We have insured our Winnebago Nullarbor with CIL for the past two years. It was recently broken into, panels damaged and water got in. Update 5/7/26 Discovered this policy is actually a home and contents Insurance policy of which we DO NOT HAVE WITH APIA as they would not insure us (flooding)!due to area floods two years ago .... (10/6/26) Put in claim for hot water service sent all the required paper work, photos, quote then told to go ahead and get it fixed.$1,200.00 About two months later I get a phone call to ask me to resend paperwork as they apparently lost it. Last week I saw my bank statement and that our Insurance had gone up, no notification nothing, so I rang them and was told it was due to this claim, which reminded me it was never paid out so I told them that and was told that
"Whether it was paid out or NOT because I put in a claim my insurance increases"
so thought well I'll chase up the claim only to be asked YET again and if course I no longer have the damaged photos after 8 mths, so NO CLAIM but HIGHER PREMIUMS

I was on hold for over an hour and CIL hanged up on me, this is unprofessional and not good enough.
GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, I WILL – A truck driver hit my new van and drove off leaving a smashed wing mirror, rendering the vehicle unroadworthy. looking sheepishly at the damage before driving away I am yet to hear back in regards to a refund. I had to do all of the leg work because both the Police and insurance company do not seem interested. I have now been on hold for a very long time to speak to the recovery department but think I will need to look into recovering the recovery people as no-one seems to be home. Also I have not been assigned a person to deal with this, every time I call I have to retell my story. I would not recommend this company.
Worst insurance company EVER – Had our mobile home catch on fire in Nov '22. It took them 2 weeks to organise getting it towed for repair and only then because I had called multiple times. No follow up no communication from them. I called them after 6 weeks and they didn't even know where our vehicle was and asked if we knew. service which stretched out over 9 months. Finally 9 months after the accident the claim has been finalised, but I only because I continually emailed and complained. Then I see all this time for doing nothing they are still taking out my premiums every month and I'm told by the claims Dept that if I want them to stop I have to contact them myself which I did, only to be told I'm only entitled to 1 months refund. To lodge a complaint I would need to go to the claims Dept because if sales took the complaint it wouldn't go anywhere. Now to add insult to injury I've just been on hold to them for 51 mins to get a voice recording telling me they can't take my call right now to call back later. To say I'm furious wouldn't even come close. DONT EVER USE THIS COMPANY

We had to claim with CIL due to hitting a low hanging branch on our van. We had never claimed before with any type of insurance so wasnt sure of the process, but CIL was so straight forward. Would highly recommend, and still have our van insured with them.
Insured two vans now always nice to deal with over the phone, they make the process very easy. My parents had a claim and it was fixed within 2 weeks hassle free. By far cheapest caravan insurance on the market.
Just purchased a Avan Motor Home in NSW and insured it with CIL. Purchased the vehicle in NSW and drove it back to Adelaide. Just out of Bathurst a Semi sent a rock that hit the windscreen resulting in a crack about 250mm long. I rang CIL re. repairs. English and was easy to understand, arrangement where made imeadiatley for a new windscreen to be installed by Windscreens O'Brien, apointment made for the following day. New windscreen fitted problem fixed. Given previous experience with various insurance companies I could not be happier with the servive that I recieved from CIL insurance and would certainley recommend their company. Allan Semmler.

Why does it take CIL claims hours to answer the phone? And why does it take CIL claims 15 business days to reply to an email? They are not the cheapest insurer - I expect better service than this when paying $1600 a year for insurance!

I have not had a problem insuring my caravan for the last 4 years in the road. Now CIL tell me that they will insure my caravan yet as it is parked at a caravan park it will not be covered at all. To make matters worse, one consultant tells me something completely different to the previous one. My advice is to find another insurance provider. CIL are appalling.
There are bad insurance companies, there are terrible insurance companies and there is CIL. They are in whole other level of incompetence. Do yourself a favour and stay well away from them ( and from people insured with them) for your own good! 2 months since someone insured with them and I'm still trying to get my car fixed.

members of the public had access to it & ransacked it & stole all of my electrical goods. It was turned upside down, completely trashed inside. They left the window open so water got in. CIL NEVER answer the phone, I’ve spent hours & hours on hold!! I’ve lodged complaints but there’s zero sense of urgency. Their hours of work mean you can only ring them through the day (when I’m at work) & then spend all that time on hold. AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS!
Have had comp insurance with CIL for about 4 years over 2 vans. Never made a claim until today. determine if it is wear and tear I would have to organize and pay a tow to Katherine and then get a report to show if wear and tear or not . Left me stranded and left me to look after it all.I will not hear from them until I have found a repairer and send a damage report. I will have a new insurance company by Monday. They may be cheaper but will cost you in the long run. Stick with reputable company even if it cost more. They make the rules up as they go to prevent paying out.
Follow Up Review After a long and drawn out affair we finally got reimbursed for costs of our tow and for repairs to our van. We had to pay all expenses and organise all repairs. After the report was done for the van it took 3 weeks just to be approved and then about the same to be reimbursed. CIL were terrible to deal with , I spent hours on hold waiting to talk to someone when needed with no updates or any other correspondence from CIL. The whole process took about 3 months ,when travelling, this is outrageous to be expected to wait around that long. The only good thing is the engineering company that did repairs is an approved repairer so life time warranty on the repair. My opinion of CIL has not changed and I would never have any connection with this company ever again. The reluctance to pay a claim has cost a lot for them I have told my story to friends and family and I know of 3 van owners who have changed from CIL to another insurer.

Wanted a quote for comprehensive motorhome insurance. Can't submit via online form, have to call and go through lengthy time wasting "creating an account." Umm, I don't want you to have my details unless I decide to go with you.
Bad company do not use them – My kids had insurance with them and basically they ripped them off telling them it was comprehensive and then saying it covers them for nothing when a structural issue arose. They are left paying a loan out on an unusable caravan that was not covered for mechanical, structural or anything else. People READ THE PDS CAREFULLY they are shonks!
Checkout cil referred repairer – CIL will try to push customers to a certain repair company to do a CARAVAN FIX.this repair company has very poor reviews read for your self.the cil assessor wanted to cut our repair quote back by nearly $2400 .i told him take the van elsewhere for repair then.still waiting for response.they really are messing customers and repairers around
New Policy – I haven't had to test claiming but I had a young man called Andrew who was excellent with great customer service skills. Thankyou Andrew, I'd ring all organisations confidently if the customer services officers were all like you.
What do I pay them for? – I made a claim seven weeks ago. It took two weeks for me to find a repairer to do a quote for me. Five weeks later it seems the repairer has submitted the quote twice yet cil have yet to receive it. Don’t bother emailing because you won’t get a reply. Be prepared to wait a long time in the phone queue there must be a lot of unsatisfied customers at the moment.
Because of where I live – I wanted to insure my new caravan but they wouldn’t insure me because of where I live. I am in a complex outside of a championship golf course but because a few of the units in the complex are rented as holiday homes, I will not be considered. non existent customer support – Trying to get a quote but after several attempts of waiting over 20min for them to answer I gave up and emailed them. This is the response I got complete with crap spelling!!! "Thank you for contacting CIL. Unfortunelty we are unable to provide a quote over email, you will need to contact 1800 112 481 and a specialist will be able to assist you once avaliable. We are currently quiet busy so there will be a wait time."

emails don’t get any response, not even an acknowledgement. My travel plans are totally messed up. I won’t be renewing my policy with them but will look for another insurer.
