Even a free Wok can be a great Wok for the Food Experience – Acquired 2nd hand 12 years ago, and still going strong. We are very happy with this Wok, Asian wife, and lived in Jakarta taught me to appreciate great food when done properly in a good Wok. The Temperature control is not perfect, and requires a little patience to manage. The cleaning is difficult because of its weight and size, but that is the… Read more
whole point of this quality item, so fair exchange.
The non stick/surface coating is slowing perishing, but over 12 yrs old, and used every week, more often 3-4 time per week than not... no complaints there either.
Will we buy a newer model... absolutely yes unless we are given another unit, of any brand. But this sets the benchmark for us.
Update. It has finally died...... element failed April 2025. Over 15 years old, it will become a plant pot/planter in the garden.
Just updated to a Sunbeam WW7500 38cm... larger, and I shall do a full review soon. Initial thoughts...the control dial is absolute rubbish although a few cooks down and temps/cook are looking great.
as far as an electric wok goes, these are probly the best, but they are a compromise so beware – Wont hold a simmer, becoz of the thermostat controlled element. As long as you realise this when u decide you want to cook on an electric wok, then the breville ew30/ew40 is a quality made product amongst many cheapo products (sunbeam/ronson etc) I firstly bought a second hand ew30 for $25 on gumtree to see if i like using it, as i have read many… Read more
negative reviews on electric woks. If you want to slow cook something or simmer something for a long time, like a soupy curry or a soup even, these are no good. They seem good for deep frying, steaming under constantly boiling water, or a quick stir fry.
Steaming under lightly boiling water was a failure, one minute it would be boiling and the next it would stop completely. But a more rapid boil is sustainable. Even so, i like it for this purpose, the lid fits nicely and i can see inside through the glass lid
Sometimes i do some small amounts of deep fry, and i have always liked the wok shape to deep fry. I can take this machine outside and make a mess there. The nonstick and wok shape means i can use less oil, and easy to clean up. But i am not sure if i can regulate the temperature to an exact degree, if i needed to (but i don't, i just get the oil hot and fry away)
I tried a curry, its useless for this. Normally i would simmer my curries for 1hour on the gas in a pot or my french oven. I'll stick to the gas if i cook stew/curry/soups
A stir fry should have precooked/blanched veggies, and the wok should be used to quickly cook the meats and then the veg is added, and then the dish is flavoured and served. This wok is good for that, to combine your ingredients, but if u are trying to cook your raw veggies in this wok with your meats you will fail
I give this 4 stars, becoz as an electric wok is a nice quality appliance and what it can do it does well, so its probably the best of this type of appliance(that i have seen/tried)
But as an appliance that says it can do so many things and fails at it its probably a 2 star product
I have since tried a sunbeam wok and updated my ew30 to a new ew40. there is a few things it can do well, and the build quality of this breville is good thermostat controlled element is a design flaw, probly the reason why there is so many near new second hand electric woks available
Awesome product – Not having gas can make cooking stir fries difficult but I find this electric wok is pretty much as good as a wok over gas. The heat it generates is amazing. I have made quite a few stir fries which have tasted restaurant quality. One of my most commonly used appliances for a week night meal. I don't miss a gas stove at all now. The heat it generates is amazing. Nothing once you get used to the heat. Show reply
Couldn't have asked for a more reliable wok! – I bought this wok about 7 years ago and have never had a problem with it. It heats up to temperature quickly and the heat is evenly distributed even around the sides. Over the years the non stick coating has worn away but that would be expected with how much I have used it over the years! The non stick coating, the easy to use heat settings, the… Read more
speed in which it heats up and cools down, the reliability of it! I think all electric woks are the same but I don't see the point of removing the base from the wok for cleaning seeing as though the plug is still on the part you would normally nsubmerge in water which makes it fdifficult to clean. I just leave the whole wok together and just boil a cup of water in it and wipe out with a sponge instead.
Excellent – This is an excellent wok that is a good size capacity and heats up to a very high temperature at a really fast rate. It heats really evenly and results in great stir fry's. It has a good solid glass lid with a little steam vent, and it is so easy to clean after use. The base will also detach to make cleaning even easier still. This is my… Read more
favourite cooking appliance and other than stir fry's I also use it to make stews soups and roasts. Great size, non stick finish, gets really hot really fast. Easy to clean. None at all
Great Wok – Like the name suggests, this wok gets super hot. Fantastic for a quick stir fry dinner. Because of the intense heat the meat actually seals, not braises. Easy to clean and good non stick surface, although it is only a couple of months old. Good heat and good control of heat
Home cooked asia – I tossed an electric frypan in the wheelie bin, seen better days. Was on Breville website and decided on the Breville hot 6 litre EW30. used it for the first time last night.Chinese chow mein 3/4 filled the bowl, seares the meat lovely without stewing.Gave away my slow cooker this wok will do that as well. Looking forward to lots of Asian type and… Read more
slow cooking food.I purchased from Retravision,S.A. for Just $99 instore special price.Cleans up effortlessly and the thick no stick surface a beautie.Well done Breville Everything about the Hot Wok 6lt. superb.
Terrible – Nice unit when it works, however from my experience I would suggest there is an issue with the design. Word to the wise, steer clear of the EW30. Good Size, Easy to clean and gets a lot hotter than a standard wok on an electric hob which is ideal for larger dishes. I have owned two of these Woks, the element went on the first within the warranty… Read more
period and the unit was replaced with minimal fuss, however the element then blew on the replacement unit after 14 months of use and I am now out of pocket with no Wok.
Excellent – I loved this so much that I got one for my Mum and she loves it too. You can cook a meal in as little as 5-10 minutes. It gets very hot very quickly and is very easy to clean. The recipe book that's included has some great recipes too. Incredibly fast cooking time. Great for quick after work cooking. Show reply
