Shoddy door hinge and constant condensation – We have had our fridge for quite a few years and we have had issues with condensation and leaking. It was a replacement for a similar.model which was discontinued (think it was a dud). The door fell off this model because the plastic hinge completely broke. We did a temporary fix but it's not sealing properly. They need to use stronger parts as a… Read more

fridge this costly should last for 20 years. It also has a crack in the plastic lining which happened long ago.

Sad specimen. I hope they do better now – The fridge is well out of warranty, and has not skipped a beat with running. But the door! The door hinge is like it has been designed to fail! Plastic on plastic has worn down to the point that the fridge seal is almost not covering the opening of the fridge itself. I am a bit disappointed that I never visited this site before now. The dairy… Read more

door had broken while I was away, and I'd smiled and nodded when the house sitters said they don't know what could have done it. I am now profusely apologising to them and inviting them over to say hello to the replacement fridge (of an entirely different brand).

poor design - door never reliably shuts – I purchased this fridge after recommendation by retailer and have been very dissapointed. The fridge door does not close positively enough so even with care I will come back to the fridge later and find the fridge or freezer door slightly ajar and all the food inside potentially at risk and the fridge motor working overtime to try and keep the… Read more

temperature stable. This has been a problem ever since purchase 2 and a half years ago. I have not written before as I only came to this site now to look for a fridge for another location.

dissapointing – I have had this fridge about 3 yrs now. IT was not cheap! The front has fallen off a a crisper drawer... But worse still the lining the lining on the inside of the fridge is cracking and looks really unhygenic and unsightly and I presume this unfixable. Will never buy an elctroolux product again, inferior plastic used. Not HAPPY JAN!  Show details

Dairy Door Broke – I wrote a 5 star review when I originally got it but yes the Dairy Door broke and its a ridiculous $61 to replace; http://spares.bigwarehouse.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=64689_78476_78878&&products_id=1595639 There must be a fault issue here. There is a constancy of voices on this forum mentioning this as an issue. Please rectify as soon as possible.

Poorly made plastics – I agree with others, the dairy door, if you accidently hit it with your hand when closing, cracks at the plastic hinge, when I say hit, I mean a touch above touching it, its rubbish. The bottom shelf in the door, is too low to accomdate 2 Litre bottles, and you cant adjust it.This fridge looks good, however, until you own one, you realise I should… Read more

Absolute Lemon!!! Designed for Landfill!! Do NOT Buy this Fridge!!! – Absolute lemon is a generous term to describe this refrigerator!! Regrettably was compelled to replace my less than decade old Kelvinator ('not a day's trouble' until a critical internal moulded body panel failed in the freezer compartment and was criminally deemed no longer available). Replacement Electrolux ETM5200SC Unit was recommended by… Read more

online retailer and comparative article authored by a product review peak body.

Literally within days of purchase (ironically to replace an earlier smaller sized variant in the model range) the fridge started emitting extremely loud noises (virtually sounded like a rotary minus a muffler) - technician attended - no idea what the problem might be - owner goggled the issue and discovered from other existing owners of the ETM5200SC that the mounting screws securing the rear central fan in the freezer compartment were often inadequately tightened during manufacture causing the audio ruckus - sure enough the attending completely clueless Electrolux technician (H201) re-tightened the screws and the loud noise abated.

Purchased the refrigerator in June 2013 - April 2014 overt corrosion (rust) started appearing in multiple locations on the lower main brushed 'Chinese chrome' door surface of the fridge unit - authorised Electrolux technician attended - confirmed that door was indeed rusting and that both doors would need to be replaced (proposed reusing existing rubber door seals - promptly declined that offer and insisted that new door seals be concurrently employed when replacing both doors). Doors eventually replaced but not without the original attending technician (positively awful specimen of humanity) damaging (extensively scratching) the wood floor area directly in front of the refrigerator!!

Over the past weekend multiple parallel vertical striated fissures (frank cracking) of the lower moulded plastic body panel literally appeared overnight within the freezer compartment - ?!defective plastic unable to cope with temperature extremes (freezer compartment was categorically not exposed to any accidental forceful trauma or excessive load - freezer compartment due to inappropriate location of air outlets is typically underutilized). Subsequently approached Electrolux Customer Service (were characteristically overly aggressive, dismissive and brusque in their response) - was told the refrigerator unit was out of warranty (unit was initially purchased on 13 June, 2013 - fault was reported 22 June, 2015) but as an 'act of grace' would have an attending Electrolux technician attend on a pro bono basis to formally assess any basis for claim (need to remind Electrolux under the provisions of the nationally mandated Australian Consumer Law (2011) that an appliance's warranty is not restricted to a manufacturer's specified timeframe - alternatively warranty provisions extend to what is considered a reasonable lifespan that can expected for that particular appliance).

To compound the above service history to date for the ETM5200SC the unit is extremely poor in overall design - rear central lighting strip in refrigerator section of unit is easily occluded by items placed on the multiple shelving platforms decreasing illumination markedly within the greater refrigerator compartment. Location of rear mounted air outlets in freezer section severely limit the amount of practical space in the freezer compartment that can be readily used. Additionally food placed in the refrigerator section of unit has a tendency to freeze depending where the item is placed within the refrigerated section of the fridge (see other owner's commentary on the issue).

The repeated stress of having to cope with multiple defects inherent to operation of this refrigerator whilst battling a terminal medical condition is really exhausting, demoralizing and on further reflection morally repugnant and despicable!!

Electrolux should do the right thing and issue a conditional recall on these fundamentally and foundationally flawed units!!

Shame on you Electrolux for marketing such poorly conceived inferior mass produced junk!!!

If a job is worth doing, do it properly!! – I am annoyed..... I am very careful, but this is the second time it has happened the 'DAIRY DOOR COMPARTMENT' the hinge thing broke off, a poor design, it isn't strong enough, why should I have to pay for another one.....should have been made properly in the first place!!

Disappointed – This fridge is great when it is empty. The light is at the back so when you have things (e.g. food) inside, the light is blocked. The crisper drawers are deep and what is stored is in layers so you have to pull everything out to get to the bottom stuff. Unlike other reviewers, nothing has broken so far...

Dairy door breaks – When the main door of the fridge is opened, the dairy door flies off out of the fridge and breaks at the hinges. I range the service number and the person who answered has never heard of this happening- despite numerous customers complaining of the same problem on this site! I declined to purchase another cover because it will just break again. … Read more

It is very disappointing. It is a design fault and I think Electrolux should supply another cover that does not break!

Extremely disappointed – We purchased this fridge several months ago after very careful research. Primarily we chose it because it was Australian made and the energy efficiency was superior to any other fridge of its kind on the market. However, we have been extremely disappointed with the quality of the interior plastic components which fit poorly, drop out of the fridge… Read more

and consequently crack and the way the door dents so easily. There are three dents in the door which appeared within weeks of owning the fridge and seem to have appeared out of nowhere. As I don't have young children, I can't explain how they even got there. The first time the damage to the plastics occurred, I opened the door and one of the covers for the cheese compartment fell off, dropped to the floor and cracked. I was upset but assumed that maybe it hadn't been fitted properly in the first place. Several weeks later, the exact same thing happened to the other cover. By now I was extremely annoyed and left wondering why my brand new fridge was so poorly made. To cap it all off, I went to empty the ice into the tray and discovered that the ice tray was also cracked. This was the catalyst for writing this review! This quality is not what you would expect for a fridge in the $2000 price range. I look after my appliances very well and this particular fridge replaced a 20 year old Westinghouse fridge which was in extremely good condition without a dent on it and it had survived five Removalist vans and young children! I am now in the market for a second fridge but won't be looking at anything with Electrolux or Westinghouse on the label. Great energy rating, Australian made Door dents VERY easily, cheap plastic components that fit loosely and crack

Breaking dairy doors – Fridge is great but the dairy door breaks at the hinge ...occurred 5 times in 2 years...Not happy. Clearly there is a fault in manufacture of design. This problem occurs no matter how careful you are. It cost $50 to replace each time. I cannot recommend Electrolux to any one...I suggest you try Fischer & Paykel.

Worse Fridge for Noise so forget about the 4 star rating – I purchased this fridge (Dec2012). Alert!! Don't buy it! when running it is Loud. I contacted Electrolux HQ whereby the front desk came out with a script of stock stand BS tactics to get rid of me. I am an electrical technician and even I was hoodwinked by this model. My advice is stay 100miles away from it no matter what deal is on because the… Read more

Nice – We got this fridge about a month ago. After a week we started noticing the noise coming from the freezer section. Pretty noticeable, really. Even with TV on 10 m away. The 16 year older fridge that was replaced made less noise. After wondering for some time if the noise was natural or some issue we contact Electrolux agent. was a lose plastic next… Read more

to the fan that would vibrate and make the noise. This was fixed and now the fridge is working very well.

Also as a minor aspect, the light bulb went off after 10 days but it seems that as a perishable Electrolux has a restricted warranty of only 7 days for light bulbs; The guys at Bing Lee offer to get the light bulb for us and do the change at no cost to us. Space, energy efficiency

Excellent – Easy to keep clean inside and the stainless steel has special coating to reduce finger prints. Love the door handles as they are they don't collect built-up grime.
