Great value workhorse - don't hesitate – We should have bought one of these years ago. After too much research on the internet about heat pump dryers we bought this unit 3 weeks ago hoping… Read more
it would be a good replacement for our un-killable old tumble dryer. So many odd reviews said they don't dry, don't work, blah blah blah. Rubbish. What a game changer this has been. We picked the Akai for the 3 year warranty, but it looks the same as the Bosch, Beko, Electrolux, Haier, etc etc. The low power usage we've seen means we don't have to worry about using it and paying a bomb. Our poor laundry was always a sauna of wet fluff everywhere after using our previous dryer. No more! The laundry room stays clean!! The amount of heat and moisture it emits into the room is not zero, but is not anywhere near a problem in our laundry room. We've used the Bosch Serie 6 elsewhere and maybe it emitted a little less moisture? Its so minimal it is hard to tell but it isn't zero. Very close. The time it takes is way shorter than we expected, especially after the ridiculous reviews some users posted on the internet. We usually use the Standard setting... it says 4 1/2 hours... yikes.. but by the time it counts down to about 4 hours, it autosenses the moisture and adjusts to usually 1.5 hours remaining. And at the 2 hour mark after pressing start the clothes come out hot with a hint of dampness, but that goes within a couple of minutes to dry, ready to put away clothes. And we've got 3 more levels of dryness above that if we wanted. Not needed! (Our washing machine spins very dry). The wifi tells me on the phone that the dryer has finished... not terribly useful but it has it and it works. The little light inside the unit is great. Cleaning the filter is quick and easy. Cleaning the condenser and pad with a vacuum cleaner and soft brush extension was quick and I can't see it being needed more than every 20-30 loads. The trickiest part with this unit was getting the push down latch to open the condenser door flap. I've added a bit of masking tape to help there. Otherwise you just need good fingernails. Emptying the water is the same as nearly all other heat pump dryers and we happily water our herbs and shrubs. Our woollens, our sheets, and towels and jeans etc have all worked fine. No serious balling of stuff, anymore than any tumble dryer we've ever used. If something balls up you have to unball it, that goes for any dryer. This model has reverse tumbling which seems to work, but anything can ball up. Certainly haven't seen it as an item of concern in the 10 loads we've done. And that is the killer point we've discovered since buying this... we use it! Because we can! Our solar panels and our solar battery storage can cope with it's power use, and when it's raining it still isn't a power drainer. Hanging clothes out takes forever, and we still will on sunny days. But throwing the washing straight from the washer to the dryer, when it might rain later, etc, and walking away knowing the laundry is done, has been a low cost solar friendly revelation.
