cobra fish n dive battleship – got this one a couple of weeks ago & I very quickly formed an opinion on this yak cus what you see is what you get OK the specifications Length 3.8M Width 91cm Weight 25kgs Material linear polyethylene Max load 272kgs First impressions Not the fastest yak ive ever paddled (but certainly not the slowest either)& without a doubt the… Read more
most stable by far even I (minus ankle joint have problems balancing )could stand up on it & that is a first.Once momentum was built up it cruised well with an acceptable amount of effort & though there is no rudder it paddles fine & is quite nimble around obstacles I would be happy taking this yak 2 or 3 Ks offshore may not be the first to arrive but it will get you there & cope well with adverse conditions.
The layout
Plenty of storage with strapping at the front then a half seat (would be ideal for taking your son out but on both occasions I paddled it a pool of water formed in the recess so perhaps the better half would not be so impressed its a pity there is not a scupper hole here) mid yak there is a large square hatch secured by 4 locking handles but with no fixed attachment to the yak I would pimp a couple of stainless hinges on the front or a chord to make sure its not lost at sea, inside is a useful plastic box almost the size of the hatch (for sandwiches or live bait tank ?)& plenty if room & capacity to take tents etc etc for camping out a while.Large tank well at the rear of the yak though unlike the dry main section it does take in some water through the scuppers so if it needs to be kept away from the briny use waterproof containers.
2 rear flush mounts rod holders are standard but the front flush mounts are excellent being far enough forward they did not interfere with my paddle stroke & its always good to see the rod tip when trolling.Another nice feature is the built in hull recess with molded in screw attachments to safely mount a lowrance/eagle transducer to give the best possible wet mount.
OK now for the negatives a bit of rear hull slap & I thought the foot wells a bit narrow (one ankle is always big so I notice this allot more I suppose) .
Its well put together with a nice finish & when I was drilling to install the (2)starports could feel how durable & tough the material is.
To summarize plenty of capacity mid speed & solid as !!!!! .
Pommy Nigel useful front rod holders & very stable narrow foot space rear hull slap
As much as I'd love a Hobie PA, I wouldn't swap my Fish n Dive for anything – Great experience from the get go, I purchased my fish n dive from Melbourne Kayaks in Glen waverley. Mine was set up with seat and paddle and the moulded well for fish finder is the best thing in any fishing kayak. Comes with flush mount rod holders that I added PVC pipe to elevate. I've added another hatch and railblaza rid holders as well… Read more
