Aristopet Mite and Mange Spray for Small Animals

KILLS MICE - IRRITATES AND MAKES WORSE – Doesn’t even contain any of the proper ingredients to treat mites. It made it worse. It’s toxic and shouldn’t even be sold at pet stores. Was actually bought at Pet Stock but I couldn’t select Pet Stock. Show details
Aristopet mite spray – Applied by finger to paw, no fur elsewhere. Developed a terrible red rash from area right up her tummy. From the direction of the paws, won't use it any more, since the deaths of others animals small in size, the company saying "oh we complied with government specifications" and being sorry just doesn't cut it... To the customers who experience death of their pet. Revisit size requirements on dosage application ie - anything larger than a cat. Show details

I hope this helps – Hello all. I've read a lot of the reviews here and I'm very sorry a lot of you have had such terrible experiences with this product. I used this product on my guinea pigs after visiting my vet and my vet recommended this product to me. My vet believed my guinea pigs had mites. Please see a vet before treating any animal though with products you're… Read more
not familiar with and also to ensure you have the right diagnosis for your animal.
My vet said to try this product first but if it had no effect to try puppies and kittens mites and lice treatment. He said it is very effective and he has safely used it on small animals like guinea pigs and rabbits before. It is an option if you don't feel comfortable using this product.
However, if you'd like to know how I used this product please read on. For my guinea pigs it was recommended to treat them only ONCE in a week and if no change was seen then to return to the vet. Please don't treat and retreat them you could make them very sick.
To treat both my guinea pigs I ensured they were in a well ventilated area. Both on a towel. I applied 3 light sprays (15 cms away from the guinea pigs) to their back and then 3 to their belly. Please shield their faces and mouths with the towel. You don't want them to get sprayed in the eyes or to breathe this stuff in. Next I lightly ruffled their coat with the towel and then wrapped them up for 10 minutes to dry with their faces unexposed. I fed them carrots and celery during this time to reduce their stress. It helped a lot. At first they were VERY itchy but after about 20 minutes it began to work. After a few hours I noticed they had basically stopped itching all together. Make sure you also clean their water and food dishes.. And their enclosures. Remove all old bedding or hay, scrub the enclosures and spray some of the mite and lice killer on the enclosure and let it air out. I let mine air out for several hours. Don't spray this product while the guinea pigs or rabbits are in there. Once it's all aired out then replace the bedding and put fresh food and water back in. I noticed a change quickly in my pets behaviour. They were eating more, happier and scratching a lot less. If you don't get the result you had hoped for though please don't apply more product. See your vet and get their opinion. Their bodies are so much smaller than ours and too many chemicals can be lethal. I haven't used this for rats or mice but if you're reading this and wanting to use it on either I'd use a lot less.. Maybe 1 spray back and 1 on their belly.. Just because they are so much smaller. However, it's best to consult your vet first. I hope my reply helps someone and maybe helps save a future fur baby.
I just want to add that I do not believe this product is for "burrowing mites." Burrowing mites can be lethal for a small animal and they dig deeper into your animal when agitated. Sadly, this can also be caused by bathing your animal. If you notice scabs or hair loss on your animal take them to the vet because they could be signs of burrowing mites and this product could make it worse. Please also remember not to bathe them even just in regular water as it does make it worse. Just go straight to the vet. Burrowing mites can cause neurological problems and even death but the biggest signs are itching, dandruff, scabs and hair loss.
Do not buy - Killed my childrens 2 guinea pigs within 2 hours of application – Our Guinea pigs were healthy prior, other than the suspicion of mites due to a rash (on my son) after cuddling one of them. To be safe we sprayed both Guinea pigs, covering their faces with a flannel and following the instructions on the bottle. They died within a few minutes of each other (in my inconsolable children’s arms) a couple of hours later. Looking at the other comments I cannot see how this is allowed to be sold. Show details

DO NOT USE Killed pet rat in 2mins. Horrible to watch pet die. I wonder how many animals your product has killed! – My pet Rat started to stagger and lost the strength in his legs, Collapsing completely. He then started to bleed from nose and started to gasp for breath before stopping breathing altogether. Show details

Don't Use This Product – Don't Use This Product.!!! I wish I got on and read the reviews here before I used this. I only used this spray once on her back..... No licking for hours I watched and she didn't lick her fur. Followed the very short uneducated instructions on the back that they have kept very short and vague to cover there own butt because they know it's not… Read more
safe. Only used this once and next day she was having shaking seizures and rat blood tears coming from her eyes (she is a patchwork used spray while she is fully furred ) if they want to say it's the breed, it's not. I have the best rat in the world and only had her 3 months we have best connection she even goes to work with me and now she's sick. Tried to do the right thing. I buy top quality everything for her. I wish I just got on here and read all the reviews before I used. I sat and thought for an hour what was causing all this seizures and acting weird and stress rat blood from eyes. The only thing I have done differently since I got her is this spray. I'm so upset. Nothing will make this better honestly.
does it actually work ? – I wonder if this product really works I followed the instructions repeatedly and nothing seemed to improve. They do however seem to be the only product I can find that is suitable for our pet rabbit on the shelves at our local retailers. Show details
DO NOT USE! – If there was a 0 star option it would be given that. My 3 guinea pigs were treated over 3 weeks as we suspected mites. First treatment appeared to make some difference in the inching, as did second, by then we trusted in this product. 3rd spray came around and just in time as we were going away. They seemed very happy again. They were left with… Read more
family for the holiday duration and we returned, the day we returned we found 1 laying dead. Not something you expect or want to deal with after travelling across the world for 2 days. We took the remaining two the the vet as we no longer knew if they would make it either. The cause, sacroptic mites, which Arisopet didn't kill and in fact made them bury deeper. Luckily the other two were treated just in time. This spray doesn't work and it cost our pets life, cause of death was the mites which had basically been living on his bloodstream. Absolutely devastated. DO NOT BUY. And in general do not but aristopet, I've now thrown every product we own from them.
Mouse still itches, and he has now serious neurological problems – I used Aristopet Mite and Mange Spray to treat my two pet mice because they were scratching excessively, so I suspected mites or lice. They are both male and live completely separate lives with separate cages and playgrounds). They've been directly treated 3X with Aristopet, and each time I've thoroughly washed and sun dried and sprayed their… Read more
cages and all interior and all surfaces they come in contact with, including places they come in contact with infrequently like my desk, window sill, curtains. In addition, cages & interior have been washed, sun dried and sprayed about weekly or sometimes. The product has an alarming, uncomfortable smell, and the mice always get really stressed out when sprayed and then locked into the smelly cages.
As for spraying directly on the mice, the product instructions does not specify dosage per treatment per mouse. It says to wipe off excess product, but how much is excess? It says to make sure the animal does not lick its fur after applying the product, but for how long? The Green Cross vet in the petshop where I purchased the product said to hold & distract each mice for 10 min after applying the product, and after 10 min it would be fine. I wasn't 100% successful in preventing furlicking for 10 min, it is not easy and the mice panicked when being sprayed and held (I let them run on me instead, as it wasn't possible to hold them as they were too slippery and panicking). After the 10 min were up and they were put back in their (washed, sprayed) cages, they both groomed excessively for hours, including licking their fur.
A few days ago, my favourite mouse's behaviour suddenly changed. He is usually very bold, agile, social, interactive and lively, and has a great temperament - kind of "bomb proof" as much as a mouse can be. He became suddenly withdrawn, and seemed "drunk" when I finally lured him out of his hut. He seemed to not recognise me, and had a wild panic attack when I opened the cage (never seen him like that before - or any animal for that matter). He was throwing himself widely against the sides of the cage, like a wild rocket, and was "beyond reach" mentally for hours after. He tried to climb up to his usual places but appeared confused and unsteady. Later he became calmer again but not as normal. He still behaved "like a stranger", and felt asleep on the top of a card box (very unnatural for a mouse, they normally prefer to sleep hidden in a hut or similar).
Now a few days later he is not having panic attacks anymore, but is still not his normal self. He is much less lively and social, appears "dement" some of the time, and has lost his agility. I observed him falling down from the cage ladder today and then tumbling down several times when trying to climb around the cage. He will take treats and drink water, but seems "off". It looks like some sort of neurological disorder or damage.
I can't say for sure if it is a side effect of the treatments with Aristopet but it does seem to correlate, and also as the instructions are so vague about dosage and in some ways impossible (like preventing a mouse from licking its fur), it seems likely I've overdosed it repeatedly when treating the mice, and perhaps the surroundings too. Will never use again, but it is too late for my little buddy.
Update: took the mouse to a specialist vet. He confirmed that the most likely explanation for… Read more
