I went to this University since the block model seemed like it would a good choice for me. However, after completing my Bachelor. The disadvantages had really shown themselves and made the whole thing absolutely horrific. Coming into the start of my third year, I had not been able to get into every unit due to timetabling issues and lack of… Read more

space. So, I, myself, spent 3 weeks trying to simply get all my units scheduled so I can actually graduate in the 3 years that my course is. I emailed in order to get something sorted, I was told the first time that I would either have to wait for spots to open up or simply wait till next year in order to finish those subjects. I wrote back telling them, I wont be doing that since this course is advertised as 3 years full time, not 4. They then told me to talk to a student advisor at VU-HQ, a sort of center for general inquiries regarding your course. I went in and spoke to an advisor who essentially gave the same answer. I told them the same thing I said to them over email. I was then told to try meet with the Course Unit Advisor for IT subjects. For which, he was only available two days a week and cancelled his availability multiple times. I finally was able to meet with him and sorted out a plan in order to finish all the subject I required.

Then, the course chair for my subject rejected it and told me "It would be too much of an expectation of the student." Radio silence for almost 3 weeks. So, I went back to the VU-HQ to get this sorted since I was pretty fed up at this point. I spoke to another advisor who told me to wait till something can be sorted. They left me in the dark for days on end, I went in multiple times to their VU-HQ to talk to someone, only to be told, the Course Unit Advisor for your unit is not available till this date. I tried getting the email for the course chair then and was told, it's not publicly available.

So, as my third year began, the course chair for another subject came in and gave a talk so I asked if I could talk to him after the class. I told him my situation and asked what the best course of action would be. He told me "We don't have enough lecturers to make more classes and we don't have enough space for everybody." Then proceeds to say "The university did not expect a large influx of students deciding to do this bachelor." Why is there not plans in place for this sort of problem? Most other universities would simply be able to open up more classes.

So then, if there is not enough space, they crumble because "We don't have enough lecturers." Since they have to tailor lecturers to certain blocks and those units can only be taught in certain blocks. Then, when you try and get something sorted so you can complete you're required units. God forbid, they actually get their act together. So, I asked if I could get the course chairs email for my bachelor. I was told its publicly available on their sites. Really? Well, I was told otherwise and was unable to find it anywhere. I Anyway, I spoke with the course chair for my bachelor and was left radio silent for another week. This was till I emailed them simply stating if this problem was not sorted soon, I would be going to the National Student Ombudsman so that this can be sorted. They then got back to me the next day with a timetable sorted. This whole ordeal took close to 2 months and finally came to a conclusion because I threatened to go to the proper legal entity in order to sort this out. 2 months, for something that could be very easily sorted within two weeks.

Above all else, some of the units that I had to complete this year had tasks that were just not explained clearly, and had multiple errors, meaning I had to hassle with the lecturer to get something properly sorted so we can complete the work. And on top of that, some tests had questions for content that we were not taught. Like, how are we supposed to do our work and get full marks when it has content that was never explained or worded poorly?

Overall, I can understand that for some people that the block model is a good way to get through university without the stress of having to focus on multiple bits of work at once, but they really need to get their act together. It's almost annoying how I had to legally threaten them in order to have something done. It's appalling that I even had to go to that extent.

Such a terrible experience from beginning to end - Student services have severely uneducated staff that are lucky to know how to send an email. Back and fourth miscommunication, grammatical errors in communications, false information regarding course, lost paperwork all to name but a few - and this was all before ENROLMENT. Needless to say I… Read more

could not go forward with this University, appalling. How is this University not regulated and held to account?

My Wife doing a Bachelor degree in Childhood Teaching at Victoria University and she is in the 2nd year. The course workload is unreasonably high compare to other universities that provide same course. Lecturers, except for a couple of them, seems to slack off and don't put enough effort they are supposed to do or have a proper knowledge about… Read more

the subject they are teaching (based on their on admission in the class). As a results, everything is passed on to the students to read the references by themself. They provide tons of reading material for each unit which even the lecturers themselves have not gone through them and can not answer questions about those references. They have said to us that they provide supports for finding a place for placement required for some of units. However, the conditions they have to provide such a support is very unreasonable. They try to avoid providing help by threating students the place they find may be 75 km away from their home. The pressure on my with because of this course has adversely affected our life significantly, our social interaction and her job and income. In general, I highly recommend to avoid enrolling for the course at Victoria university and find another university that are more reasonable.

I wouldn't give it 1 star! Pathetic academic team and bullies! Disgusting support for regional students. They deserve to be investigated for misconduct and corruption.

I did the cert 3 for non emergency transport .. The six month course took 13 months to complete.. the equipment we trained with was broken ,obsolete and not even in use any more. Any one that wishes to become a transport officer in the ambulance industry needs to avoid Victoria university like it has the plague… Once I eventually completed the… Read more

course after finding my own placement and did the two weeks straight in the back of an ambulance away from home at my own expense ,with zero funds coming in Victoria uni took over three months to issue my certificate.. Over three months for a piece of paper which can be printed off in seconds. All the interviews I had lined up were no use as they all wanted to see the original certificate. This course is not easy by any means . And it would be fair to say in my opinion that you need to stay studying or be in the industry to stay on top of all the information that you studied. We were given the cert 3 non emergency colour coordinated book in black and white beat that if you can.. I contacted vic uni on multiple occasions and no one had a care in the world . Would be different if it was them needing the documentation wouldn’t it.. Vic uni . Avoid avoid avoid .. you have been warned .useless incompetent and very uncaring.. Do yourself a favour go anywhere else but here.. Absolutely disgusting…

Useless staf. Total joke. Incompetence ++++ – Absolutely pathetic, incompetent and useless staff. I had to drive to campus to enrol in units. I had to leave a course I was doing to drive there. Ridiculous as ALL other universities allow this to be done online. Then, constant issues with advanced standing for a unit I did that was identical to a future unit. I did my nursing degree at VU and… Read more

6 months into a Bachelor of Building surveying before withdrawing and going to parker brent to do advanced diploma – KEEP AWAY, horrible experience. no accountability, no clear english speaking teachers and the ones that are really don't care and have checked out years ago. You try and complain and it just gets handballed. More interested in making everyone feel comfy and safe than teaching

Unsafe and Toxic Environment: A Warning for Prospective Students – I regret choosing this university. It’s unsafe and toxic, with serious issues like ignored complaints and retaliation. Sadly, these problems have persisted for a long time without any intervention. Think twice before sending your kids to Victoria University.

You Get What You Pay For – This university doesn’t provide assessment feedback when requested and expects students to accept grades without justification. When I filed a formal complaint, I faced harassment and exploitation. The university's complaint policy seems to protect its own interests only, causing serious harm to vulnerable students. I've seen students receive… Read more

failing grades without explanation, their applications for reassessment ignored, and encouraged to re-enrol to generate revenue. Government authorities seem uninterested, reflecting a corrupt system. I can't recommend this university due to its unsafe environment, incompetent lecturers, and poor value for money. It's not the right place for a smooth academic journey.

Warning: Beware of Unsafe Learning Environment at Victoria University – Based on my experience, I strongly advise against choosing Victoria University. The lecturers there have been consistently irresponsible, ignoring assessment standards. Even after bringing up these concerns multiple times, the university's lack of action shows a troubling disregard for student well-being. Their complaint procedure seems more about… Read more

The decline of VU for both sessional staff, employees and ultimately, students – Previously employed as sessional staff member in College of Health and Biomedicine; worked for 4 years before specific incident; - COVID-related cases detected in face-to-face workshops = final 2-weeks of the 4-week block model unit 'put on hold'. - Complaint submitted on my part regarding students to deserve face-to-face delivery rather than… Read more

online-alternative (as all tertiary institutions have charged same amount for online-delivery as normal F2F units - ludicruous in itself). - After referring students to administration for communication regarding re-scheduled class-times, I was inexplicably terminated from the remaining delivery of the unit I was teaching (~$2,500 worth of work). Without any formal communications as to why, this revoking seemed almost contemptuous in nature.

After communicating the incident to a number of colleagues at Victoria University, it was revealed to me that multiple incidents have been reported to Fair Work Australia regarding remarkably poor communication between administration and staff, overworking full-time staff with multiple 'roles' with a shear lack-of-compensation of the hours worked and most disappointing, a shear lack of accountability in the organisation for problematic incidents I just mentioned.

Since the adoption of the 'Block Model' by Vic Uni across all colleges and courses, there has been a stark decline in the quality of the education and utilisation of resources provided by the University.

I hope this summary is read and digested by both future students and staff who are considering Victoria University to be a worthwhile endevour regarding education; it may have been at one point but we are witnessing it's inevitable decline and unimpeded bureaucratic rule.
