of the three releases, the “Fruity” and the “Oaky" bottles. Both leaned strongly into citrus, sea spray, seaweed, and a salty, slightly punchy alcohol presence. Classic ex-bourbon barrel territory, really. What I personally missed was that buttery, caramel, banana pudding sweetness that I gravitate toward. Instead, these offered more citrus zest, coastal salinity, and a touch of umami character. Of the two, the “Oaky” expression was easily my favourite. I suspected that might be the case going in, and it delivered a bit more depth and structure for my palate. Still, I think a part of me was quietly hoping that 40 years in the cask would have produced something a little more unexpected or transformative. To be clear, both bottles are very drinkable and genuinely unique within my collection. There is something undeniably special about pouring a dram that has been resting for four decades. Were they worth the price? For the experience alone, absolutely. Would I buy them again? Probably not. At even half this price point there are some truly outstanding whiskies available (even from the whisky club), even if they do not carry that impressive age statement.

The results can be varied with Whisky Club releases. I can only imagine the difficulties that can exist between negotiation, procurement, and distribution to a large cohort trying to get consistency. The latest offering, the 2012 Bushmills, is a… Read more

simple and middling expression. Disappointing given it is the christmas release. The initial nose is malt heavy with some subtle other notes reminiscent of Christmas spices, with a dusty note as well. After necking the bottle and giving some time to breath, re-engaging with the liquid there a more pronounced marmalade note, but some very bright alcohol notes too.

Initial palate had marmalade, sweetness as a general flavour, like hard candy without other flavours, medium length finish. Revisiting with a dram after air for a week yielded similar notes as were there in the original. Maybe a bit more spice, definitely more white pepper.

I wish it was more. If you like light cask influence and a spicy, malt forward, drop, this is going to hit well. If you wanted more cask influence to tickle the Christmas notes of classic bottles from previous releases (that are more than likely impossible to reproduce) then you will be left lacking. Easy enough to drink, just not great enough for me when Cut Hill Wall, MVD, Iniquity, and a ton of other local players are producing barrels of far superior flavours with little price difference.

Follow-up  · Follow up answers to questions: The packaging was ok. The cardboard that TWC packages their bottles in is usually sufficient. Occasionally there is somw cosmetic damage. The whiaky came in its own packaging inside TWC packaging but the bottle inside that had some minor label damage. Many of the other whisky clubs are similar, just not as many… Read more

I've been a member of The Whisky Club in Australia for a decade now - since December 2015 - and it's been fantastic! As a fan of single malt scotch whisky since the late 1970s (back when it was 'pure malt' scotch), the Club has given me the opportunity to try some lovely whiskies over the last 10 years. The attached photo is of the December 2025… Read more ·  1

offering, which I recently received but have not yet opened (and am very much looking forward to it!). I've never had an issue with payment, packaging or delivery from the Club. There's a new whisky every month:- I receive an email to remind me, and if I want it, I need do nothing more. If I don't want it - for whatever reason - I go into my account on-line and tick the appropriate "no" box. No pressure; no guilt; no obligation. I can double-up on a bottle (depending on the rarity of supply) if I want or choose another offer. I've introduced like-minded friends to the Club and been rewarded for my loyalty; joined in some exclusive video tastings; and had some on-line banter with Club officials (I'm looking at you Bertie!) and other members. It's been a rewarding experience, which I recommend to others.

I was a bit surprised to find the Lakes was an English distillery as it wasn’t recognisable from the Club advert. If it had been clear I would probably have opted out. I’m glad I didn’t. It is a most enjoyable dram Show details

An initial hit of pepper on the nose and then a nice warm malt aroma, on the palate straight up I get spice, then hints of stem ginger cookies with that maltiness from the nose coming through on the palate before a chocolate hit. But not milk or dark chocolate for me, I get more of a Caramac chocolate with hints of fudge and condensed milk, giving way to mild fruits something between white grape and pear. Show reply

I'm rusted on to Waubs now - rusted on to Waubs now. (sorry to repeat myself. The online review had a minimum of 10 words. The algorithm obviously hasn't read Nietzsche - “It is my ambition to say in ten sentences what others say in a whole book.” In my case 10 words. But I digress. Sorry for the long review.

Think it's very nice. Heck, I doubled up on this one. That said, it's been my third fav. That's how good the club's been doing in finding some real performers. The chocolate was quite subtle, perhaps understated. Still it's a great one, and given I've got two, I'm sure it'll grow on me.
