Antler Duolite

sturdy suitcas – This is a sturdy suitcase. It has been to the USA and two times to Europa. I had to drag it up and down stairs over cobble stones. I'm surprised the little wheels are still on the case. It got not treated very gentle on the lase trip.. I bought it last ear at Myers and had no problem.
Antler Duolite - Product replacement – We purchased 3 Duolite suitcases in 2013. After a recent flight from Adelaide to Sydney we noticed that the hard plastic corrigated cardboard style inner lining on the base of both the larger cases was cracked and breaking up. I contacted Antler in Melbourne via email asking if they would still be under warranty. They immediately responded with… Read more
a request to send photos. I took the photos and sent them via email. They responded within 20 mins with an offer to replace the set with a complete new set of cases. I accepted and the new cases arrived within a few days. Terrific service.
OK, but with too many annoyances – After getting good use out of two hardsided Antler Laser 2 wheeler bags, I grabbed this soft/hard sided cousin when I saw it on special, hoping it would be as good as the others. Unfortunately is wasn't. To borrow someone else's phrase, it's too squishy, and it's also missing some features. The bag's soft sides sag, so when it's opened up with any… Read more
weight in the upper lid portion, the top section wants to collapse down into the other half along the 'hinge' line. This tendency to collapse makes opening a closing the zippers awkward.
The upper half has a mesh cover over the interior, but instead of being zipped on 3 sides for easy access, it only has a zip across one end, rather than the long side, making it necessary to pack while flat, and folded clothes usually end up unfolded once they've been slid on top of others through the open 'slot'. The bottom half has 2 pairs of straps joining across the bag to hold back the contents. Once the bag is full, these have no doubt been lost under the carefully packed contents and each one has to be fished out. A pair of diagonal straps locking in a X across the centre would be a better solution.
The top handle is well padded and there's a grip at the other end, so it can be easily lifted with two hands, however, the third 'handle' on the side is just a slot just big enough to get fingertips into - no use for carrying.
There was only the burgundy colour left in the store, but despite its darkness, it seems to have attracted some even darker stains on the outside. However, it hasn't been torn despite a being tossed about on overseas trips. The lining, as simple as it is, has also survived intact. A zipper undoes to allow the bag to expand a few centimetres and there is a large, but flat, outside pocket. Anything in it falls to the very bottom making it hard to reach.
Security is weak with a single layer zipper and a separate TSA padlock.
While the bag is relatively light, rolls well over rough surfaces with its twin wheels and can expand to hold inevitable holiday shopping, it is just awkward in almost every other aspect. The older hardsided Antler Lasers are much more user-friendly and still our first choice when a holiday rolls around.
Internal hard sides disintegrated – Very unhappy with Antler Duolite.... we purchased 2 x 74cm in June 2012. So not yet 3 years old. They have done just 2 overseas trips. Just completed our 2nd overseas trip with them.... and the problems are: 1st Piece: The hard interior has completely disintegrated and is in many pieces. There are no breaks in the inner lining nor the… Read more
exterior. We first became aware of this several days on a road trip. I do not think it was due to any damage by the airline
2nd Piece: For some reason one of the wheels 'lock' when the bag is packed .... which is only about 16kg. Which means the bad must be dragged as one wheel does not move. Also the main zip is failing in 2 corners and as difficult to close.
A design problem with both, is that the side handle is not really handle at all, and the bags are difficult to lift because of that. Also they must be packed really carefully, else they topple over.
Seems like we were mistaken in believing that Antler was a good brand. They com with a 10 year warranty, so we will be taking them back to Bags to Go on the Gold Coast, where we purchased them from, and see what they have to say.
Zip failure after only 2 long haul flights – I have done only 2 long haul flights with my case and now the Australian supplier- though Victoria Station is saying that it is unrepairable. I thought buying a quality product and spending $200 on a case would last much longer than this. I am very disappointed and NOT buying Antler again
Weak internal structure – The Medium Duolite is 3 years old and has done 4 long trips overseas and inside Australia. It has some marks on the outside hard plastic, but no damage on the soft fabric. The internal structure has completely disintegrated and is a pile of pieces. the structure is much too weak. Another case that I own has done many more difficult trips and is still in good working order, if somewhat marked. Duolite is not durable.
Was happy - then all internal structred support shattered. outside got tatty made of light weight f – The case did a number of overseas trips - Vietnam, Borneo Bali -so case got lugged about. It wheeled well and was lightweight which I wanted. Good size. Prob one: It got nicks and marks - burgundy case. Now that may sound picky after the number of trips but my Mums soft sided case (royal blue and black) of a different brand went to 4 weeks in… Read more
each of these China, India, Oz, Vietnam, USA x2, staying in hostels etc over six years. Hers is in almost new condition. My duolite in two years & less trips was looking very tatty. Now I do expect some wear and tear obviously but I was very disappointed - feel the fabric wasn't very strong weave. Wish I had taken a photo to post.
Prob 2: My case was dropped by an airline (not antlers problem) and the whole internal fibre glass insert shattered. I was surprised how fragile this was when I undid the lining zips to look. thickness of corrugated cardboard looks very similar. No wonder a bang broke it. The b ag shop did say that something ha to be compromised to provide a lightweight bag....
Prob 3: mine was version 1 - may si=till be some on sale - check the handle on the side - its not a full handle just a slot - so you cant lift it up properly. How did that leave the design floor - try carrying it up 44 steps to my sisters front door - or flipping on to a luggage rack in a hotel room.
It couldn't be repaired so now I have a new case of a different brand (airline sorted) - not as elegant in shape but hopefully will stand up to wear and tear a lot better.
******Tip for case buying: check it has three handles that you can put your hands into for lifting; top, bottom and side - my new replacement one unbelievably doesn't have a bottom one for lifting into taxi's etc - missed that in the pressure to replace. light weight - easy to pull nice shape weak fabric - marked and pulled, easily shattered internal support and side handel a pocket (fixed onnew model)
Antler Duolite - what a gem – I've had my old and trusty Antler suitcase for over 10 years and thought it was time for an update. I decided on the Antler Duolite for many reasons but the deal breaker for me was the "Duolite" part of this suitcase. I purchased the 73cm one and empty it weighs only 2.9kg ... OMG, that means more shopping for me!. It's soft on one side and hard… Read more
on the backside and is expandable. It has two wheels and a handle so it's very easy to use. Such a delight. Only thing is if you have fragile things in your suitcase I'd make sure that it's well wrapped as the soft side although strong is soft. light, easy to use, expandable not necessarily good for carrying fragiles
Light but squishy – The compromise for lightweight means the sides of the suitcase are quite soft, and they tend to collapse. If you are living out of your suitcase this isn't ideal, but by using packing cells ( or if you unpacked properly and used the hotel room wardrobes) this overcomes the issue. The bright orange colour is great when locating on the airport… Read more
carosel, but does tend to show wear and tear and scuff marks readily. Bright identifiable colour, lightweight, low cost -40%off during stocktake sale, not sure if I would have paid full price... Not convinced on how long it will withstand airport punishment, squishy collapsing sides
