We have a rooftop pool in our apartment block with a Viron P320 XT POOL PUMP , about 5 years old. A new control box was installed about 18 months ago. It has been running at 1875rpm 24 hrs per day for sometime as recommended by a pool specialist to keep the water moving. Now for some reason after 4-6 hrs the pump turns off showing no error code. I have increase the rpms to 1325 but it still turns off. There doesn’t appear to be any overheating or anything like that. It is located in a well ventilated area in the shade. We lost power about a month ago for about 8 hours in the Brisbane storms but this fault has only started about 1 week ago. Any suggestions of how we can resolve this issue? Chris W

I purchased the Viron XT 520 in December 2019. It was replaced after the first week due to leaking seals. Now I. April 2024 it seems the bearings are shot. I have had experience selling electric motors that are running 24/7 and bearings last easily ten years and more. The question is how long should the bearings last for in the XT520? And Are the bearing running too hot? Before I bought this pump I was told that the bearings were an easy fix is that really the case. Input would be appreciated.

My pump is not dropping speed after initial prime period of usually 2 minutes. It is connected to V25 control that controls when system turns on and off usually. Panel on pump says in manual is there an auto selection/mode.

I think the problem is that people don't use the Australian Consumer Law to enforce their rights - until more people do then things will remain the same. The Astral Pool pumps are better than most, it's just the bar is set very low.

A very noisy pump!! “Whisper quiet” it definitely is not. Our pump is 2 months old and our neighbours are threatening to take action if we don’t do something about it!! There is no information available on what the pumps sound should be but it’s very noisy so if your close to a neighbours I’d look elsewhere!!

I think you need to get your pumped looked at, as it dsounds like your main bearing is cooked. It should run quiet. Sounds like you may have run the pump without priming it with water and have burnt the bearing.

Hi Peter, I hope not?!! The accredited installer has been to site to service the pool and didn't make any comment. It might be worth us getting them to specifically check it, but its been this noisy since day 1....

Hi Jon, We apologise for the delay in response. The AP Viron P320 XT pump is rated at 63 dBA and measured at 1.5 metres. A variable-speed pump will operate the quietest of any other type of pump on the market, it will also save you loads in energy costs as well. The P320 XT is at its maximum speed when it first starts up as it primes for 5-minutes. We recommend selecting the low flow or medium flow which means the pump dBA will be at its best sound levels. Below is an example of the pump 3 speeds. - High Flow Rate = 2850 RPM @ 63 dBA @ 1.5 metres - Medium Flow Rate = 2000 RPM - Low Flow Rate = 1325 RPM

If you could kindly confirm the pump is reducing its RPM after the priming is done following the 5-minute startup. Make sure the MED or LOW is selected on the pump controller. If you have an EQ Series chlorinator and if the feature, AI mode is selected, then the pump will operate at is the maximum speed to get the chlorine demand up to a higher ORP.

Suggest you expand on this and tell people how long the bearings last for! The noise from the bearings after three years was unbearable! Second Evo pump I've had and same problem

Viron P320 XT pump is very quite. 40db is the sound of talking and surrounding noise in a quite street. About the same when motor has reduced to say 1500 RPMs. The issue with the pump is the mechanical seal which failed after a few years. This seems to be a common problem with many pool pumps. Running 8 hours each day, the seal will fail so it is a mater of when. The front bearing then gets wet with salt pool water, seizes and becomes noisy. My call is this seal should be replaced every few years to get a trouble free run. Cost of seal is about $40 and allow an hour or two to fit. Bearings are cheap so replace at the same time.

Hi I have a Viron XT that we purchased in 2018. Last year we had to have it fixed under warrantee. They replaced the bearings in it. Its making the same noise again and its under 12months since it was last fixed. Has anyone else had this problem. I am going to call the pool man who repaired it last time. I just think this is pretty bad considering its only 2 years old?

We have the same pump and our pump started getting noisy 3 months out of warranty. I’ve tried calling Astral twice and not been able to speak to anyone. First time I got dropped into a queue with a wait time of 45mins, 40mins later my wait time was still 45mins. Exactly the same happened the second time. Called, 35min wait time advised and 20mins in, 35mins wait time remaining.

Tried finding an email address, couldn’t find one. Found an online form which I completed but I’ve had no response. My local pool shop guy said the service from Astral is terrible and they refuse to sell their products because of this. He also said the Viron XT is one of the hardest units to fix. So after spending $8k on Astral products, after 3 years I could be looking at replacing not only the pump but also the automated Chlorinator that links to it. What a joke! We all want to support Aussie companies but when you get service and quality like this, it’s hard to justify. I cannot shell out thousands of dollars on new pool equipment every 2/3yrs supporting Aussie companies when product quality is substandard, longevity is questionable and after sales service is nonexistent. These pumps are meant to be top of the range and they are not cheap to buy!

Same We decided to purchase the Viron P320 Evo! What a heap of junk! Two pumps within four years! Can't understand why the bearings are so poor! Not sure if its design related or inferior bearings ! Either way Astral you should be ashamed!
