Black Wolf Grand Teton

Broke with very little use due to a design issue – I bought the 75L Grand Teton 10+ years back for an overseas trip for a few weeks, and it was fine - but I didn't use the straps. Then half way through day 1 of the second use (and day 1 of a 5 day walk) the harness bars punched through the fabric such that they no longer gave any support (exactly as described by another reviewer) causing the pack to basically collapse. Unfortunately the design of the harness puts the force directly on a seam and with a decent amount of weight the fabric tears out from the seam and the bar pops through. My pack has plastic stoppers on the end of the harness bars so they were not as sharp as seen in the photo from the other reviewer, but it was not adequate to stop the bars breaking through and ruining the pack.
Purchased in at Mountain Designs.
Complete rubbish! – Purchased a Black Wolf Grand Teton 75 for a trip through the USA and Mexico for 6 weeks, then on my next trip to Sri Lanka, on day 1 the pack literally fell apart. All the lining on the inside started flaking off the canvas and both sharp harness struts went straight through the fabric which was poorly designed and constructed. I'll note that it definitely was NOT damaged in transit. I am told today that warranty will not apply as it is deemed "general wear and tear". One trip and it has to be binned. I previously owned a Macpac which did 68 countries and was only replaced because it got stolen! Pretty disgraceful.
terrible day pack! – The built in metal frame did not really help take the load off my shoulders. The idea of a metal frame is good if you have a large bag because it centres the weight around your waist. The day pack is very small and because of this it centres the weight around your lower back, which is worse than taking the tension of your shoulders.
Excellent travel pack – Dragged my 75L Grand Teton all around the west of USA in and out of a car trunk every day ,loaded to the brim coming back to Oz and it did the job in style. taken it camping,on other road trips and it is still purring. nicely padded and balanced on your back. Bought the 65L for my daughter same trip and she loved it. Heading to Vietnam with it next where it will come into its own, traversing Cambodia,Laos and Thailand. Comfortable, easy to get into, packs up as a suitcase style carry with shoulder strap cover zipped. Expensive but good product
Great all rounder for short & longer trips – Excellent compact pack with variable uses. The day pack is brilliant and can double as an overnighter with s/bag attached. Carried our throughout Europe and hiking in NZ. Fitted perfectly and 65kgs for an older, albeit fit, chick was no problem. Stretched to the limit a couple of times without any issues at all. Very reliable, durable straps and attachments. Great fit!!
