Best Solahart Electric Water Heaters
Solahart Atmos-Frost 270HAV
Very good but could be better – The Good - cost seems to be ok compared with some of the competition. In fact it was an easy choice compared with one quote I received for a straight… Read more
replacement of an old-fashioned hot water system - footprint not that much bigger than an old-fashioned hot water cylinder. Other suppliers’ units consist of a tank AND a separate compressor unit - quiet operation - system appears heat water efficiently - there is a heating element back up if the heat pump/compressor fails - can set a timer period for when you want to allow the unit to heat the water (in my case it’s during peak solar electricity generation)
The Bad - the fan runs for the whole of the timer period, regardless of whether the heat pump/compressor is operating (i.e. heating the water) ... this seems like a waste of electricity - doesn’t keep time (runs slow after an extended period) ... not a problem for me as I’m running the heater during the day when solar panels are generating electricity but if you’re wanting to align with off peak electricity period it might become an issue
The Ugly - the unit really needs connected to the live mains electric all the time, otherwise nothing can be done on the control panel ... if it’s connected to your controlled load then you’ll have to get up in the middle of the night to set it up and/or control it - it's not possible to display the water temperature when in "off" mode (i.e. powered on but outside the timer period) - it's not possible to switch off the vacation mode once it’s set ... the workaround is to set it to tomorrow & wait! - it's not possible to force the unit to heat when the unit considers the water temperature to be hot enough (i.e. bottom of tank 48degC) ... admittedly I haven't had the need yet, but if you know there's a house full of guests coming it would be nice to "boost" in advance when the sun's out - I'm a bit surprised, in this day & age, there’s no wifi/mobile app option
