the point where I needed my husband to get the bottle off and eventually neither of us to do it! We aren’t young so it ended up being a useless mop. I emailed Sabco for help and was told it the was tricky to remove and put cooking oil around the bit that goes into the mop. Anyway that was useless. I feel I’ve wasted my money on the mop. It wasn’t super expensive but it wasn’t cheap either. So I’m here to say don’t waste your money on this mop, get a Koh one. Cheers!

with stand, spare battery and floor washer. The floor washer is ideal for tiles. I spray a disinfectant after vacuuming. The pads absorb the water and go straight into the washing machine. The bagless vacuum is a delight with a new carpet. The pile is still shedding fluff so being bagless I'm not up for endless bags. Occasionally I have to manually clear the inlet with some chopsticks. The fluff comes out easily. The kit came with a stand and a spare battery. So I can easily vacuum for 30-45minutes on turbo. The filters can be cleaned easily. Currently $799 at HN store This unit replaced the Dyson. Although a good machine it didn't have the tiled floor attachments

Great mop for home (or bus in Pilbara) – This mop is great. I love that it came with 3x pads and it is easy to use. I purchased the mop online via EBay for @$40 (and I've just ordered… Read more

another), to use to clean my bus in the Pilbara in WA as mop and bucket are useless and cumbersome as you're only placing dirty water back onto the floor after first mop. And mop is usually already dirty if you have nowhere to wash it off.

This mop you are placing clean spray onto floor every time and can change pads for up to 3 cleans in one session. Then it is easy to throw them into a washing machine.

The mop can also be used for a windscreen of bus as you can reach the top and the soft pads help to clean off the cooked on bugs.

I now use the mop at home as The only issue I had was I couldn't take the arm attachment apart so I could fit it in my suitcase to take to the next job.

brush the metal shaft to remove the rust. Outside, every 6 months or so spray the neoprene cogs and the metal shaft with a silicone spray. I haven't had a problem since. Use a spray tube extension 'straw' to spray past the foot pedal and get the cogs and shaft and you won't need to take the base off. Make sure to spray the metal shaft Don't use wd40 or the like. After spraying turn the bucket upside down to let the lubricant run along the metal.

Australian designed and made! Ripper of a bucket – I do a lot of soaking. Previously I achieved this by filling up various smaller buckets then transferring soaking wet clothes or cleaning cloths into… Read more

the washing machine.

The Strucket is a large bucket with a strainer basket inside. The basket lifts up and rests on a ledge in the bucket for easy draining. It also has a drain at the bottom which can be used to empty water into the sink. It pops out so you can empty into the sink while the bucket is sitting in there, or you can have the bucket on the bench to the side of the sink and empty through the pipe sitting over the sink.

If you do hand washing, this bucket is brilliant. You can pump the basket up and down to agitate and wash. Rinsing using the strainer basket is also super easy.

The 19L bucket fits in most laundry sinks but would be too large for many kitchen sinks.

Other uses:

-Washing toys or tools (Eg gardening tools, hairdressing combs and brushes) -Washing fresh produce -As an ice bucket (easy to drain melted ice and easy to lift and drain bottles or cans) -Washing dishes or clothes while camping -Dyeing clothes

I also received a 4.5L mini strucket as part of a set. It is quite small but would be great for soaking smaller things (Eg socks or undies or a few cleaning cloths) and for washing small produce like berries. The mini isn’t big enough for every day family laundry but great for small items.

There are so many pros but here are a few things you might need to consider before buying:

-It takes up most of the laundry sink. You really need a faucet you can swivel out of the way after filling unless you have a faucet that has good clearance over the sink. -As it takes up a lot of room, you can’t really use the sink while the Strucket is in there like you might be able to with a smaller regular bucket -The Strucket is very heavy when filled with water and clothes. You can’t really lift a full Strucket onto the bench to drain, you have to let it drain while sitting in the sink. -The 19L does not come with a lid but you can purchase them separately.

If you use reusable nappies, do a lot of soaking, wash all your fresh produce, like to hand wash or enjoy camping then this bucket will be great for you. If you search Strucket on YouTube there is a good short video showing you how it works.

with the handle ACROSS the middle are absolutly uesless. The bucket tips over and the water goes everywhere. They have bought out a trolley for the bucket about 10yrs ago, they want you to spend more money to be able to mop your floors, you will still have issues like without the trolley if you need to go over some carpet to get to the right flooring, It also has a st>pid pin in the centre of the rinse side that you have to fit the mop on to spin it. That was never there with the orriginal design and it worked great. They have just looked at it and thought how can they get more money out of you, forgetting that a really well made product will ALWAYS sell and be advertised by word of mouth. Get greedy too quick and your product will start to die out, you won’t get repeat buyers which shows what people think of your product! Go back to your drawing board, bring back the RED bucket with the LONG white handle and the mops and mop heads that do not need spining on a pin- usless rubbish! The new mop heads also don’t have many microfiber tassles either, when they are wet your mop just scratches all over the floor, clunking and scrating. I always tell everyone i know and meet what mop and bucket to look out for, and not be SCAMMED with the rubbish you want people to buy now. They can get a better product from BUNNINGS or someone else and for about 1/3 the price, plus you won’t end up out of pocket and with buyers remorse! 1- the at extra cost black trolly sitting on top of bucket 2-the silly pin in the bottom of the sinse side 3 &4- i am holding the handle straight up, the mop bucket tilts downwards, the spinner end is heavier so it go down, its worse with water in the bucket 5-this is the type of handle you need on the buckets, the water doesnt spill and it is level when you pick it up 6-the white mophas the pin hole inside, it doesnt show well, but there aren’t many fibres around it. The purple head is the older head, you just put it into the bucket , pushed the handle up down and up once or twice to rinse then into the spinner and down and up again a few times and it was ready to go. I bought the mop and bucket years ago, dreading this day, as you can see my red bucket is disintergrating, i had bought both buckets direct from White Magic Australia, but never kept any receipts after recieving the dissapointing “new” bucket.

ever. By design of the plastic part of the mop head you can't use them in a mop bucket because the head just pulls off the handle. If you release the pressure a touch when squeezing, ok the head stays on BUT the mop isn't dry enough and the floor floats in water, Had a close look at the inside of the mop head and it's an inferior and substandard design to try and hold it onto the handle. The mop head won't stay on with the simple click on mechanism that Sabco products use. Never again . Going back to Oates products with a mop that screws onto the handle and stays on and doesn't end up in the mop bucket. Had to give it one star because the system wouldn't allow for no stars.

the liquid streamed out. I had only used it 4 times. Even trying to clip the bottle back into the mechanism, I had to turn the mop upside down. I was unable to recall the exact steps I took the first time.

There are no videos on how to detach and reattach the bottle. There must be a cap missing, and/or I can see something stuck inside, that looks like a cap. It would be very, very helpful for your customers, OATES, to show how to detach and insert the liquid component rather than people posting useless videos that focus on smiling for the camera and moping.

Update: Yes there was a cap missing!!!!! Would’ve been professional for Oates to have answered this when first posted!

I’m one of those odd people who like mopping, but this made me want to have a breakdown after the first use, the amount of it doesn’t dry neatly, or clean even the lightest mark off the floor ( that I did white a light scrub with a rag) it also leaves spots of fluid that leak from the spray all over the place which means I have to mop twice. Alsonot to mention for the size of my home I have to use $5 worth of your cleaning fluid (could buy 2 litres of disinfectant for that. The sheer amount of effort to mop with this thing is insane. A bucket, mop and cleaning solutions

Types of mops and buckets

Today's mops and buckets have progressed in many ways from traditional mops and buckets to have fancy features such as self-wringing mechanisms, water spray technology and mops that kill bacteria by releasing steam. The more advanced the type of mop, the most expensive it will be as well.

Cut end mops and spin mops

Also known as string mops, these are the most common types of mops that you can purchase and are also the cheapest. They have large, shredded ends made of either cotton, rayon, a poly-cotton blend or other absorbent materials and are a good choice for tackling big messes. They can’t be washed and usually don’t have detachable heads and therefore will need replacing every few months or so depending on usage. They come with buckets with a wringing compartment - which will need to be done manually.

Spin mops function similarly to cut end mops but with the addition of a bucket that has a foot or hand pedal to wring the mop. Spin mops are not as large as string mops typically but are still very useful to have when cleaning medium-sized areas.

Pros
Ideal for soaking up spills
Affordable
Good for heavy-duty scrubbing
Cons
Not machine-washable
Can be flimsy

Looped end mops

Looped end mops provide extra surface area compared to cut end mops and allow you to clean larger areas more easily. They are also less likely to fray with heavy usage compared to cut end mops.

Pros
More durable than cut-end mops
Looped ends prevent unravelling
Machine washable, except for cotton and poly-cotton blends

Flat mops

These types of mops contain a pad attached at the end which picks up dirt or mops wet spots. Some flat mop pads can be washed in a washing machine and be reused, otherwise, they can be replaced. Flat mops are designed to clean very small areas that do not encounter a lot of traffic and may not be suitable for tough stains. They don’t require a bucket to use.

Pros
Don’t need a bucket
Heads can be rewashed or replaced
Cons
Not for heavy-duty cleaning
Pads need to be changed often

Sponge mops

A step above the flat mop is the sponge mop which uses a sponge instead of a pad or a cloth. The sponge absorbs much more than the pad does and therefore can be used over larger areas and for longer without replacing.

Pros
Brilliant absorbancy
Lightweight
Cons
Hard to clean the sponge

Spray mops

Spray mops work similarly to flat mops, however, they have a spray mechanism built inside which releases a mixture of water and cleaning solution onto the floor. This solution can then be wiped up with the bottom of the pad.

Pros
Can control the release of water
No need for bucket
Choice of using wet or dry
Cons
Not for heavy-duty cleaning

Steam mops

Steam mops heat water and release steam to kill bacteria and sanitise your floors. They require no use of chemicals or cleaning products in order to function. While not being as big as a string mop, the steam mop is perfect for cleaning homes and offices as there is no need to keep a bucket around for it.

Pros
Kills bacteria and sanitises floors
Easy to replace or wash pads
Doesn’t need chemicals
Dosen’t need a bucket
Cons
Expensive
May not be suitable for all types of floors
Requires charging

Dust mops

While the previous mops mentioned are usually used whilst wet, dust mops are used dry and rid the surface of dust, dirt and other kinds of debris before wet mopping. Also known as Swiffers, they act as a combination of cut end mops and flat mops, but are normally larger and a great alternative to brooms since they are better at picking up dust.

Pros
Versatile for tight spaces
Large heads to cover a wider range
Can be used quickly
Cons
Not a replacement for wet mopping

Microfibre mop heads

Microfiber materials can absorb just as much as, if not more than, a sponge. While a sponge is nearly impossible to clean perfectly, microfiber materials are very easy to clean. Microfiber mops are made from a combination of polyester and polyamide that easily collects and traps dirt until it is washed away. These are the most sanitary types of mop heads and are compatible with flat, cut-end, spin and steam mops.

Pros
Absorbs up to seven times its weight in liquid
Can be washed 500+ times without degrading
Hypoallergenic and non-abrasive
Eco-friendly and requires fewer chemicals

Robot mops

Want clean floors without any of the manual labour? Robots are here to take your place and give you a break. They work in the same way as spray mops but travel around a room by themselves and scrub down your floors whilst doing so. They can’t replace vacuum cleaners, however, and you may have to manually mop any large spills or tough stains yourself.

Pros
Can clean a large surface area
Automatic & requires no effort
Can schedule cleaning times
Cleans hard-to-reach spots such as under bed/sofa
Cons
Can miss spots/get stuck
Expensive
Still need to vacuum and mop heavy spills
Small water tanks which will need replacing often
Requires charging

What to look for in a mop and bucket

Now that you know about all the different types of mops, there are still a few things you need to consider before making your final decision.

Floor surface: Consider the type of flooring you have and which mop would be the most suitable to clean it. Unsealed flooring would benefit from either dry or damp mopping. Due to the delicate nature of laminate flooring, steam mops would not be suitable for use on them, whereas manual mops that don’t use heat would be.

Yarn ply: This number describes how many threads of fibre are twisted together to form an individual strand of mop yarn. The more threads, the stronger the mop, however, the less absorbent it is. The most common are 4 and 8-ply mops.

Antimicrobial: In some mops, there are fibres locked into the yarn that contain an antimicrobial additive. This protects the mop head from deteriorating by preventing the growth of bacteria, mould, mildew and yeast.

Absorbancy: Depending on the size of your rooms, you’ll want to consider how large you’d like your mop heads to be. The larger the head, the more space it can cover in a room before it needs rinsing and wringing.

Typically, the sizing chart works in this way:

  • Small mop heads hold 250-300ml of liquid
  • Medium mop heads hold 500-600ml of liquid
  • Large mop heads hold 700-950ml of liquid
  • Extra-Large mop heads hold 950-1,100ml of liquid

Using the right size mop head will help eliminate water wastage.

Durability: When investing in a cleaning product, the last thing you want to do is to replace it every few months because it has broken or become too dirty and cannot be washed. Looking for replaceable or washable mop heads and sturdy, non-plastic handles to ensure your investment is a worthwhile one.

Ergonomic design: The best mops and buckets are designed with comfort in mind. Using a mop with a wringer on its handle or a bucket with a foot pedal will prevent you from having to bend down each time. The handle length and weight should also be at a convenient place to ensure you’re at your most comfortable when cleaning.

Weight and portability: Cleaning can be a laborious task, but it doesn’t need to be a back-breaking one, too. Take time to consider how easy-to-move the tools you wish to purchase are. Perhaps you need to manoeuvre between the upstairs and downstairs whilst cleaning and a heavy bucket can make that all the more difficult which is why portability is essential in choosing an excellent bucket for mops.

If you do decide to go with a heavy bucket, check that it has rubber wheels for smooth and safe handling even on sensitive laminate flooring.

Price: Luckily, no matter your budget, you’re guaranteed to find a tool to help remove stains and make your floor shiny and clean. Basic mops and buckets can provide an excellent clean as long as you’re willing to put in some elbow grease.

The bigger your budget is, the fancier the features you can invest in such as a microfibre washable pad, a steam cleaner that doesn’t need chemicals to work or a robot cleaner to do the work for you.

You can read reviews on the best mops and buckets on our website today.
