Dyson quality has deteriorated over time - products now cheap and nasty – After having a DC25 for 15 years of flawless use, I purchased a Small Ball as the head of the DC25 was starting to crack. Dyson certainly has reduced the quality of their product. The Small Ball is both cheap and nasty, right down to the electrical cable which is made of cheap hard plastic which in the winter is as stiff as a board. The Small Ball… Read more

is plastic cheap and ineffective. I was forced to cut holes in the suction head to enable me to vacuum wool carpets as the suction made it impossible to move across the carpet. The handle locking device was cheap and ineffective requiring considerable force to lock the handle in the upright position. Finally after 3 year of normal household use, the motor in the head gave out and I was forced to bring out the DC25 from storage and start using that again.

Give it a miss – I bought this for my new small apartment. Well most expensive load of rubbish. It makes the noise of a jet engine and has the suck of a blow fish. Total waste of my limited funds. I have never had stress using a vacuum cleaner before. So disappointed. Show details

Doesn’t vacuum carpets – We bought this 2 weeks ago to replace our 10 yr old barrel. Worked lovely on our tiles, doesn’t get real close to edges tho. But when we tried to vacuum the carpets after a few seconds the heads would stop spinning. We reset it and they spin and then they stop. (What is vacuumed is done very well). I rang the help line to see if I was missing… Read more

a step and am told our carpets are not suitable for this machine . Our carpets are just run of the mill soft pile carpets. It was suggested I use our stick which I bought at same time - but considering it does 30 mins a time with smaller head and three hour charge it seems a ridiculous solution as I’ve 6 rooms with carpets and would barely get two done before charge is gone. The alternate solution, I was told by Dyson, was to return it to the store and get a refund. This means I will need to find a new brand that actually does carpets.

And a half star more – I've had my small ball for around 2 years and it has been almost perfect. I use it on carpet and hard floor (bye broom) and even tiles. The cord is super long which saves a lot of un/re plugging*. The handle extension means I can do webs and skirting easily. The tube can be resistant, but the trick is to pull it up from base before you start.… Read more

Plenty of tools are great for furniture, car and mattress too. I use mine 1-2 times a week. This area a bit dusty. Only downside is emptying when dust bunnies don't want to be binned. Fingers or satay stick req. I would recommend breaking it down (heads, dust tub, etc) and giving it a good clean every 6 months. Highly recommend this vac for small to medium dwelling. *Just bought V10, so no more cord. Small ball has cleaned up to 8/10 and ready for new owner. (pic)

Product is just "so so" BUT aftercare Services are GOOD – Background: The current Dyson DC 60 small ball allergy was a Replacement from Dyson in Oct 2011 because Dyson, via Australia Post has lost my previous. It was then a BATTLE to get Dyson to fix my then Dyson blew motor just 8 months out of Warranty. I had written in this Product Review. Issues: The current Dyson DC 60 is just 39 months old, the… Read more ·  1

outlet corded split that exposed the 3 wires. Because I purchased extended Warranty to 5 years, the repaired was at no additional cost. Outcome of Repairs: Very Very impressed with the Services. Dyson honoured the Warranty which replaced the cord, in addition, the Service Dept also replaced the dust bin, hose, pre-filter, filter and the quite "worn-out" floor head. Very satified with the Services. Though it is a BIG BIG BIG BIG shame, that Dyson no longer produce corded upright cleaner. Buying a cordless is financially uneconomical and useless, given battery duration lasts 60 min Max and it costs over $1000. I am an over 20 years Dyson loyal and aged customer, I would need to purchase other brand such as Shark when my current Dyson end its life.

Product great. Customer service terrible – So our small ball has worked like a horse without issue for two days shy of two years. Then part of the plastic skeleton snapped and luckily we had two days left of warranty to organise a repair (talk about lucky). Organising this repair has been insanely tedious however and we are still in the process. At least 5 phone calls of trying to explain… Read more

the broken part (it doesn't fall under A, B, C, or D etc of the manual), being told to expect an email or call back and never getting it. Finally yesterday someone figured out they had the wrong model registered, and said to expect a shipping label via email. As always, we've received nothing and will have to call up AGAIN. It's been about two weeks since the vacuum broke, and owning three cats you can imagine how much we are needing this vacuum fixed. This isn't the kind of customer service you expect from a $599 product.

Do not rely on Dyson to ever get back to you, because so far it's all been us following up with them. What a shame given the vacuum itself is very efficient. No complaints about it at all really.

Pretty good but not great for my back! – I've had this vacuum cleaner for 11 months now and the performance is incredible. I did a full vacuum of my house with my old vacuum cleaner (a Hoover) before purchasing it, and then I vacuumed the same day with my new one (because I couldn't wait to try it!). It picked up 2 full 'loads' of dust that my previous vacuum had missed! It is really… Read more

effective on carpet, tiles and wood and you never have to go over a spot twice. It does pretty well going along edges and is super easy to empty and clean. It works as well now (after 11 months) as when I first bought it. My only real issues are that it's quite heavy and I find that my back gets sore after a full vacuum. Also it is is hopeless to use to vacuum the car etc because the flexible hose thing is not long enough. And it's quite hard to detach the flexible hose to get into small corners (not like my previous vacuum where you just pull the 'head' off and can use the tube). Next time I would buy a barrel vacuum so it's lighter and easier for hard to reach places. But I'd still definitely buy a Dyson and would recommend this if you like an upright model.

It’s good...but – Excellent suction. A few minor things stick out such as it’s heavy to lug around and does not vacuum things like bath mats and throw rugs. Excellent for hair and dust but not so good for crumbs and small debris as it tends to spit it out. Overall I am pretty happy but I don’t think I would get by if this was my only vacuum and I didn’t have a cordless as well Show details

Does not work on rugs – I bought this product almost two years ago. I lived in an place with wooden floors and one carpeted room. It worked fine on the hard floors. On the carpet it was a little difficult to drag across. I was not impressed with the product but since it was expensive I did not want to replace it. I moved and now I have rugs, both short and long pile.… Read more

The vacuum does not work on the rugs it gets stuck and picks up hardly any dirt. To top it off the brush head broke short of two years use. Dyson will replace the broken part.

I will try and sell this vacuum to go back to Nilfisk, a product that worked very well for many years on any floor. This product is not worth a quarter of the price it is sold for.

Cleans well; short life; expensive – Purchased July 2017 and now not working - effective but a lot of money for only 2.5 years. Support great but feel like I'm throwing good money after bad for repairs. I'm feeling cheated by the short lifespan. I would expect a lifespan of 5-10 years from a company that bills itself as innovative designers. Show details

Was so excited to buy my first Dyson, but it was a huge disappointment – I have always loved Dyson, my Mum had an incredible vacuum for years from them. I purchased mine at the end of 2016 from Harvey Norman when I moved into my own apartment and it has been a nightmare. The brush head just stops working for no apparent reason (my carpet isn’t thick) and I am constantly having to clean the hoses because they become… Read more

congested very quickly.

I wish I could put it down to over-use but the truth is that this vacuum is so useless that I had to buy a $200 Hover stick vac and that has done a way better job. Unfortunately I can’t afford to blow $500 on another Dyson vacuum if it won’t work. So bummed out because I was so excited to get it.

On a positive note - The Dyson Hot+Cool and Supersonic hairdryer are absolutely amazing. I still love Dyson but the Small Ball was such a mistake purchase.

dissapointing and a waste of money – The Vacuum does have great suction and thats about where it ends. For carpet in an open area in upright mode its awesome but wont fit under anything to clean without additional attachments which are very awkward to use. I purchased the hard floor tool to use on the wand as the exhaust when in upright mode just blows any dirt away on a hard floor… Read more

and it takes me 3 times longer than a broom! Its very clunky using it with the wand and the cord gets in the way. The power head does not glide over any large particles like cereal / rice etc but rather pushes them ahead of the bar and really only picks up small particles like dust. Overall I find this cleaner heavy and clunky to use over dyson barrell cleaners and even the full size upright is easier to use. I would never purchase another dyson as the brand isnt the quality it used to be.

Bought a Dyson Small Ball Vaccum - Overly hyped and poor performance – Bought a Dyson Small Ball Vacuum, which has a design fault, for some ridiculous reason the blower is on the bottom. It exhausts air from that vent which blows the hair and dust before the head gets to it to pick up. I then spend about two weeks to try to solve and get a refund or upgrade to a different model but it was a total waste of time,… Read more

horrible customer service. The money they spend interacting if put aside could have solved the issue. I also have another handheld vacuum, which also conked after two years.

Dyson as a brand is crap now, first very expensive products so please don't be sold on the brand. The customer service is also hopeless if you get into difficulty. Spare parts are very expensive.. I have been with them for over 15 years but today, 'I say no more Dyson for me.' Stay away.. Honest feedback and buy some better-rated products.

Major problem in machine parts – I bought dyson's small ball multi floor from bing lee. The suction is very good but the problem is that the brush has broken twice during the warranty period. am still under warranty and the head has broken for the second time. I called customer service for another time and they offered to send another head But what happens after the warranty is expired? what is the solution? Its a fault in the machine. After the warranty i have to pay the price of the head each time its broken which shouldn't even be a problem in the first place as i originally bought a dyson machine given its reputation. Id like a more feasible solution to this issue. If the product is not multifloor then it shouldnt be advertised as such. Thanks. - Mervat

Purchased on sale: overall satisfied – I was lucky enough to get the small ball allergy on sale at harvey norman. For the purchase price i am very happy. It works amazingly well on carpets - especially with dog hair. However, while effective on the floor boards it can be frustrating as it blows dog hair all over the place. That could be user error though. Im still figuring it out. Show details

If you’ve got a dog, you’ve gotta get a Dyson! – My old vacuum was not picking up all the dog hair. Having 2 border collies I needed something more powerful. Not easy to empty – This is my second Dyson, but first upright. Whilst the suction hardwood floors is adequate, I most often find the debris being blown away rather than sucked up. As for cleaning the barrel, I love that the Dyson youtube tutorial shows how simple it works when emptying the barrel of rice. Of course, rice is heavy and will naturally fall out. Even… Read more

when the barrel has only 1 days' worth of carpet fluff and other debris, I have to get my hands in to pull it out. This sends dust into the air and I end up with it on the floor, all over my clothes, and in my lungs. I wouldn't buy this model if you think it's going to be easy to empty.

Worst vacuum I have owned – Bought this item due to the good reputation of Dyson, and was sorely disappointed. The feel of the vacuum cleaner is best described as awkward and stiff. The suction was surprisingly poor. The craftsmanship felt cheap and plastic- parts were awkward to re-attach and felt very flimsy. This is just my opinion, but I was very disappointed!  Show details

Highly Recommend – The suction on this small model is amazing, and I like how you can slide it to maximum suction on occasions when needed. Very easy to manoeuvre. The cleaning bin can be fully removed from any inner parts, allowing the bin to be completely cleaned, then just clicks back into place.  Show details

Great vacuum, strange unergonomic design for the handheld extension – The vacuum strength is fantastic, the filter only needs to be washed occasionally with warm water and dries quickly. it's completely bagless which is fantastic and the machine runs perfectly, fitting into the crevices well for an upright vacuum. accidentally press and the vacuum begins suction from the top of the machine (which can give you a fright at times). Also, the handle is very long and the piping too short to comfortably fit into small areas without dragging the machine along reluctantly.

I'm still glad I bought it, mainly because we're used to how it operates now.

Can’t clean “new carpet” – I bought this cleaner based on Dyson’s reputation and the fact I have differing floor surfaces. It worked very well on my tiled floor, but when moving onto carpet the spinning brush always stopped. Called Dyson support only to be told that the problem was that my carpet was “too new”. I mean, really?? Don’t you buy a new vacuum to help keep your new carpet clean and longer lasting? Had to return it for a refund after 4 days.  Show details

Works well and very compact – It works well on carpets, shaggy rugs and Matt’s. I like how it pulls up the carpet into the bristled head removing and good amount of dirt. unblock as they have made a simple detachable head that can be quickly removed to gain access to hair ties or clumps of hair I feel it works well on the hard floors too and has no issues transferring from hard floors to carpet. dyson small ball is that if you have dust in front of the head - the dust would be pushed to the side and not sucked under.
