DC25 is Utter Rubbish – We bought a Dyson DC25 a number of years ago and our house is predominately floor boards with a quite a few rugs. After paying roughly $700 at the time for the DC25 Upright we were confident of getting many years of use of our expensive cleaner unfortunately this has not been the case despite its minimal use. Whilst the motor is still working… Read more

perfectly the roller head has an intermittent fault where you have to turn the cleaner off and on multiple times for it to spin constantly (sometimes this will take up to 15-20 starts to have it spin constantly). Usually it will spin for a few seconds then stop. We have cleaned the rollers and cleared it of any obstructions such as hair tied round the rollers etc and it still refuses to run. Dyson support are next to useless as you cannot get spare parts for the thing so were stuck with an expensive doorstop. Just looking at the reviews for the other Dyson uprights it seems the problem isnt unique to our model as it affects the progressive updated models. ** Will NEVER purchase another Dyson **

Loved this vacuum cleaner, but wish uprights had retractable cords! – I have been very happy with this vacuum cleaner, apart from two issues: 1) It would be very helpful if the cord was retractable. I find that winding the cord on, puts everyone off doing any vacuuming until it’s absolutely unavoidable! 2) Using the extension for cobwebs etc. is a real hassle. Unfortunately, it also resulted in my support worker… Read more

breaking my vacuum cleaner in two, recently! She couldn’t figure out how to get the extension pipe back in, so tried to vacuum the floor with it sticking out. But, the vacuum relies on that pipe for strength, so when she tried to tilt it back, the frame broke in half!

I’m hoping that her companies insurance will replace the vacuum cleaner for me, but I’m very concerned by the fact that the newer Dysons don’t seem to be as good as the old ones, esp, on ease of use. One thing I loved about the DC25, is that it was so easy to empty, with minimal mess. I’d just click it open over my wheelie bin, shake out the dirt, and then press the base against the ground to close it again. Perfect! But, all the reviews I’ve read say that the current models are very messy to empty, so it sounds like they have changed the mechanism, which is a real pity!

Short Lifespan for Expensive Machine – My wife and I received the Dyson DC25 Vacuum as a house warming gift less than 4 years ago, when it worked it worked well. Unfortunately the machine has since stopped working properly and has become essentially useless for day to day normal use which, according to many reviews I see online, is typical of this machine. It is extremely… Read more

unreasonable for the lifespan of a $400 odd vacuum to be as short as 3-4 years, our previously owned machine cost a mere $160 and lasted us more than 6 years before we replaced it with this Dyson and it was still in great working order when we did so.

I have contacted Dyson who were very quick to respond however seem to find it reasonable to ask that I pay a nearly $100 service fee (plus the cost of parts) to make repairs to their defective design simply because it is no longer covered by the manufacturers warranty. There is clearly no consumer guarantee covering defective parts in this machine and I do not recommend buying a vacuum with such a short lifespan.

When asked if the company believes that 4 years is a reasonable lifespan for their product the query was avoided and no direct answer given. It is clear that Dyson know their machine will not stand the test of time and offer servicing for a fee to ensure they do not incur costs for repairing their inferior designed vacuum.

I do not recommend Dyson vacuums because they are far too expensive with the limitations they have in terms of life expectancy. If you wish to extend the life of the vacuum fornpossibly another 4 years expect to pay between $85 and $150 while going without a vacuum ad it is being serviced.

Sincerely,

Dale Eyles

It just keeeps on going, even though it's used almost daily – We have a four bedroomed House, with a Cocker Spaniel as well as two slow combustion wood fires. I'm guessing but we purchased it very early-on in about 2009. I'm not the cleanest person when it comes to working in the garden or shed and then entering the house and on numerous occasions have got a tongue lashing from my wife of 53 years.… Read more

However, the Dyson DC25 has saved the day (for me). I don't very often use the DC25, that seems to be in the domain of my wife and daughter, but when I do, I can say it's a great improvement on any other cleaner we've had during those years. It's so good, that to compare it with any other, and we've had every type known to mankind, it's very unfair, because it out-performs anything else by a mile. So why didn't I give it five stars..? Well the hose extension although very strong, is perhaps too strong and difficult, my wife finds it so difficult, even to extend it from its housing. My daughter finds that part easy, but hates how ridged the hose is and finds it hard to use. Of course I'm much the same. I find replacing the hose and tube quite easy, my wife can't do it at all.

As an addendum, perhaps I should say we've both been using a Dyson DC34 Animal hand-held for just as long and now we've just got a new V6 Cordless, to hang on the wall. This will make it that we are covered for all contingencies.

Dyson DC25 upright – i absolutely love this machine and cannot live in my place without it and it makes cleaning that much easier when you got it all from every day airborne dust and of course pet hair and even sand in your carpet fibers and fine dust on those things like electronics and computers even etc

Bought in 2008, still working! – I did pay a huge sum of money to buy it back then but it is still going strong, so I am happy. Performance is still pretty good. Suction is good. Best vacuum cleaner I've ever owned – I was sceptical with Dyson vacuums at first, thought they were overpriced, but since buying mine on special I have found they are worth their money. Never thought I had so much dust and dirt in my carpets until I bought a Dyson, the suction is fantastic and you can see what you have vacuumed up - including the toys and jewellery! Love it. Definitely recommend a Dyson upright to anyone.  Show details

DISAPPOINTED – the upright was fine for a while; but after four years of normal use, it has lost suction power and the brush does not turn, therefore not picking up dirt and dust from carpet areas and barely working on tiles. Hmmmm – So I was sold this machine on the basis that it would do all floors and clean up after pet hair which is of most importance because of my children. skirting boards auction stops completely. I have to literally take the filter out of the ball and put it back in, start the machine again and it's good to go with the crappy suction.

I spoke to a customer service rep who booked it in for a service, MEANING I have to send it away for a considerable amount of time and in the family home that's ridiculous! Still awaiting a box to send the machine back in and that was a week and a half ago. This is unprofessional, why pay top dollar for a product that is going to brake down just after warranty.

I find it funny that this model is now obsolete too and why after we make you billions of dollars, why must you stop caring when all fails.

The previous model I owned we had for 10 years. Why don't you make them like you used to? After reading your reviews I feel as though fair trading should know about the scam that you trying to pull over everyone's eyes. If your products were so reliable and durable as ur advertising states over the phone, why not a replacement? I am not the only one with my issues. This piece of technology is LITERALLY the most important aspect of having a home and a family, so you take customers money and sell them faulty equipment.

Hose attachment needs a wheel lock mechanism – We bought this to replace an old barrel vacuum and while powerful the wand attachment is cumbersome and annoying to use making corner work impossible. someone to hold the upright (as it doesn't have a wheel lock) in place to use the hose as it is so tight it tips the cleaner over. Totally put me off Dyson we hardly used it because of this seriously lacking feature and it no longer gets used at all. We use the Bosch Blue 18v cordless vacuum, not really what it's designed for as it's a tradesman's cleanup tool but is far less trouble than the DC25. Shame we had to spend so much money on the Dyson to find this major flaw.

This Dyson is a great advert for Hoover – It’s excruciatingly heavy (I am a 6ft, 90kg male); to use the ‘trip’ mechanism you use to drop it into floor mode you need a degree in astrophysics and the physical coordination of an Olympic gymnast; the hose for the wand extension is so strong the damn machine follows you around like a love sick puppy, eventually ‘goosing’ you with its pointed… Read more

top; the brush head you use to clean skirting boards, etc., actually filters out the fluff, trapping it in the brush hairs and eventually blocking the whole thing; it is so noisy one should really wear ear-defenders - hey! don’t buy a Dyson! Get a Hoover Lark and save yourself money and a bucket of annoyance. (Good points? Oh, yeah - it can suck the skin off a granite boulder, but if you are not careful it can practically ingest a small rug; it needs variable suction, FCS! And (grudgingly) it is brilliant at doing upholstery - but watch out for that stupidly strong extendable hose … it’s steadily pulling the Dyson up to goose you…)

A lemon – Machine works well BUT it has been repaired 4 times under warranty. I have a medium sized house and have used the machine also to vacuum the car interior once. suction from vac to hose broke when I reinserted the wand. It was repaired and when returned the wand could not be reinserted into the handle because the repair had not been done correctly. It was immediately reinserted to the packaging and returned. 7 months later the machine would not turn on and was returned for a faulty power switch. On the 4th repair request I expressed my displeasure as I felt I had a "lemon" and requested a new replacement but this was refused. A representative of the Dyson repair centre telephoned after they received the machine and said the blown motor had occurred due to a blocked duct. This was not so as I had checked all ducts and the machine had no loss of suction prior to it failing. Regarding the broken cam she also accused me of reinserting the wand with excessive force. This was completely untrue as I always use care with my appliances. I feel the machine will continue to be unreliable and fail after it is out of warranty and I will be left with a product I will not repair. I will never purchase any other Dyson product.

Nothing but trouble with this machine! – We purchased the machine new in August 2011 from Harvey Norman and we took out the extended product care warranty, for a total cost of $728. We have two carpeted rooms and a few loose mats in our home; therefore the machine gets very little use. In February 2013 the rotating brush head would not rotate. We were told to package up the machine… Read more

and send it to a South Australian service centre (we live in South Australia). A few days later we were told to send the machine to a Western Australia service centre. The freight was at no cost to me. The machine came back repaired under warranty with a new brush head. We were told that the head was clogged up with hair. This could not have been the case as we always kept the head clean and furthermore it left our home clear of any hair.

In October 2015 the machine would run for a short while and then cut out and would not restart for some time. The machine was sent to the South Australian service centre. The freight was at no cost to me. The machine came back repaired under warranty with new filters. We were told the machine had been overheating owing to clogged filters. This could not have been the case as we would wash the filters often and keep them clean.

In December 2015 the red foot lever at the rear of the machine, at the bottom of the machine broke from its pivot point. The machine was sent to the South Australian service centre, but this time I had to pay for the freight, for some reason. The machine came back repaired under warranty with a number of parts having been replaced.

Two nights ago the machine broke again. This time a plastic lever, adjacent to the rotating ball had broken from its pivot point. The rotating ball will not work properly. The machine is still under warranty. I will contact Dyson today to express my dissatisfaction with their product.

Each time the machine has not been operational we have been inconvenienced by not having a machine to clean our home. Plus the time and effort to make warranty claims and to package up the machine.

We have had enough of our Dyson vacuum cleaner! Never again will we buy a Dyson product.

Great on carpet, average on hard floors, cumbersome with hose/wand – This model is absolutely fantastic on carpet with the original head and ball technology. hardwood floor down after using the normal head and there was still dust and dirt.

But there is a major design flaw with using such a large head as an attachment - the stretchy plastic 'hose' that is used to connect the wand did not remain extended (it didn't 'lock' in any way when you pull it out) and therefore pulled the whole vacuum cleaner with it (which strains the shoulders and back!) because of the suction power. Therefore we have to literally pick up the vaccum cleaner at times when using the attachment! What Dyson should have done was make the additional large head to also attach near the ball so that you could swap out the default head. Missed the mark with that one.

No good! – The tubing at the back end of the wand is inflexible, so when I stretch the wand to reach into places, the tubing pulls the machine towards me!
