I had the same problem with mine, of the four units only one still works. They are poor quality. Mine failed after warranty expired. If yours are still in warranty I would suggest you return them and try and get a credit.

What is the relay status mean I was under the impression that it would start the unit up in the status it turned if I’m Re: on my fish tank lights which are dimmed before timer shuts it down but when it comes in it’s in full brightness

Hi Nicole , Regarding relay status I am not sure what that is ? We power up a lamp with the power switch left on so it comes on once we press the remote button assigned to that device. I’d assume your dimmer control on your fish tank light is controlled by a knob or is it digital? If adjustable by button digitally I’d say once powered off as in receiving no power from the Arlec unit it may be just forgetting it’s brightness setting and reverting back to full brightness as though it was just plugged back in again manually. I know in the clock radio’s they had a battery back up to stop any settings from being lost so you obviously don’t miss your alarm getting up for work but who barely uses a clock radio these days anyway lol : ) ..

Anything that we find we use them with without a memory for a certain setting is fine. We use them for a treadmill , lamp, TV , Amplifier and blue ray player/set top box. None of these require a constant stanby for memory retention of settings.

I think the issue is the adjustable light not keeping it’s setting when turned off possibly. If you can find a light keeps it’s setting regardless of if it’s turned off then back on that would definitely seem like a solution.

I hope this is of some help.

Hi. I have 3 wall units and two remotes. Is it possible to program the 3 wall units to operate from either remote? Thank you

Hi Alan,

I cannot say I have tried with 2 but I am sure you could sync 2 remotes and make them work with all your outlets.

The remote has the possibility to control 4 power outlets but is sold with ONE power outlet only. Is it possible to buy 3 more power outlets on their own only? Thank you for your answer.

I purchased 2 sets of 4 units which worked fine for several months, then started failing one by one -will turn on but won’t turn off. Resetting the units doesn’t help. Now 7 of the 8 units have failed in the same way. Any suggestions?

In short, they are rubbish. I had the same experience. Throw them in the bin. The bigger models ie the ones that connect to the wifi seem to be more stable. I have now bought a set of these, and they have all been fine…

Thanks for the advice, I’ll look into the wifi models.

I don't seem to be able to get the devices to work on different selections (all work simultaneously). Have followed the instructions numerous times, but no luck. Is there a problem, or is it fingertrouble?

Unplug and then plug in again. Then, while the light is flashing, press the relevant off button, or all of the off buttons. Then press the button you want it set as, before the flashing stops. I had the same issue, and just fixed it.

How can I use 8power outlet in 2 different rooms without interference

DBO
DBO

No issue buying multiple kits. The programming is unique to each remote control, so you can use more than one remote. Just follow the standard programming instructions - i.e. plug in outlet, wait for flashing light, then press ON for the button you want. Repeat with other remotes if you want to copy buttons to others. To release the outlet assignment on a remote, plug in the outlet, then press the corresponding OFF button on the remote.

That bit about releasing an assignment just helped me a lot. I had accidentally set two units on one setting. Now all good again.

I have the unit in the pic. It came with 2 wall sockets. Can one buy more up to 2 more wall sockets that will work on the 1 remote. Don’t want remotes all over the place. Only putting lights on the system.

Mine failed after ~ 18 months - it seems they cannot handle inductive loads like transformers etc. used to step down voltage in appliances and irrigation systems. Hopefully the design will be modified to handle this in the future because they sure are handy.

This controller has positions A, B, C, D. A works fine, B no longer works on a light circuit. How would I “reprogram” the switch so that it works on the C position with the B power point?

The current rating on these devices is claimed to be 10 Amps - or 2400 Watts. This is false and misleading as the unit's contacts in the internal relay weld together if it switches on any appliance that does not have a standby power feature such as a computer or TV.

I purchased two single units - one to shut down half of my computer system (i.e. standby power) and another to shut down my entertainment system. The unit on the computer system has worked fine, but the unit developed welded contacts (the relay changes over but the power remains on) after just a few times of operation. It seems the relay contacts can't handle the surge current when switching on the audio system's power amplifier.

These units should be marked for light-duty (meaning for standby equipment and lighting) only, and not for general use.

You will find that the initial surge current to power up your Stereo system is over the claimed limit, which is indeed 10A/2400 watts, I run a 2400 watt heater on the device and it has performed flawlessly for over 12 months. The contacts will develop 'scorch' marks and pits and could, as you say, weld close, but not at 10A. If you are able to seperate you amp, have that on one supply switch and the remaining devices on another, you should solve the problem.

Since the sockets are too wide to allow 2 sockets to operate side by side in a double power point is it possible to plug the sockets into a multi power board

DavidN
DavidN

Yes, you can also buy multi power board with wide spacing. Very useful indeed nowadays given so many power bricks go straight on to the wall and most smart plugs have the same problem.

mordy
mordy

Yes definitely. I have 3 in one board and have been working very well indeed. You can also pick up the old style adapters shape like a triangle at woolies etc they work as well

The remote power outlets do not last long before the relay contacts weld together even just using a 55cm.tv. Can these relays be replaced or can they be bought from an electronics supplier so that I can get 5 of my failed ones going again.

DavidN
DavidN

Wow, sorry to hear this. I have been using mine for ages and not one has a problem like yours. Guess I am using them only on low power device may be. Anyway, whilst you probably can get the relay from electronics stores such as Radio Parts, Altronics or jaycar, I won’t dare to fix it. At around $13 each at Bunning, I would be more game to replace it with new one or return it if it’s still under warranty and look at may be a similar product that can take higher load.

Btw, take what I said with a grain of salt. I’m not sure if it’s the load that caused the welding. Might just be the arcing of the two contacts. Good luck!

Says standby power consumption is 2 watt, is that alot? I am using this to control a light that i will not use very often but the power socket is up high out of my reach, so is it going to use alot of power if just sitting in standby mode for long periods of time?

DavidN
DavidN

I won’t say 2W is exuberant or excessive and should be expected from such device because it is constantly on waiting for input from remote control. Use it where it makes sense such as where you can’t reach the plug or the appliance it attaches to consumes even more power. There are unfortunately more and more of such devices like smart plugs, Amazon Alexa, google home, etc all running all the time.
