A quick review after stumbling across all the bad ones. 2015 Diesel Manual 1.6 Litres Power: 103kw/ 140hp SWB owned from new. Personal use so doesn't get loaded up. Always aware it is a diesel so don't do lots of little trips, it gets good highway drive regularly. 96k on the clock. Front pads / rotors changed at 86k. Rear ones are up for… Read more

replacement now. Note: at about 40k a dodgy dealer told me they all needed replacement. Only issue is the engine management light came on after hitting a decent pothole, mechanic cleared and it never came back. Paint above the windscreen flaked off, seems to be a common theme. It has been a great van for me. Mine would have been serviced every 10 - 15k.

Disaster – Lane assist ruins music and podcasts. Spent 30 minutes trying to figure out how to turn it off, but the manual didn't match the van. I dont think it can be turned off. This is my life now. Everything is too hard to use. I want this van OUT OF MY LIFE.

Edited: Please read paragraph at end detailing a couple of issues that have emerged for buyers to be aware of but we still absolutely love this van. We were worried before buying this after reading some negative reviews. We have now had the van for 2.5 years and can safely say it is an absolute gem to drive and own. Admittedly it has low km… Read more

(bought in 2022 from a business at 66k and now at 90k). It has plenty of power and plenty of refinement. We removed the bulkhead (guided by a Youtube video) and can turn it from an empty van into a camping set up in about 20 mins. We had windows put in the back forward panels at All Van Mods in Brisbane - also brilliant. We love the ability to seat three...passenger seats are uncomfortably upright but that is easily fixed with a small lumbar cushion.

The spare tyre is a pain to get out on the road so have a famil before you need it in real life and buy a cross shaped tyre iron to stick behind your seat. Also be careful of water collecting under the step inside the side sliding door. We removed it and just put a little non-slip mat in.

The economy is exceptional - real world 6.5l/100 in combo driving conditions. Treat her well and give her quality oil changes and she will love you back. The overall feel is quality and solid and to top it all off...LIME GREEN! Edit January 2025 Van is at 100, 000km. There are signs of an oil leak on the timing cover. We recently had the clutch pedal only return half way back after being released. We took it to the mechanic and they couldn't replicated the problem so will continue to monitor. Apparently the master cylinder can be an issue in these vans according to some information on the internet.

Nice to drive and good on fuel – Bought new and fitted out with basic campervan fittings. Nice to drive with a comfy cabin and good seating position. For a smallish 1.6lt twin turbo diesel engine the Trafic is quite spritely. It is very good on fuel with a recent 5000Klm trip averaged (according to dashboard readout) 6.3lt/100Klm. Tank holds 80lts which gives a range of 12 -… Read more ·  1

1400klms. Tank filler is also large so can fill up at truck bowsers. Ride is quite good with my fitout load of about 500kgs (including me.) Came with rear Barn Doors which wasn't my preference but they have proved their worth in not needing a large space to open, easy to load, provide shelter if cooking in windy conditions and easy to get a private area if wanting a shower. Bad points are: No handle on A Pillar to help get in and out. ... Bad omission. Reverse gear is too tall. Very hard to back uphill without riding clutch. Big Mistake. I have had the van for about 9 months now and am very pleased with it. No issues apart from screen not disconnecting reversing camera when coming out of reverse gear. Quick turning van off then on doesn't seem to work. I've had to turn vehicle off for around 10 mins then all is good. Radio etc still work but don't have icons on screen to change anything. This has happened twice and is a software glitch of some sort that I expect will be weeded out on future updates ...

Trash – I bought two of these and have never made it to a service interval without the engine light coming on. The last time I took it to the dealership they gave it back to me without fixing the issue. They said they would fix it next service which was 10,000kms away, all while the vehicle was driving in limp mode. The engine light was due to a DPF issue… Read more

which is common with the Trafics and vitos as they share the same engine. I got genuine front parking sensors installed by the dealership and they look horrible. I don't mind paying extra for dealership quality, but the quality I received was trash.

Fantastic vehicle, except for one thing – This is my second Renault Trafic LWB twin turbo, the first was written off when hit from behind, but both have performed brilliantly. Power is good, I travel interstate in it a lot and cruising is easy and very comfortable. The features and layout are great, love the middle seat that folds down into a worktable, with room to hide your laptop. I… Read more

have the "Tech" version that has a floor and wall panels and handy boxes over the wheel arches - and powerful LED lighting in the rear. One little quibble is the silly instrument display. It has a 10-feature trip computer like most vehicles these days, but only displays one bit of information at a time. You have to take your eyes off the road and press a button repeatedly to get to the information you want. How could someone design that deliberately? Don't they think we can absorb more than one bit of info at time without getting confused?

That's not my gripe though. My gripe is the undertray beneath the front bumper. It's too low. It on catches standard concrete parking bollards. The first time it happened, just after I bought it, it pulled the front bumper half off. The dealer repaired it under warranty, although I suspect he just repaired it at his own expense as it was basically labour to re-attach it.

The second time it was again repaired by a (different) dealer. It was only an hour's labour (this time the bumper didin't come off), but this just re-affirmed that the undertray is simply too low! My Kia Stinger doesn't catch on parking bollards, a commercial van certainly shouldn't! Renault declined to cover the cost under warranty, which is no big deal as it wasn't much, but they refused to accept the fault was with the vehicle, not with me.

So, by all means buy a Trafic (nevermind the naysayers on this website, they are a tiny percentage of many owners), but don't park it up to a bollard until the wheels touch - you'll never get it off again!

Very disappointing from day one – From day 1 My 85kw short wheelbase 6 speed manual trafic once the vehicle had weight in it, it was evident that it had a extremely weak clutch, particularly when reversing up a hill. There is no way I would use the vehicle to launch my boat just doesn’t have enough power.or traction Hill starts in the wet are fraught with danger and Tyre slip… Read more

is atrocious & I run the best Michelin tyres you can get. Actually the first Goodyear tyres were scrubbed at 15,000 due to tire spinning as I was working in a hilly area that my old Volkswagen Transporter handled with ease with more weight in it. Renault states servicing at 30,000 or 12 months and I service it around 8000 km and six months with a Renault approved full synthetic oil & filters Only premium Caltex diesel has been used. The van has travelled 67,000 km in three and three-quarter years, and I was flat stretch of road it failed to rev and carry any speed. Turned out that the turbo had blown up and also oil and entered the intercooler, I had to wait three weeks for the part which came from Queensland Renault dealer & I’m in Sydney. The part costs was $5500 and my mechanics bill with other bits and pieces that were associated with the repair was a further $3000 + I had $1100 higher car charge I Consider the vehicle not fit for purpose the vehicle is used as a carpenter builder and 67,000 km is not a lot in three and three-quarter years Also, I am around 400kg up to 250 kg under the maximum gross vehicle weight with me sitting in the vehicle. The vehicle gets a regular trip down to Berry about 130 km each way & 2 trips to Jindabyne around 1000 klm return & I let it idle down for a couple of min after a long trip so turbo issue should not be a problem. It also uses brake discs and pads at a far greater rate than my old Volkswagen My mechanic also mentioned that the front bumper bar assembly is extremely weak as he had to remove this to service the intercooler. I have noticed that it drops and drags and is now held up by cable ties. Weak hand brake Hill assist is inconsistent to engage even on the same gradient (my driveway) One positive note is that it is fairly economical averaging around 9.5 in the city and around 7.5 on a country run & the gearbox is slick shifting The automatic lights wipers dimming mirrors & internal led lights DAB RADIO cruis connection control phone connectivity are fantastic I have another tradie that’s got the 2 L automatic trafic and he doesn’t rate it either and prefers his old Mitsubishi 2.4 L express, as I prefer my old Volkswagen transporter. (It did375000klm with a clutch replacement at 27500klm& a aircon compressor replacement) I use the vehicle on Monday to Friday and occasionally on the weekend? When I purchased the vehicle it had a three year 200,000 km warranty so I missed out as the died after the warranty period. Unfortunately shortly after purchase Renault extended the warranty to 5 years or 200000 klm & I was also told by Tynan motors that they would take at least six weeks to fix the problem as this is why I used my very competent, mechanic and he’s co-worker was a former Renault Mechanic from Domoneli Ford Renault. What I was also wondering is that the Dominelli group who I purchased the vehicle from decided to stop selling Renault and to lose the franchise I suspect, too many problems associated with Renault. The replacement turbo is a genuine Renault borg Warner unit & the van is partially better in throttle response now I would advise you do your research before your next van purchase as I am very disappointed with my Renault van.

Mitsubishi Express/Renault Trafic – I have to say something about these vans because i see so much negative stuff but hardly any positive but my experience has been surprisingly good. so far. I use to drive a 2013 Vito and loved that van . So at first i was not sure about this van but it grew on me . Now after i put some better wheels and Tyres on it (same as i did with my Vito) it drives like a car . Only thing is because it has no glass option in the passenger side door it really needs a blind spot detection device from factory . You can use the passenger side visor mirror as a blind spot aid but a bit of a pain to put it down just for that . Brakes... any Euro car goes through rotors and pads . The combo is soft . I had that problem with my Vito . So, if you know what type of aftermarket ones to put on get them done elsewhere ( Go for Eurospec Disc and pads) . So we shall see if it goes to 250k k's like my vito but i was talking to a tradie who has had his for a year and he loves it too .

This is my fourth Renault - much more comfortable than Toyota Hiace – This is my second Trafic and fourth commercial Renault for use in my business. The 2021 Trafic Premium SWB van is economical to run, averaging at or under 7 litres per 100km with highway running. It has car like handling and is genuinely very comfortable to travel in, even on long day trips over 500kms. I have never wanted for more power, even… Read more

fully loaded, and it cruises at 100kmh under 2000rpm, which is great! The Premium model has a sealed cabin (bulkhead) between cabin and cargo which makes the air conditioning much more effective and efficient and keeps the noise from the cargo to a minimum - this is a wonderful feature and companies like Toyota or Mitsubishi don't really offer it other than as an expensive option - and in my mind is a big PLUS for the Renault Trafic Premium model

I think the service intervals are probably too far between at 30000kms or once a year (whichever comes first) - I won't leave it go that far between services but you may have different opinions. There is fixed price servicing so you know what you are up for in advance.

My most recent Trafic purchase had a problem with the AdBlue system (the tank failed) early on in its life and Renault Australia prompt and efficient replacing the part asap no questions asked - this was achieved within 4 days (but the selling dealer didn't exactly hurry to get me in to get it fixed which was an inconvenience you don't want as a business relying on the vehicle to derive your income). This is not a Renault issue but a dealer issue - so if this is important to you make sure your dealership is "onside" before you buy!!

Overall I am a big Renault fan, but their dealers could probably try harder to fix problems more expeditiously when the rare problem arises.

my trafic is 3 years old now and its a great van – I would give it 5 stars but there is couple of minor reasons (1), mine is manual, and reversing uphill, will kill the clutch, the gears are wrong for reverse, if you have a trailer on do not park were you have to reverse up hill, (automatic will not have this issue) (2) brakes, the brakes are actually really good, but they only last 25-30000ks,… Read more

and from renault this is $1400 service as you have to replace all brakes and rotors, (I found aftermarket option for $800 but they still only last 30000ks)

initially I had some major issues but this is with the dealership and not the car itself, these issues were major and enough to make you hate the brand, they were actually so bad, once I signed the line they switched off and didnt care, and constantly lied, again not a fault of the vehicle, but it made wanting to go back to the dealership stressful.

I was concerned initially as not long after I purchased there were some bad reviews, I was worried my van would be same, I even contacted some of the people directly on product review to see how they coping, I even started looking for what to replace it with, but with covid there were no vehicles to even think about as no stock. new toyota hiace would be the choice but not as long in the wheel base and no barrier let alone vapor barier, but even so the features of this renault van I liked and it all works well. however most of the people with major issues are companies with several vans and employees driving them, I think owner operators may care for them better hence less issues.

what I like. long wheel base, plenty of room larger than others in same class whilst keeping low roof solid partition wall this is not only practical but safe, I modified mine slightly so no fumes come through also as I carry some paints and chemicals at times it has every electronic option you could need (no lane departure though but I didnt know this existed in vans) drives smooth and holds the road better than any other van I have owned, seats comfy, cupholders accessible, phone holder, nb phone holder is easily modified to suit larger phones, I took the top of mine so gravity holds phone in place, easier to get in and out. digital radio and steering controls, fuel efficient, I get between 7.9-8.5 depends on if I have trailer connected, dual sliding doors standard, it has an eco button that makes it even more fuel efficient but takes a bit of getting used to, the engine has a auto turn of when you come to a stop this can be good and bad, but has a button on dash so you can turn it off.

what I dont like, (1)the only thing it doesnt have is handle grips to get in and out, this was an expensive option. I even tried to look at an aftermarket option no luck (2) it did have a electronic issue built up for a few weeks, Renault avoided me and avoided answering my questions, this was in the first 8 months, eventually I sent an email to UK renault specialist, who advised that at each service Renault should do computer reset or software upgrade if available, but renault techs here were unaware, they just thought no upgrade required should be good, what happens is a bit of a build up in the canbus system causes minor issues until it sends wrong signals, a tell tale sign is automatic windscreen wipers not working, eventually the car would not start, working in electronics myself for 20+ years this made sense, so simple method is, headlights on, disconnect battery, leave for 5 mins reconnect, if radio doesnt want code then repeat. (3) renault australia, sorry but they were hopeless, I sent them email complaining about the dealership and they just forward it to dealership, cmon take some ownership, I since see that renault australia has changed owners/distributors this is not a fault of the vehicle though. (4) renault service centres, mechanics and service reps constantly change and leave there is no consistancy, again not a vehicle fault

to be noted, vehicle has 30k service intervals so mine was getting serviced initially in 12 months, sub 15000ks, however I did notice after 1st service car drove really smooth after, but oil gets dirty very quick so I have been doing 6 month oil and oil filter changes, maybe this is why my car not suffering similar issues as others, the engine feels soo much smoother after oil change I would hate to think what any cars oil would be like after 30000ks. I think it too long, I think this is a reason some renault owners have had issues with there vans as 30000ks is just too long, you can buy the oil and oil filter between $80-$90 first time will cost extra as it needs 7.4l and oil comes in 7l tubs. it actually very easy to do yourself, takes me less than 20 minutes in driveway,

I dont do large kms, between 10-15k per year, the service centre had issue with the buildup of muck through the intake, apparently I need to drive it harder, I average 7.9l per 100, it cost $220 to do a clean so I think the fuel saving is worth it, otherwise apparently I have to take it on a long run constant revs to allow the DPF filter to burn off. I googled and yes that is correct. servicing was $599 each interval at renault however mitsubishi have same car now so there is some competition so shop around,

the new shape toyota had not released yet when I purchased in october 2018 otherwise I probably would have purchased the new hiace,

the van prior to this was a hyundai Iload, and that van also had many bad reviews, mine was awesome it actually never went back to the dealer for anything after the 1st 1000km checkup, I kept it for 5 years so longer than normally, 90000ks I only traded it because I had outgrown it and needed something bigger, I think any vehicle can have troubles if you dont look after it or treat it right, they hyundai I serviced myself once the warranty ran out. and again, didnt let it go 15000ks did it around 8000ks,

I normally buy new van every 3-4 years, I currently looking at everything, toyota is 12k more and less room, slwb is 20k more but toyota not making this currently no stock.

however I have looked at everything available currently but seems like Im leaning toward the mitsubishi (renault trafic) same car, but will go automatic,

I would recommend the Renault trafic, treat it right and it will be a sturdy workhorse for many kms,

Unreliable van, terrible customer service – This van was purchased as a work van. From the start there have been constant problems with break downs and warning lights. to head office they finally said they would diagnose it to see if it was covered under warranty. No loan car is available until it is diagnosed and so of course they took over a month to open it up and look at it. 5 weeks of lost wages and constantly being lied to on the phone as they promised it would be done and then deadline not met. After the 5 weeks they did a patch fix, gave it back and still need to bring it back in later for repairs which will mean more loss of business. Avoid this dodgy van at all costs!

Renault..... Just don't care – I purchased a 'Brand New' 2014 Trafic in March 2015. Since then I have had nothing but trouble. Renault were on side for the first 12 months. After that they couldn't give a flying toss. To this day I am still having gearbox problems. The same problems, that began whilst still under warranty. Radio crashed 1 month after warranty expired. … Read more

They originally offered to replace the radio, then decided that I needed to pay half of the cost. My half was to be $750.00. Other problems have included - door hinges, hazard lights, windows, excessive tyre wear and tail gate. Purchased from Brighton ( read also Peninsula) Renault for $32,500. Thankfully the Service Manager "left" about 12 months ago. Though nothing has changed in their attitude. My advice - Give Renault a wide berth. I believe even Australia Post has switched their vans to Toyota now.

X82 2016 Dci140 twin turbo 100k km – I'll begin with admitting I'm a mechanic and have driven vans for a long time. Hiace, Urvan, Vito. I sold my beloved Mercedes Vito to buy this French Baguette* new in 2016. Special order, took 5 months to arrive. SWB metallic black Pro Pack with tailgate and 2 sliding doors. *French vehicles terrify me generally. After 100k km this is what's… Read more

gone right. Its great to drive. Second best handling van I've driven next to my old 2004 Vito Looks nice, good seats. OK power once you get past the turbo lag. 1.6L diesel with twin turbos, there is going to be lag. Original tyres lasted 100k km. Amazing. Original clutch. Not many highway km so I think its doing well. I'm gentle on it, never slip the clutch. Not much has fallen off. Fuel economy same as my old Vito, very good. Never been on a tow truck.

What has gone wrong. The dealers are a problem. They come and go and are generally under trained. I have found Mildrens in Artarmon in Sydney to be the best. Dealers using the wrong oil in services has been a problem. DPF blocked up from dealers using the wrong oil. It came good with some highway km and 3 oil changes in 5000km Engine rattles on startup. when the oil gets old it rattles more. Rattles less with fresh oil. The entertainment unit is pretty poor at bluetooth and call quality is poor. Timing cover has leaked since new. never had it repaired under warranty as I fear the engine out repair will cause more problems than it fixes. So much plastic to break. Air conditioning is not made for Australia. Power steering occasionally stops assisting mid corner. Nearly crashed it a few times because of that. Auto start stop works sporadically. Turn it off in traffic. Both front struts are pouring out oil at 90k km. Not too bad. Dealer said brakes were shot at 70k km. They lied, they were 50% worn. I replaced them anyway with aftermarket discs and pads. Brakes are now worse, OEM discs and pads were much better. Clutch master leaking at 95k km. Trying an aftermarket one as the OEM part seems to fail a lot.

Tips The suggested service interval is 30k km. This is a bad joke. Change it every 10k km and use a good quality C4 oil like Fuchs or Penrite. Fuel filter changes every 30k km Change gears carefully. Drive it like a fragile plastic French van.

Update 07/12/22. 150K km. Still going well, DPF passive burn issues becoming more frequent. May have to get DPF cleaned off the vehicle. Probably caused in part by the dealers using petrol engine oil every service. Gave up on them and do the service myself now. Oil changes every 10k km with Fuchs C4. Still goes very well and drives like the day I bought it in 2016.

bay so they can investigate further. 3 of the vans have been towed in. Latest gear issues ,got the van into them yesterday (under warranty)have been told they should be able to have a look at it. 1 week later Renault have not looked at the van.

10 days later they still haven't diagnosed issue 12 days later they still haven't looked at the van ,the dispute now is the warranty .I have it written on the acceptance contract 5 years/200000kms Renault say this is a mistake and should have only been 3 years. I have provided them with the contract for sale ,they said they will get back to me .Have just called them and they are to busy to take my call.Have been promised a call back. Day 12 and Renault have said I need to move the van from their Renault Osborne Park store to their Melville service Department a distance of 23kms.I have to organise ..I have been told that Melville will fix it since they made a mistake putting a 5 year warranty on my purchase contract. Day13 Picked up van from Scarborough Renault who charged me $160.00 and told me they couldn't work out the problem with van. Took the van to Melville Renault who told me the issue was most likely not a warranty issue, most likely a gear box issue. They said they would not look at it unless I signed an agreement to give the $1650.00 so they could look at the gear box. So we have Melville Renault selling Trafics to me with a 5 year/200000 unlimited warranty ,which Renault Australia say is not recognized by them ,and I have Melville telling me the issue is most likely not covered. This van has done 110000 kms in 3.5 years

I will now take my complaint to consumer affairs ,hopefully they can deal with Renault.

So we looked into consumer affairs and they said ,email your complaint to them and see if they will respond. So emailed Melville Renault 18/8/20 with the complaints and received back from them an email:,

Thank you for your email, I am going to follow this up for you with my Dealer Principal he is back in tomorrow.

I can clearly see the 5 year warranty on your contract so this will 100% get rectified for you.

Speak soon, kind regards

Have emailed Hollie on 25/08/20 and, asked her what was going on,I received back another email :

I have passed this over to my Dealer Principal and my Aftercare Manager, I will chase up for you again.

Kind regards,

I have had to now purchase another vehicle for my tradesman ,obviously not a Renault in order for him to work.

don't buy one – I have just watched my 2018 Renault trafic leave on the back of a tow truck. this is not just my transport but also my workplace and advertising. In the time I have owned this van it has spent over 7 weeks in the dealers workshop for warranty repair. firstly after just a short time it developed an intermittent shudder under acceleration which to… Read more

this day is still unresolved. Then it started making noises like lack of oil on startup.I was given various reasons ranging from loose tinware to exhaust flange leaks for this problem by the dealer. After changing dealers the van was dropped off for diagnosis while I was interstate for 3 weeks. Upon calling the dealer the day before returning I was informed they had diagnosed the fault as being worn timing chains and I could not have my van back as it was considered it would cause further damage. Bare in mind I had been complaining of this issue for around 35 thousand kilometres. After being told by the service reception guy that they would not be supplying a loan van I spoke to the service manager who organised an old hyundai van for me. I picked up the van 2 weeks later and told them I would let them know if the problem was solved. Around a week later I called the service department to let them know the problem had not been resolved. shortly after this the van returned to the dealer for the 60k service where I again raised the issue and again it was unresolved. At this point it was rebooked for a time when I could be given a loan van for a period of 2 weeks after which I had to return the van and pickup my own as the dealer needed their loan van back. As the issue had not been resolved I contacted Renault Australia whom I had spoken to on numerous occasions re the issues who informed me that the diagnosis was incomplete because I had taken the vehicle back basically implying it was on my insistence that the van was returned to me. I also contacted the service manager again who at the time told me that due to corona virus he had no staff available and wasn't even sure that he would have a job. Some weeks later I again spoke to the service department and service manager who then told me that their tech had put 30 hours in to my van in the 2 weeks it was with them and he was not prepared to put any more time in to it. To put this in to perspective as an ex mechanic and business owner I can tell you if you are getting 30 productive hours out of an employee in a 35 hour week you are extremely fortunate to have them. At best this represents a whole week spent on my van. when I told the service manager the technician was probably better suited to sweeping floors I was promptly asked to leave the dealership. The reason the van has again gone back is faulty clutch master cylinder and a fault in the door alarm system which causes the van to flash warning lights and sound the door alarm sometimes for up to 40 plus kilometres before eventually stopping. This issue has supposedly been resolved once but is now at the point where the vehicle is unlockable. Add to this other more minor issues such as the constant need to reboot the communications system so you can actually use it and the fact that the microphone has been replaced already along with the handbrake cable which was done as a recall plus other niggling problems. The last time the van was at the dealers I had to wait while they refitted the belly plates underneath as they had them off for 'diagnosis purposes'. approximately 1 week later I was lying under the van refitting them as they had fallen off. Then just a week ago I parked nose in to the kerb at my local supermarket and tore the belly plate off upon reversing. I have been quoted over $400 for the parts alone to replace the plate which was damaged originally due to the improper fitting by a service technician. As I mentioned at the start this vehicle is both my workplace and my advertising both of which I am now without again and will be for at least another 3 to4 days making it another week of unproductive time in my business. add to this the constant thoughts of whether I am going to be sitting on the side of the road waiting for a towtruck when the thing finally does let go and the fact that I am reluctant to fully set up the van as I would like due to having to remove all my gear so frequently . Now Lets talk about resale value. I have been offered $14k as a trade in for a van that has 90K on the clock and is under 2 years old . That is $10k per year of ownership. Before you consider buying a Renault think seriously about the fact that you will probably be burning more dollars than you would buying a more expensive alternative and will quite possibly be spending a lot of time arguing with the dealership and Renault Australia over warranty issues.

Trafic x82 lwb – Just done over 50000kms without any problems, used as a daily driver and campervan for holidays. Amazing fuel economy for long distance drives and sits easily on 110km/h. Very comfortable suspension and seating, difficult to fault. Show details

Not very reliable – Had the van for 3 years and completed 105000kms. Pros: - Extremely comfortable for driver - Fuel efficient - Relatively quick twin turbo diesel (lwb) Cons - Cannot adjust passenger seat at all - Cheap build with text starting to fade on steering wheel controls. - Gear box replaced at 18000kms after complaining about odd sound when taking the van… Read more

out of gear. The manager of the service department suggested I couldn't drive manual and found it odd that I took the van out of gear at a set of lights (not uncommon). The mechanic said the gearbox needed replacing.

- Intercooler pipe was "worn" and the van needed to be towed to the dealership as it wouldn't start. The dealer was trying to charge for parts and labour and I suggested it is a warranty item which they agreed.

- Accessory belt was squeaking and the dealer suggested a replacement very soon. Quoted at $542. I told them to not bother.

- Reversing up hills is definately not advised in this van (especially with a load). The manufacturer definately stuffed the gear ratios up with this and you will simply burn the clutch. No, it is not the driver.

I would avoid renault in any future purchases. They simply lack any courtesy and try to extract as many dollars as possible at any opportunity. Their vans (in my opinion) are not of commercial quality and the amount of other negative reviews suggests the same thing. Simply too high of a failure rate on parts.

Waste of money steer clear of the trafic – I bought this van after owning a reliable hiace for 13 years. Without incident mind you. Enter the trafic. I bought this vehicle as it has a 2 tonne towing capacity. It is lucky to pull a tonne. I have almost burnt out the clutch and I have 6000kms on the clock from trying to pull the odd trailer. Which is maybe at best twice a month . The brakes… Read more

are terrible and in an emergency I'll be surprised if they will pull you up in time. The sat nav handcontrols for the audio stop and start when they feel like it. The hand brake is terrible. Auto sensor for the wipers work periodically even in torrential rain. The 2 sliding doors have failed and they have to replace the latches. I can go on and on about how bad this vehicle is. Bad turbo lag you name it. You have been warned. Stay clear of this vehicle

I bought a bamboo green lemon – I purchased this van new from Werribee Renault as I run a handyman business and the Ford econovan was at the end of its life and no air-conditioning. This is what $32,000 gets you.. From the outset I had troubles with the window switches, the steering mounted audio controls and the radio. The dealer replaced the switches and updated the radio… Read more

firmware on 4 occasions before correcting the issue of the volume level that would constantly change. Rear power socket never worked, decoration only. Side door handle replaced twice. Gear shifter boot replaced.

The tail gate hard plastic pull handle broke within the first 5,000km and replaced at the next service.

The clutch master cylinder was replaced twice. Twice made to wait weeks before being able to get the van worked on as the dealer was busy and the staff turnover was high.

The van went into limp mode at 12,000km. Had to wait 2 weeks for a new fuel rail to be flown in from France. The van was off the road for 3 weeks. Again dealer too busy to fit me in.

At 50,000 km the turbo blew up and the fragments were ingested by the engine.

Turbo replaced but the compression test on the engine failed. 4 weeks to have a new engine ordered, delivered and fitted. Unable to get my local dealer to complete the repairs, again too busy and a 4 week wait before they could look at it. Vehicle was taken to North Melbourne. 40km away. My local dealer was only 4km away. Dealer test drives the van and finds the gear box was noisy. New gear box fitted. An additional week off the road.

Renault tells me to rent a van and they would then reimburse me. Convinced them that they would need to pay for the rental. They agreed and I collected the rental. After 5 weeks I was charged $1200 for the rental van as Renault had only paid for a 5 day rental.

Finally reimbursed $900 after several weeks of phone calls. Not only can they not build vehicles, their calculator is also faulty. $300 short!!

At 60,000km it needed new brake rotors. I'm by no means heavy on brakes. At 66kw the engine was far too underpowered. It struggled trying to get up steep hills. Reversing up steep driveways was impossible.

Cabin comfort was brilliant. Fuel economy was amazing. 1150km per tank.

They were the only two positives.

I will never buy another vehicle from Renault nor entertain the thought of purchasing a vehicle from their sister brands.

I disposed of the vehicle once the warranty ran out.

I've spoken to many Trafic owners who share the same horror stories with their vans.

I should have invested in a horse. At least it's poo makes for good fertiliser.

Australia needs to have "lemon laws" to stop companies from selling vehicles that are clearly not fit for purpose.

Generally great can - a few quirks – I bought this van for my business and use it daily, including for towing. I drive in the city and Adelaide hills so quite a variety of challenges. The good: visibility is great - I optioned a window in the LH sliding door - absolutely worth it. Speed limiting option in the cruise control - set it and never worry about a speeding ticket. Also… Read more

has the feature that if you put your foot hard down it will override it - ie for overtaking.

Fuel efficiency - not as good as stated (when is it ever?) but after 3 yrs will still comfortably get 950kms country and 700kms city/hills.

Big, square cargo area - amazed how much fits in there.

Solid firewall - not air tight, but enough that the air con isn’t trying to cool the whole van.

Easy to drive and handles well.

The bad: Worst is the reverse gear ratio. It’s equal to second gear - absolutely hopeless for backing up steep slopes and impossible with a loaded trailer - you just burn the hell out of the clutch. This is a pretty big oversight for a commercial vehicle.

Many Renault’s have connectivity with iPhone/ Android etc voice command. The early x82’s do not. Can’t fathom why they didn’t option phone voice command into a commercial vehicle.

When it rains heavily, it comes up with a rear park sensor error. You can push a button to turn off park assist so the beeping stops, but the cruise control won’t work until it dries out. No one’s been able to solve that one for me yet.

It’s bloody wide - 2.2m to the mirror tips, which in some places is wider than the carparks. I’ve just come to accept that some places I have to find two parks and use them both.

Overall: it’s been a great van, and the techs here have been great with regular servicing (annual), even picking up on faults and booking the warranty work without me having to chase. Just bear in mind that if you are likely to need to reverse up anywhere steep this probably isn’t the van for you. Otherwise it’s been a great choice.

Satisfied – I drive this van 70 to 100kms per day to and from work. Performs well, 7 litres Diesel per 100kms. 50,000kms to date and the only issue was that the rear power outlet never worked from day 1. I run many company vehicles but never thought I would own a Renault, totally happy todate. Show details

Waste of money – Purchased van in 2017 have had nothing but problems, Diesel particulate filter keeps blocking, apparently it's due to the way I drive.not sure what they mean but I drive to work site park van and then drive home the way I have been for the last 20 years with different vehicles and have never had a problem ( should have purchased another Nissan… Read more

Crap car, worse service – I bought a new trafic LWB twin turbo. It's fast and comfortable but that's where it ends. It has 17000km on it and has had a new clutch, new gear lever cables, new harmonic balancer, oil sprayed all over the alternator, eco button stop working and struggling to select reverse after the clutch replacement. The car is less than 1 year old. It has… Read more

spent 7 weeks getting repairs in a 50 week ownership by me from new. 14% of the time I have owned it it was in the shop. The dealer Brian Hilton Gosford keeps sending me to Renault Australia and they don't give a stuff. I have purchased a new one elsewhere as I cannot trust this van to take me to work. Fair trading next.

**EDIT** the oil came from a failed harmonic balancer. Mechanic told me it could be consistent with the engine being dropped(at Brian Hilton possibly). He put a new balancer on but found the crank shaft damaged. Another 2 months in the shop and I now have a new engine in the car.

Big white elephant – Overall cheap to run. Good luck on getting dealer and manufacturer back up on warranty issues near impossible. Had the wrong car delivered 3 times. Took 6 months and threatened court action to resolve. This vehicle has only 30000 klms on the clock 2016 model. At the moment interior grab handles are melting with the summer heat and renault… Read more

dealer have implied I am responsible for this. Booking a service is a farce as they have a 6 week wait at the moment here in Brisbane south. Sliding door has dropped and the dealer has told me to stop using it so mutch. It must only be for decoration . A $45000.00 lemon. Thoroughly disgusted with the dealers and Renault Australia.
