Shockingly bad. I love the free library in Australia, but thought this would be good for travelling and no damaging books. Got a brand new one and cannot access anything from the free Libby apps, can't download Epub from Z-Library, can't read on the terrible and outdated browser, can only purchase Amazon books and pay for the privilege. Absolute scammers! I wanted one for so long, had no idea how impossible it would be to get free books. Show details

Cannot get library books on Kindle device in Australia – Cannot connect device to library because I don't live in the US. The Library in Australia uses the same app, Libby, to connect to ebook borrowing that the US library uses. However, Libby in Australia will not send a borrowed book to Kindle. Further, the EPUB that Libby sends out is not recognized by Kindle. Essentially, you cannot read library… Read more

books on your kindle in Australia. The only thing you can do is buy books from Amazon. So you pay Amazon for the device for the privilege of buying books from Amazon in order to use the device.

Japanese kindle – Just purchased a kindle on Amazon. Set it all up with language selection set to english, but when I go to try and get books, everything is in Japanese. Even trying to go in the help tab. Went to see for help in Amazon au forum and nothing works. Will return and get a different brand. On the forum it's clear this problem happens frequently Show details

Not as good as previous models – This is my 3rd Kindle in about 10 years. I love them but this latest one is so slow and hard and unintuitive to navigate compared with previous models. I still use it constantly and the screen is a great improvement but they have really stuffed up the operating system in more recent times. Show details

No Bluetooth – My device is supposed to have Bluetooth but there is no Bluetooth toggle button in the settings screen. There is Airplane mode, Dark mode, sync and all settings but not Bluetooth. I will take it back. Do not buy. Show details

Stay away from this - poor product! – My Paperwhite just triggered the "white screen of death" i.e. I cannot use it, I cannot reset it (lack of a hard reset from other than a setup menu is a bad design decision!). Other people have experienced this and it has mysteriously recovered - I hope mine does (eventually), although recovery stories seem to reference WiFi - as a matter of… Read more

routine I disable WiFi to extend battery life. The only suggestion I could find to recover (from an Amazon support forum) is to download the latest software and install it via my computer - something I cannot do as my computer doesn't recognise it is plugged in ("USB device malfunctioned or..." - on two separate computers).

As an embedded software engineer, I found plenty of evidence the Kindle application has extremely poor memory management i.e. even when the device does work, you frequently need to perform a reset (every day or so) due to it becoming too slow to use (probably while it attempts to run garbage collection - which you should NEVER have in an embedded application! - to recover used memory).

The (touch) screen responds poorly to accidental touches, sometimes jumping several pages, usually further into the book, but then doesn't cope well with attempts to page backwards when you are looking for where you came from.

Overall, I would prefer to spend the extra money and run the Kindle App on a tablet i.e. iPad or Android device - both show much superior performance (NONE of the issues described above!). I wished I had never decided to try a Kindle Paperwhite, what a waste of money.

For the avid bookreader! – I have used a kindle for over 10 years and am so happy I made got an upgrade. The screen is crisp and has an adjustable backlight which is great for reading in any environment. The charger is also compatible with all my other devices, meaning less cords! It's easy to make any book purchases directly on the device, meaning you don't need to leave the comfort of your own home! Show details

Perfect size for ebook – Kindle had been great! I love the size as I tend to read on a bus to work and it fits perfectly in my handbag! It is also very light, which is great! And it was good value for money Show details

My new favourite tool – After one year of wanting to purchase this, I finally pulled the plug and purchased the Kindle Paperwhite Signature edition. It is definitely one of the best things I have purchased with money. I originally decided to purchase this because I wanted to have the option to read as many books as I want but did not like the space that physical books… Read more

take up. I also feel limited to choose between books I purchase and read because it does take up space.

With the Kindle, the best thing about it for me was that many books are included for free with Amazon Prime, or if you sign up with Kindle Unlimited you can ready as many titles as you want in a month. So far I have read bits and pieces of 7 different books within a couple days. The paper display is incredible and i found reading on it almost identical to reading on paper. I got the agave green colour and the matte finish on the back of the reader made it very easy to hold. It also fits in one hand and is so light so i felt comfortable holding it for longer periods of time compared to holding a big book. I also get sore eyes looking at a phone screen and found the Paperwhite display to as easy on my eyes as if I was looking at real paper.

The e-reader has many features which have helped me immensely whilst reading. Some of these are: Paper like display WITHOUT a back light. With the backlight turned off, you do need natural lighting in the room and won’t see the display in a dark room. You do have the option to turn a back light on though with a warm colour lighting option as well. Adjustable brightness Ability to search up words or phrases in the book Ability to make notes and highlight sections in the book A folder that has a list of your compiled notes It also fits into my handbag! This is a massive bonus.

Now some of the cons are… The battery does not last 3 weeks like they claim. I found it to drain from 100% to 80% with 10 hours of reading. This is still a good battery life but nowhere near what is claimed. Not all books are listed on kindle unlimited The display and responsiveness of the kindle is extremely slow. The speed can be compared to that of one of the original $50 Nokias that has the physical keyboards. There is also a lot of “ghosting” (where there is a light picture of the previous screen still imprinted on the screen when you change pages) which goes away after a few seconds. The speed and laginess is the only reason i took a star off for this review. There is no colour display When the screen turns “off”, it turns to the white display but without any writing. I disliked this feature because i would prefer a black screen to signify that its off. Overall, this is one of the BEST purchases I have made and i would highly recommend it.

Never leave home with out it – This Kindle has been marvelous. We do a lot of travelling arround the state and often I'm confused as to which books to take with me. With this Kindle I can carry as many books as I like. Charging hasn't been an issue as we're often in the car and it was a usb charger. My favourite part is the non-backlit screen which is very different to an ipad. It means you can read in lowlit without tiring your eyes. Show details

The time is right – My Kindle is nearing it's use by date, I looked up the price of a new one and realise that the product has not kept up in pricing with other technology. Older technology like these are dropping in price and what you can buy for the cost of a replacement unit is far more technically advanced than the Kindle. It is about time, as we all buy books… Read more

off Amazon to use the Kindle, perhaps the price should be reduced in line with other technology that is getting dated.

Amazing! – Excellent device. A joy to use and read on. Highly recommended! I know there are MANY reviews here. But it's important to know that the Kindle will allow you to read MANY formats. September 2022 it was shared by my family that Kindle devices allow the reading of PDF & EPUB! I never knew that. Game Changer. It's as simple as emailing your… Read more

kindle email account (created when you setup the device and sign in), any files you have, in my case I had purchased EPUB books from other vendors, and once sent, the book eventually loads and shows on your Kindle device library. Perfectly formatted and ready to read.

(Officially my device will read : Kindle Format 8 (AZW3), Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively; HTML DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, PMP, EPUB, TXT.... ) Read the specs before you buy to ensure any file format you have is supported.

Before this I would read the EPUB books on my Laptop/tablet, heavy, bulky. Not as convenient or travel friendly.

The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition I purchased : It's physically light, text is clear, very well lit, I can read in the dark or in full sun, it's wonderful. 6.8" glare-free 32 GB (I chose the larger memory) 300 ppi 17 LEDs Waterproof (IPX8) Adjustable warm light Auto-adjusting light Wireless Charging

Not all versions have auto adjusting light, wireless charging, larger memory capacity or are waterproof. Check the details before purchasing please.

Weight - 208g (cover not included) 32GB - can hold thousands of books. 174 x 125 x 8.1 mm (6.9” x 4.9” x .32”)

Kindle Website states : Weeks of battery life* My reading will vary, but it can easily be two weeks before I need to think about charging it . Plus I can battery share off my phone to Wirelessly charge my Kindle a bit if ever needed. (*A single charge lasts up to ten (10) weeks, based on a half hour of reading per day with wireless off and the light setting at 13)

Small,( but not too small), light, and good – I've been using the kindle app on my iPad for the past 200 books, but I found that although I liked the screen size, the iPad was too heavy for those long reading sessions, so I decided on getting a kindle - which is half the weight. The screen is very readable - the resolution is superb, and the backlighting equally so. The screen update… Read more

time is very good for an E-ink reader and the weight is good and light.

I just wish the screen was alittle bigger, but using my preferred font (arial or equiv.) and line height I found the screen area adequate and only a minor niggle.

Battery life seems to be very good - ie many times better than the old iPad

At just over $200, and using Kindle unlimited, I think the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition is a clear winner in e-readers and worth the price quoted.

the other thing I really like is that with a kindle you can just buy a book off of amazon using the kindle - doing the same on the iPad was a total PITA.
