Good for defined rooms only – We got ours secondhand after minimal use by first owner. Seems to work great. We just would have it in a smaller room if we could. We bought a kogan also to combine cool our openended rental house. In our big freaking hot room area we put a plastic lid visor thing over top to try and direct airflow onto us a little before it immediately wafts… Read more
into ceiling.
Its a bit bulky and oddly shaped so doesnt fit cosily anywhere. (Found out that portables need approx 1metre of space because of hose).
But as stand alone would be aesthetically fine.
We have emptied it once. Was a warning msg on screen. (It kept running though). Husband i lifted onto bench. Apparently it says could be 500ml come out we barely got 100ml. Its pretty light for its size but i did ponder if i was frail person how realistic the process of draining tray would be.
The vent size on ours isnt fully open on the inside we can see that one side in particular has the foam covering approx 2inches which means air coming out is not as we would predict.
Is great for a smaller or contained room.
Survived the summer – Knocked a star off because of the noise/dry vacuum feeling, but it can become white noise after a while (to block out neighbours' parties/flight path). I am not good at assembling, but had no problems with my (sash) window and I didn't remove or have to cut the flyscreen either. I used electrical tape and cardboard for the gaps. I move the unit… Read more
from room to room and shut the door to keep a cool temp. Sometimes I can't be bothered moving it and am still able to cool my entire bedroom/kitchen/living (small 1 bedder) to a reasonable temp, and this is with the PIU 12. Door snakes help and overhead ceiling fans improve performance. It really does cool on a hot day- especially a single room. It means I can stay home or do work in the evenings without escaping to a library or my car or a shopping centre for heat relief.
It doesn't take too long to cool a room either. I have a shower (door closed), go back in my bedroom and it is already very cool - even when the walls are still warm to the touch from those 40 degree days. I had been warned off portable a/cs because of their inefficiency and failure to work, and I now regret not buying one years ago. Yes, I would rather a split system or window unit, but these options are not possible for most renters. The Olimpia got me to sleep and survive through this extremely hot Sydney summer. Electricity bills weren't too bad, and I occasionally kept it on all night. Warning: may not work easily on those wind out/push out windows. The other kinds of windows should be fine.
Works well and keeps me cool!!! – Purchased a 2nd hand PIU 12 unit from a friend recently and find it works really well in the small room I needed it for. I do find the hose somewhat restrictive ( the company says not to connect another to it) but its not a fan so doesn't need to blow air onto me so no biggie really. I did see one review where someone commented on the fact that… Read more
the air blows upwards as directed by a static vent...well of course...cold air drops so no point in being able to aim it low...bit of a 'duh' moment there!!
Don't find it uses too much power and even though we have RC Air con which my hubby doesn't like me using because it is a power gobbler I can still keep myself cool with this little unit.
Yes it is a little noisy but easy to tune out from (turn up the music ha ha) and I don't try to sleep with it so no problem for me there, but then that might be good to drown out the noisy neighbours and barking dogs.
Only other issue but not problem...how do people use them in old houses with wind-out windows - which is what we have in the rest of the house - plus security screens? Luckily I have a sliding window in the room I use it in, but that might be an issue for some folks especially renters. Installation was easy using the window attachments but although a little heavy and awkward on carpet I don't need to move it around. Slides easily enough on hard floors.
Do wonder though how you get the plug out to drain it...does it pull out or screw?? Its in very tight and we cant budge it either way...can anyone help us here please?
All in all an excellent little unit.....as they say "happy life happy wife!!!!" :) I would recommend it to family and friends and would happily buy another one. No point in cooling the whole house if you only need it in one room.
10 out of 10 for me!!

It has been going for donkeys years and is still just as good as the day we got it – We have a large bedroom and it cools that very quickly. Timer on the remote is a great feature as is the glow in the dark button. Easy to drain and clean filter, great buy. Only downside, it's very heavy and if you want a light easy to move aircon, this is probably not for you. Show details
Very reliable – I have had my unit about 5-6 years. This is the first time I’ve had any issues. I think these units are fantastic. I move the unit all around my house I really like theme Show details
Absolutely fantastic – We bought 3 of these in Nov 2012. All still going strong and are used every summer. Have never missed a beat. Easy to clean filters. Store away during winter and then click straight into gear as needed. Show details · 1

Have 3 different mobile A/C, the other 2 are great, had this a year and already this is the third time for F1 – It is used in summer only, and its been 3 times gone into this F1 mode. I had to leave it off for about a week for it to reset the last time. Show details
Broken within 24months – We have only used the unit a few times, but it has broken within 2 years. A lot of money for something that doesnt last. During operation it worked well in a small space, but poor in poor in larger spaces Show details
Disappointed – The window kit is woeful. I have a sliding door and the kit that comes with the unit isn't long enough. I purchased another window kit - very expensive - thinking I could drill them together. This didn't work. I then taped them together. The extension part of the kit also leaves a few mm gap so it will never sit flush. I then gave up and bought… Read more
something off Amazon to use as a seal. I then tried to use the window kit in the bedroom which has a short window. The extension kit was not suitable and I have had to plug to gap with cardboard. In terms of cooling, it takes the temp down about two degrees which is disappointing. I think the temp displayed is the room temp, but I can't find anything to confirm this online or in the manual. The fact that the vents can't be adjusted is a negative. If you have a sliding door then be prepared! I am baffled as to why it is so hard to find a kit to accommodate.

Inactive buttons – The right buttons (+ - ⏱️)seem inactive? I have a second hand unit with no remote Any suggestions? Thanks Show 2 replies
PIU 12 not blowing cold as it use to, resetting did not fix – Hi I have PIU 12, it was in storage for few months and once I turn it back on, it just blows normal air but not cold as it use to. I’ve tried resetting holding down power button for more than 5 seconds to no avail. Please help. Show reply
Plu 16 – The cooler is connected to power and on/off button has a red light but it doesn’t turn on When I disconnect and reconnect the power it shows 6h
Piu 12 air con – Hi everyone I bought this unit second hand and it was 7 yrs old and apparently still goes very well. I have no complaints other then a rotation vent would have been nice but I just sticky taped a cardboard flap to direct the air flow down and she is perfect.

Piu 16 - control panel buttons not working – I have a piu16. Tried to switch it on today after its winter hiberation. None of the buttons on the unit, including the power switch, are working. I have to use the remote to switch the device on and control it. Is the control panel broken or has it been disabled!

I only just got one with out manual – Do you add water In the eco plus silent model number 12 or not and if so where do you add the water just wondering because of the rain drop symbol on the little digital screen Show details
Excellent! – I previously had a delonghi 2.1w unit and found it slow to reach a cool temp and even when it was cool, it struggled in my 30sqm room. I got a piu16 for the extra BTU and it makes a massive difference. It takes about 5 Min before the condenser kicks in but once it does you get nice cold air belting out. I wouldnt say the unit is "quiet" because… Read more
it's an air conditioner and is meant to make noise but it's fine so maybe the other reviewer had a defective one. It's not something you could sleep with it on unless youre drunk or a heavy sleeper but that's expected unless you get a split system. The only thing this Ac lacks is adjustable fins but my delonghi didn't have them either. This unit is excellent and I highly recommend it particularly on a day like today where is 39 degrees in Sydney. Very happy with my unit. Not cheap but worth the money.
The best portable aircon – Got this second hand and wow it is amazing cools down our small apartment even on Melbourne’s 40 degree days works best if you put it on early but definitely saved us last summer highly recommend. Show details
Air conditioner – Very pleased with this air conditioner easy to install soon had working so nice @quiet have it auto also very well made a real quality product the manual is a little bafling all the languages still l would highly recommend this air conditioner stood quality italian design Show details
My Summertime best friend! – I have owned this portable air conditioner for 8 years now and it is just as good as the day I brought it home. It cools my lounge room very quickly and maintains that cool temperature even on the hottest of days. I have owned other portable aircons in the past and none come even close to this one. It's quiet, portable, fits in almost every space… Read more
and if taken care of will last you over a decade. Only one thing I would like to add, I would much prefer to be able to adjust the way the air flows. Other than that I would recommend this to everyone that's looking to buy a portable air conditioning unit.
Meets expectations, but too noisy in a small space – We had the PIU Cube 16 for just 24 hours before we returned it for a full refund as it was just too noisy in our small lounge room. The Good Guys explained to us that portable air conditioners are always noisy but that this model is in fact one of the most quiet to run. The baseline noise drowned out any TV volume so it may not be for everyone.… Read more
However, it worked perfectly in generating large amounts of ultra cooled air and was a welcome addition in the heat so I would recommend it if you had a larger space that might dampen the running noise.
Perfect for a small room – I have been using this air conditioner for around 5 years and still works perfect. It is a little bit noise but you get used it. I dont have complaints Show details
Too LOUD – No, too loud for me. False and misleading information on the description. When the unit is first turned on I was impressed with the noise level, just a mild humming noise, I thought great, yep, I can live/sleep with that. Low and behold after 3 minutes the unit kicks in and the noise coming from the machine is just like the rest of the portable air… Read more
cons "loud".I was advised that Olimpia has the quietest air cons on the market that is why I went with that brand. Even the wording on the packaging the unit comes in won me over. On the box it states SILENT. Returned the air con back to the good guys for a refund. Now, that is another review in itself and it is not a good one.

Satisfied – This air conditioning unit is fabulous for our bedroom. Does exactly what it is supposed to! It does well on it's highest setting and does well on the lowest setting to maintain the cool. Show details
Awesome friend in summers – This aircon makes the room cool in minutes. The size best fits the place and is suitable. It is very nicely designed and fulfils the needs. However, the back pipe needs the place to keep the warm air out. Show details
Awful – We’ve kept it on all day, sealed off a small area of room to survive the heat and it’s still sweltering in here. If you stand right in front of it, you feel a cool breeze (albeit weak at best on the highest fan setting) , if you move 1m away from it, you can easily sweat (32 outside 29 inside). Very disappointing to purchase the worst performing portable aircon I have ever owned. Please save yourself the disappointment, do not buy. Show details
Saved us in the heatwave - highly recommend this portable air con – We bought this from The GoodGuys in Ispwich. It is a compact, quiet, easy to assemble portable air conditioner that can be used in portable mode or permanently placedby have holes created in wlals and the hose fixed in a permanent position. It has been 35 - 39 degrees inside, however this portable air conditioner calls our loungerrom within 20… Read more
minutes making it a pleasant 22 degrees.
It has different modes which are easy to use and a remote control.
The model is quiet even in turbo mode.
Highly recommended
Perfect for small bedroom – My Evaporative cooler wasn't enough when the temperatures started reaching 44, 45 so my Son turned up this air conditioner. I am pleasantly suprised at how cool it gets my bedroom and how quiet it is.....compared to the evaporative cooler. It is light and easy to manouver and has more than enough exchaust pipe to reach my window. I live in a… Read more
very dry area so perhaps that is why I havent had to drain any water like other users. I do however agree that fixed vents which point up toward the ceiling are rather annoying, also no swing function, which is why I gave it four stars.
Barely adequate – Struggles to lower the temp of a 4m x 4.5m room more than a few degrees. (Makes no impression on a larger room.) Works only as a source of direct refrigerated air on the body - but even this requires modification as the air vent is un-adjustable and directed towards the ceiling (a piece of cardboard can be placed on top of the unit to direct the… Read more
air flow horizontally).
The 'window air conveyor outlet' connection to exhaust pipe is flimsy and liable to fall off when attempting to move the unit even slightly.
If you are offered one of these for nothing, it can help you to get to sleep by blowing cold air directly on to you (with assistance of a flattened cereal box). Noting that if it is set on the timer it will make a loud 'clunk' as it switches off which may wake you.
Olimpia Splendid Piu16 – Keeps the caravan cool and saves taking out a window to fit a box A/C. This is a refrigerated A/C (not evaporative) and it produces real cooling power with reasonable electricity use. The narrow air flow creates a good cycle of air around the room, as it's designed to do. It has wheels so it's easy to roll out of the way. The expandable hot air… Read more
exhaust tube is long enough when it's set up near a sliding sash or casement type window. Does not interfere with insect screening. To keep it running efficiently, use dish washing detergent to wash the air filter and then spray it with Glen20 (to stop bacterial growth). Get one and sleep well this summer. 3 Year warranty. Just brilliant.
Worth getting if you have no other options – This certainly does what it's supposed to which is cool a room. Bear in mind it isn't designed to cool large areas. I've only ever used it in a bedroom and it may take half an hour to an hour to get the room to cold but once it does it gets icy cold and stays that way. It can get a little loud on certain settings but if the choice is to sleep in a… Read more
40+ degree room that is quiet or a 20 degree room that is a little noisy, I'll take the latter.
Yes, it is heavy and awkward to move around, messing around with the window kit and filling gaps is annoying and it costs a lot to run, but if you have no other options to cool your place then this is still an excellent option to get through an Australian summer.
It's not perfect and the first one packed up on me – Got one of these for our small shead out the back. The first one lasted a week and had to be returned because it stopped blowing cold air. The second one has faired itself in the heat but at 40 degrees or fails big but when cooling lower temperatures it dose well. Show details
Just got my old friend out of storage! – This is my summer months friend! I love it because it keeps my bedroom icy cold during the hot months and that means sleep! Its not too noisy when its running. Actually, I quite like the white noise it makes. Kind of like being a kid asleep in the back of your parents station wagon (1970s) It works really well and even expels its own water outside - good machine! Show details
Great results with the PUI 16 – I did a LOT of research online and instore before getting this after very ordinary results with an Aldi machine previously. This really is one of the best ones available in Australia. Its not cheap but you get what you pay for. Really did a great job of making the hottest summer days bearable in out lounge - highly recommended! Show details
Good for a portable aircon – My son needed one of these in his bed room because there was no room for a split wall unit and we didn't have the amount of money at the time to get one. Even tho this is expensive it did the job last summer very well but the power is hogged a little by this aircon Show details
Best Choice Of The Portables – This little baby is small and compact but provide HUGE amounts of cool air and really saved the day over summer. for us. There are lots of cheaper models but mostly they are not all that effective - I have had lesser ones including the supposedly "good" Aldi model and I can tell you none of them come close to this one in terms of effective… Read more
cooling. It really can keep a hot lounge room cool on even 40c days and not many can come close to that. Folks, this is the one to get (make sure its the 16 models) if you are after a portable. Really works well.
