Warning about product and service – I bought new BBT Diesel Twin Impeller Fire Water Pump for $961.77 in July 2019 for my business. Stored it in work premises until about 2 months ago when we scheduled fire preparedness training with a fire fighter. He connected the pump and plums of white and grey smoke came out. He run it for about 10-15 min but the smoke was the same. He switched… Read more

it off and I got a pump mechanic to examine it. He reported several issues with the pump and concluded it was faulty. I emailed the report to BBT but they disagreed with the report without even looking at the pump and suggested it was my fault. I have checked it with the independent mechanic who debunked the BBT suggestions. I requested BBT refunds and collects the pump and emailed them a letter of demand. They refused refund and collection based on their terms and conditions published on their website. I have reminded them that these do not supersede Australian commercial law. Then they agreed to collect it but making me print a packing sleep and also demanding I myself put 60kg pump on a pallet because people picking it up cannot lift past 25kg. I let them know there was no packaging left and to organise collection that can deal with that. TNT came to collect the pump but sent the wrong track b. dispatch did not know there was no pallet. BBT technical adviser offered me a refund minus 20% for re stocking. I have requested a full refund as the pump was faulty, it could not be re-stocked and on-sold as it is faulty. He informed me he sold thousands of these pumps and they are not faulty.

I am terrified at a prospect of other people relying on fire fighting pump for protection of life and property and like myself would not be able to tell what is a normal function of a this type of pump. If it would not be for a fire fighter running the training and a pump mechanic I would be relying on this pump for protection. I am in a remote area, nearing national parks, have only 2 routes of escape, no mains water relying entirely on a fire pump for protection if electricity gets cut off. BBT is silent.
