Electrolux EDV505 / EDV605 / EDV605S Sensor Vented Reviews

Electrolux Clothes Dryers
4.2 from 22 reviews
Pros: Seemed to be good value except that is being eroded by shirt damage
Cons: Cutting my shirts...maybe?
Overall: Generally this machine has worked well and haven't had any operational problems although can leave clothes slightly damp under the normal dry run. (i.e. there is 'iron dry' and 'extra dry' options).

But the thing is it seems to be cutting the collars of my shirt and I just do not know why. It's possible it's the washing machine (also Electrolux Silencer 8kg) but the problems started when we bought the new dryer. The strange thing is that I actually had the first ED605 replaced (which David Jones were excellent about) but I just keep on having this problem.

Given the first machine was replaced because of my complaint about this, for it to happen again would seem to be a systematic problem and I cannot find any other similar complaints on the web about this.

It's also possible that something IN the wash is causing the problem but it is such a strangle place for the cuts - always on the very point of the collar suggesting it gets in a crevice withing the machine as it spins and just gets cut as the barrel rotates.

So the question is - does anyone else have this problem?

Pros: Dries very efficiently and is very quiet
Cons: Proven to be very unreliable. Electrolux Customer Care refuses to replace or refund, only to repeatedly repair.
Overall: After first turning on the machine and doing our first load, we were very impressed with how well it dried and how quiet it was.
And then the machine broke down - twice. Requiring first a new belt and 2 weeks later, a new fan. We have only owned the dryer 46 days.
With a young family of 3 boys all under 6, we need a robust dryer that is well built and reliable. This machine is neither.

Pros: Looks good and reasonable quiet. Produces little lint so must be a fairly gentle tumble action.
Cons: Sensor dry function ineffective.
Overall: We chose a sensor dryer because that what we've had in the past. The Electrolux looks good and is quiet. Unfortunately it's not effective as a sensor dryer -- clothes are still damp when it switches off. This is so even when carefully sorting different weights of fabric. Never had this problem with the previous brand -- they were dry when the machine switched off.

So now we're using the Electrolux as a semi-auto dryer. Start it on the 'very dry' sensor cycle then finish off with 30 minutes manual dry to actually dry the clothes. We needn't have spent an extra $150 to get the sensor function. Could have got the same result from a $300 manual dryer. In hindsight we should have bought the Fisher & Paykel.

Pros: Dries the clothes
Cons: Clunky and VERY noisy door lock
Overall: Bought the 5kg dryer 2 weeks ago. Large enough to put in Queen size sheet set.

It's ok I guess - dries the clothes but I can not stand the noise it makes when you have to push the button in to lock/start the dryer.
Same for when you have to open the door after drying. SO clunky and seriously noisy.
I feel like I have to force it both ways and that the door might break off! This is fine for a cheap dryer but this was not.

The venting system at the front works well - I am in an apartment, and so just leave the laundry door open while it's on.
So far I have only used the "sensor" option - worked well, but a couple of hand towels needed to go back in for a few more minutes to completely dry.

If I could choose again, for the $400, I'd get the F&P instead.

Pros: Easy to use. Mid-range price. Energy efficient. Easy to clean filter
Cons: Have to make sure clothes are dry. Sometimes I have to hang my clothes on a clothes horse/airer.
Overall: Great dryer. Drys clothes in a quarter of the time my old Hoover use to take. Love the fact it have child lock on the button controls. Doesn't fill the laundry with dust or too much moisture, I have had it for a couple of weeks now and I have noticed a big drop in our electricity usage (pre paid power). Filter is easy to get to, and very easy to empty. When I tell people my dryer cost $385, they say That was expensive, but after reading other reviews on here I think I made a really good choice. You get what you pay for at the end of the day. I would prefer to pay a little more and get a mid-range item that will last a little while, than buy a really cheap item and have to constantly get it fixed or have it brake down just after the warranty runs out.

Pros: Reliable, efficient, quick, big barrel so plenty of space
Cons: Bit expensive
Overall: I've had this dryer for 2 months now, and use it every day! I'm one of those lazy people who don't use their clothes line (2 kids 12 months apart = Too much washing to hang out, and lack of time!) This dryer is awesome. Couldn't live with out it now. It also seems to be very efficient.
