Mppt controller and a Victron smart shunt: Both quality items and expect they will perform well once installed. Delivery process: May I suggest progressive updates. There were none since receiving confirmation of purchase. Waited 2 weeks before contacting Kate. Products then sent via courier. Brian B.
This is a well built device that works well, just remember to wire your panels in series to keep the voltage high enough to activate it in low light conditions. I recommend this product. Thanks Show details
Great product, well made. It came reasonable fast for a great price. Definitely looking again if I need more gear. Show details
Hmmmmmmm – My new vans wiring was wrongly identified so I reversed the polarity on the SP terminals. My wife said, oh no is it buggered. I said, no it's reverse polarity protected, says I Well it's f%$#&*n not. Most $60 eBay chargers are and this $250+ unit is not. Don't buy one if you sometimes make mistakes only if you are perfect
If you are thinking of going off grid, you need this – I cannot comment on the 1 star review here because l have had the complete opposite experience and l simply do not understand where they are coming from. The beauty of the Victron 100 30 is that it will tell you in real time the state of charge from your solar panels and the state of your batteries. It's easily done by downloading the free app… Read more
and Bluetoothing the unit to the app. I have found this to be incredibly informative. I upgraded to this unit from a Kings "dumb", (dumb in the sense that it only has LED lights to tell you what is happening). regulator and l have not looked back. It was $300 but well worth it. It's worth it because it's a game changer. You are not guessing at the state of your system; you can see in real time what it's doing. The 3 modes are straightforward and are terms used in battery charging. It's set and forget. I am using 260w solar panels and 2x100Ah batteries to run fridge, TV and lights in our camper trailer. So far it has been fantastic and exceeded my expectations. I have the 100 30 but l could have used the 100 20. Probably better to have room for expansion in future but the bigger unit is twice the size. I recommend the Victron regulators.
Victron Charge Regulator Stopped Working – I bought the Victron MPPT 100 I 30 Charge Controller back in October 2022. I have a small off-grid solar system with two separate battery banks. One of the banks didn't have a charge regulator at all and I was worried I would overcharge the batteries. Plus, the batteries were a bit old and not in great shape. I used them to run the TV or a… Read more
small fan (but not both at the same time) and that's about all the batteries could handle and only when the sun was shining. When I opened the box to the Victron regulator, I was disappointed to find that there was no way to monitor what was going on with the charging process - no display for the output and input. I went to the Victron website and found out you have to spend several hundred more dollars to buy a display unit or download software to run the regulator from your computer. Neither of these two options were suitable for me, so I just ran the regulator as is - blind. But on the regulator, there are 3 lights with the terms "bulk", "absorption" and "float". I've done some reading on solar energy and have never come across these terms before. I looked on the Victron website but couldn't find any info. So I sent Victron an email with questions about these terms and a few other technical questions. Their response was shocking. They referred me back to the retailer to answer the questions. I have never before had a manufacturer tell me to go to a retailer to answer technical questions about the manufacturer's own product. Retailers handle hundreds of products from dozens of manufacturers. How can they know all the technical details of all these products???? So, big fail on Victron's part for customer service.
At first, the charge regulator worked really well and even expanded the capacity of the batteries a bit, enough to run both the TV and the fan at the same time and even for an hour or so after sundown. But after 3 months, all of a sudden, the batteries would shut down after about 20 minutes of watching just the TV, even with full sun shining on the panel. This should not have happened because the solar panel is 275 watts, more than enough to handle the TV. I would leave the TV off for about an hour and then could watch the TV for another 20 minutes before the battery system would shut down again. This shut-down problem kept going on every day and all day during sunny hours and after about a week, I decided to check if the problem was the Victron regulator by unhooking the regulator from the battery system (I do know the solar panels have to be unhooked first and then it is safe to unhook the regulator from the batteries). And right away, the batteries were fine again and could run the TV all day without shutting down. For some reason, the Victron charge regulator stopped working properly and was actually blocking energy going from the solar panel to the batteries. Another big fail for Victron. They have bad customer service and a bad product in the MPPT 100 I 30. I won't be buying any more products from this company.
