Car owners also suffer from hiring their car through Uber Carshare – I was renting a car on Uber Carshare, when one of the renters must have checked the water in the radiator and not put the radiator cap back on properly. The radiator cap blew off hitting the under bonnet causing a lot of water to escape. The renter also kept driving the car ignoring the overheating light causing the can to overheat and blowing a… Read more

Uber Carshare fraudsters – Uber CarShare is a fraudsters. They are running a scam in the name of damage. damage that's not there at all. Please see a video of fake scratches (that are dust marks, even that was not done by me). After providing enough evidences also they deducted the payment from my account and claimed they can deduct though damage is not proven. They also forced to accept the quotations from their vendors. Please see a video and pics attached. I will not use UberCar share again.

about to heading home and startup the car, it didn't work again. I was in the rural area where there was no network coverage so I couldn't make a phone call or use internet to ask for help.
Fortunately, there was a park ranger nearby to help using her phone. Called support again and they tried to troubleshoot the issue close to 1 hour and found out, I had to use the app in order for the car to be started. With no network coverage, my uber car share app logged me out so I had to use the ranger's mobile hotspot and that would allow me to login and startup the car. The whole situation was so stressful as I was in the middle of nowhere without network coverage.
Seeing how dodgy the system was, I decided to return the car 1 hour early. No apology received and got only $20 voucher to use the app as reimbursement. I spent around $75. lost 2.5 hours where I can't use the car.

This service works well for me – Ive been a member for over 2 years now and Ive found Uber carshare works really seemlessly 99% of the time. Having rented previously without encountering any lockbox-related problems, this incident stands out, especially considering this is a new card I'm renting from.
The key question here is why customers should bear the brunt of a seemingly flawed process. If the lockbox is not user-friendly and malfunctions, is it fair to place the blame squarely on the renters? It raises concerns about accountability and whether customers should be penalized for issues stemming from a potentially poorly designed system. If it's so hard to close properly, why can't it send a message to me and let me know that it's not closed?

Suspected Routing and Unauthorised use of Toll – I took the Uber from Sydney Airport to Pyrmont on a Friday around 8.00 am in August 2024. The driver used South Dowling Street and intended to go down to Cross City Tunnel. I stopped him and asked him to use Cleveland St then Abercrombie. The trip costed $67 which was higher than my usual taxi fares. The driver should have asked for agreement to use the tolled Tunnel or even the route. Show details

Given the challenges of finding a pet-friendly car, we initially booked one near our home in North Melbourne on July 22, only for it to be canceled on August 3. We then secured another car on August 10, planning to leave at 9:30 AM to reach Belgrave Station by 11:30 AM for our 12:30 PM departure—a critical 1.5-hour drive.
However, our excitement quickly turned to despair when we found ourselves unable to unlock the car. Despite diligently following the instructions and waiting for what felt like an eternity on the phone with your support team, the issue persisted. We were advised to contact the car’s owner, who informed us that the Bluetooth signal in the basement parking area was unreliable—an issue that was unfortunately predictable.
We spent nearly an hour desperately trying to resolve the situation, only to be told to cancel our booking and move to another car. When we arrived at the new location, we found the car in a different parking area, and by then, it was 11:10 AM. We were unable to reach Belgrave Station on time, causing us to miss our train.
This experience was not just inconvenient—it was heartbreaking. We missed out on a cherished experience we had been looking forward to for months, and we are deeply distressed by the impact on our plans. We request a full refund for our train tickets ($144.00), as the failure of your service caused us to miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
In contrast, we have had much better experiences with Car Next Door, which offered reliable and stable service. The simplicity of their old system, with a straightforward locker and password for access, seems far superior to the problematic system we encountered today.
We hope you understand the gravity of this situation and will address it with the urgency and seriousness it deserves.

During that period anything is possible and I would have responsible for everything until next person hire the car? what in the blue hell does that sound fair? My responsibility ends when I hand over the key to the owner. It would complete make sense to pay any infringement, parking fine, red light, speed if it occurs during car hiring period. Worst Car Rental Company - Don't do it. Exploitation at its best – Uber Carshare (UCS) is the worst rental company I've had the misfortune to deal with. Had I seen all the reviews here and I would have stop renting from them earlier. I recognise people who takes time out to write a bad review must have some grievance with the business(es). However, if the bad reviews are overwhelming skewed and they all have… Read more
consistent themes/complaints, one should be warned, like in the case with UCS. Unfortunately, I have to agree with other reviewers who are/were dealing with trumped up damages that they did not caused, that Uber's business model in the heart is exploitation (Google more on Uber whistleblowers Mark MacGann and Susan Fowler).
I have been a long time borrower when the business was still Car Next Door (CND). Never had any issues with it. Small issues started creeping up after it was took over by Uber and became UCS. On a few occasions, the cars I rented were so old and some even had mechanical issues. I feedback privately to the owners in the post trip review thinking it might be lapse in servicing, since some cars on the platform are rented out commercially so might not have the care a private owner might have. The worst one I had (or so I thought) was a car where the steering wheel kept making a clicking sound when I turn it, AND the air conditioner did not work on a 30 degree summer day.
Recently I rented a van on 20 July 2024 Saturday for one hour to move stuff. It was a smooth, uneventful trip with no accident. I took all the before and after pictures and uploaded them as I usually do. Both me and my partner noticed a small fine crack on the left rear tail light before and during the trip, which I thought nothing of since this would have been in the pictures I uploaded.
About one week after I returned the van on 26 July 2024 Friday, UCS called and later emailed me to accuse me of damaging the left rear tail light and informed me they will charge $230 or more to my card on 31 July 2024. And if the charge fail to go through, they threatened to refer this to a debt collection agency. I replied and requested for a review since the same photo that I uploaded, when zoom in, I could clearly see the fine line crack in the left rear tail light. I denied any responsibilities for the damage they accused me of since I did not do it and stated that they have no authorisation from me to charge my card.
Few days passed with nothing from UCS.
Today on 31 July 2024 Wednesday, finally an email from UCS representative at 7pm, again insisting that I caused the damaged on the said tail light and my card will be deducted today, despite the same picture that I uploaded that shown the fine crack line on the left rear tail light. No discussion. UCS said you did it so you must have, despite the evidence saying otherwise. I am escalating this to Fair Trading and seeking legal advice to deal with this trumped up damage that UCS used to scam every day people out of their money.

day the car worked fine. The second day after highway driving the car started accelerating on its own and I freaked out and tried to exit the nearest exit as warning messages appeared. It was a harrowing experience and I managed to get it to the nearest town as I didnt have cell service. I spoke with the lady on the phone about getting roadside assistance but was well outside the range so I went to bed that night. In the morning when I checked the car everything was fine so I took it out of the motels garage. I stayed nearby just in case anything happened again but a road I went down ended up being unsealed and the car got a bit of mud on it. My intention was to clean this for the owner upon its return. My intention was to drive it closer to the range where rs assistance could get it without me having to pay for a car towage for an issue I didnt create. On the way back however the safe issue happened and after calling uber I took it straight to the owner. I told them my story and told uber to tell the owner and in my review the issue. 2 days ago I get an email from uber saying that I had CAUSED the issue by going down the dirt road, which makes no sense as it happened before I went there. Once I pointed this out, uber went silent on me and darren never answered my email or returned my calls which is what people here have been saying. This is super disappointing because I got such great service when the first car wasnt available, when I had the harrowing experience the lady was lovely and to end with this is so sad. I hope darren will reach out and we can get to the bottom of why the car acted this way , not only for me but for the safety of all individuals who drive this vehicle. There was also no safety or instruction manual in the car which is a checlist on uber requirement when you pick up the vehicle.

I refunded the 3 customers and spent over $300 on repairs losing $500 in total and 3 months of bookings trying to get this resolved. So decided to delist the car and have the Bluetooth device removed.
Guess what? The car now has no problems starting however UBER refuse to take responsibilty as I can not prove the Bluetooth device was the problem.
Maybe it is because their call centre is in the Philippines and their staff are uneducated, but a 3rd grade child could work out if something was installed on a car and it stopped working and then it was removed and the car started working again that the problem is with that part!
So, after almost 3 months I am now told, sorry, here's a $100 voucher for your time.
The dumbest solution to them losing 3 months of business and now me as a customer.
Absolute clown show. What makes matters worse is when the man came to remove the Bluetooth device I asked if they had issues with them, he told me he wasn't allowed to say anything but they have had many issues, including cars stopping while driving along the road.
BUYER BEWARE, UBER Carshare is an incredibly dodgy service with terrible support and they also take 40% of your booking fee, don't waste your time, it's a ripoff and they ruin your car and take no responsibilty for it because they are UBER and think we are all beneath them.
