I had a comprehensive motorbike insurance, price was great compared to other insurers. Someone smashed my bike when parked. Called Budget Direct, towing car was there in 30 mins, bike was a total loss, the process was very smooth, got updates until I got paid out. They paid very decent market value as well. Online set up isn't as easy as it should be – The insurance is better value than what others are offering, but the online self serve process is impossible if you are doing more than one bike. So you ring up and they can't offer the same price over the phone. Very poor customer experience tarnishing a potentially great overall experience. Show details ·  1

Motorcycle comprehensive insurance – I have two bikes insured with budget direct. One a 1998 ZX9R and the other a 2017 GSX750R. As an older rider the rates and service I receive from budget direct have been pretty good and very hard to beat. Show details ·  1

Great value for money, really easy to set up online. I haven’t made a claim yet so am unable to review that process but getting insurance in place was really easy and price was better than the competition. It would be great if they could offer breakdown cover for bikes as well in the future but only cover cars at the minute. Show details

Gob Smacked like a frozen fish across the faces – Worse experience of my motoring life of 47 years. Insured a third vehicle , first time claim for a not at fault minor incident. investigation as we had not disclosed the performance approved airfilter.. This department spoke to me as if I had been caught doing something illegal or part of a rebirthing ring. It was relentless , subsequently cancelled all 3 policy and dealt with the at fault drivers insurance company direct who were delightful and professional. Vehicle was fixed to a high standard within 2 weeks as opposed to 6 weeks given prior . The lowest premium can come and bite you when you go to call on them. Be careful insuring anything with this organisation

the motorcycle claims team directly. In order to provide more information or get updates you have to call the main call centre & speak to someone (who generally has no idea about motorcycle claims), then wait (sometimes days) for someone for the motorcycle claims department to call you back. It's an absolutely ridiculous system that makes everything twice as difficult.

Once the claim was submitted it took several weeks for an assessor to look at the bike, but in the meantime we were told that considering the significant damage to it, it would probably be written off - so given that my wife is a relatively new (around 2 years) rider & not wanting her confidence to be seriously affected by not being able to ride for a long time, we went out & bought her a new bike. Several weeks later after the assessor finally got round to looking at the bike we found out that it was being repaired.

We finally got the bike back in mid April & when we went to pick it up it couldn't be ridden because the chain was so tight it had no freeplay in it. In fact, despite the repairer claiming they had test ridden it, when they went to adjust the chain (after I pointed it out), they found the adjuster on the left side was loose due to the wheel being skewed from the original crash. When we got the bike home I also discovered numerous scratches & marks that hadn't been repaired & they also hadn't fitted a rear reflector. I ended up going over the whole bike myself, checking everything & ordered & fitted a new reflector because it just wasn't worth the hassle of trying to deal with BD to get it resolved.

We have since had zero follow-up from BD - no phone call to see if we're happy with the result, or any other contact. I guess that's why they're cheap(ish) - as long as you don't have to make a claim or speak to them they're fine.

finally towed it. Their repair shop not even yet sent the photos of my motorcycle to be assessed by the insurance team to start repairs. They have quoted me another three weeks or more of wait time before I even get my motorcycle back. Can't attest to their car insurance but motorcycle is absolutely horrific. Not worth it whatsoever save your money.

Cant get a simple answer for a simple question – Hopefully someone at budget direct is reading this... question I had already entered in the portal. When I ask why, they give me a [Content Removed] answer that its for their privacy protection. So when I asked what my details have to do with their privacy protection, they default back to saying if I dont answer their questions, they cant proceed. So I explain that I have already answered all the questions and the answers are right there, please stop wasting both our time asking the same repetitive questions of which the answers are already there. So the operator says they acknowledge that I have already answered the questions however for their privacy protection we cant proceed if I dont answer... So this went around in circles 3 times before I gave up and hung up.

Honestly I would rather pay more with another insurer who provides a better customer experience and doesnt waste so much time asking the same questions over and over again, of which the answers are right there in front of them.

And yes, we had already verified I was the same person who submitted the quote, there was no chance of anything dodgy from my part. Just a waste of time from BD.

Shockingly Incompetent Insurance – I own an Aprilia 660 which I purchased brand new last year for $17000. I left it in a shopping centre and thieves tried to steal it causing it to become unridable. Having been insured with BD for over a year comprehensively I contacted them to report the damage after speaking with police. They told me they would get a tow for it. The next day… Read more

I noticed it sitting in the carpark so I called them again and was told it would be towed.

It sat there in the carpark for over a week while BD requested things like my drivers licence, $600 excess fee, the back of my drivers licence.... apparantly they were unable to use the licence details I already gave them or ask for all this stuff when I first called.

It was towed next to my work to a wreckers, I could see it sitting there for another week in the rain uncovered. The bikes ignition bolt was removed and the cover lifted up in the attempted theft so all the electronics were exposed. This was during the severe thunder storms we had in Sydney just recently.

Its been 3 weeks, 2 emails, 4 phone calls and $600 in Ubers to get to work and I still have no idea where my bike is now, when it will be repaired or when I will get it back.

And they're sending me texts to say my payment is overdue - its not, Im simply refusing to pay to insure it while I have zero control over, nor posession of the vehicle - if it gets damaged while they posess it they are responsible for that not me.

More than a month now, dont know where the bike is, what is happening with it, when I'll be getting it back. Mediation was basically a waste of time.

Edit 2: Budget Direct refunded my excess which I have to acknowledge as a positive however previously during a phone call they told me they would pay out my bike and give me salvage rights. They have reneged on that and my bike is now waiting to be 'assessed' for repairs. Months of waiting and its still not even assessed...

Edit 3: 19/02/2024 Still no bike. Still waiting. AFCA now involved.

Edit: 30 March 2024 Budget Direct have now had my bike so long (close to 5 months) the registration has expired. This was simply to replace an ignition bolt and a plastic panel cover. I have now hired a solicitor.

DO NOT IMO EVER INSURE ANYTHING WITH THIS COMPANY.
