One of the best bits of camping equipment I’ve ever bought – Don’t know why some folks have trouble with these units ,it’s been one of the most reliable camping items I have bought , I got a great hot shower everytime using the disposable cans & the 8 kg bottle adaptor , I bought all the accessories available for it & never had any issue at all , my only guess is they don’t read instructions or are rough as… Read more
guts with it or some folks just have no idea what they are doing ,I bought it as I have a mate who lives on a block in his caravan ,he has had his for 5or6 yrs& has never had a issue , I was impressed so much I bought one & 3yrs of regular use later it’s never let me down ,just one helpful hint keep the battery charged & it’ll last yrs & be reliable ,I’ve had no temp fluctuation issues & when we use it 4 people shower with it daily ,hot drinks & dishwashing etc ,I look after my unit & store it properly never put away without ensuring it’s drained completely & put in the carry bag
Disappointed – We bought two worked for a couple of showers both don’t work can hear the gas light for seconds no water pumping I’d like a replace meant but do not have recipes we are a big fan of Coleman this has disappointed us
I have two one caught fire and the other won’t turn on after being charged – Brought one snd it won’t turn on after fully charging.brought another and it’s Absolutely dangerous. Caught fire and exploded in my face and melted unit and burnt me . THESE ARE NOT SAFE

Was the only Reliable, convenient Gas portable system that I trust to use – I have brought and sold straight away other types due to dangerous aspects. Including bulkiness flame and inconvenience. The Coleman's on demand discontinuation, was a big mistake, leaving some customers in the learch. Show details
This is a great water system – Bought this unit around 8 years ago and always worked everytime the battery just started failing on it so going to buy a new one but never had one problem and I have done some nasty things to this machine even left it out in the rain by accident I dried it off and bam started no issues Show details
Fantastic product – We've had ours for about 18 years and never missed a beat. I think I've had about 4 batteries in that time (I always carry a charged spare). Only ever used either rain water or town filtered water and it has NEVER failed us. Does use a bit of water to get to temperature but we save this in a bucket and use for other things. Simple to use, our kids… Read more
grew up with this unit and had no issues. Last thing, we still have it and it's still going as good as the day we bought it.
Negative reviews
piece of crap – used it once, got it out and screwed the gas bottle to it and the regulator just crumpled like chalk. $350 down the drain. spoke to the chick at coleman and although she sounded good, wasn't much help. Show details
My experience is not a good one – Used it about 4 times. Lights are on but will not work. No authorised repairer. My experience is not a good one. I do however have a friend who used one for years and was happy with it. I will not be buying another one. Show details
Caught on Fire – Unit Worked ok until it caught fire. Regulator is cheaply made and leaked gas out around the pressed edge. No replacement parts available.Lucky to have heated 50 litres of water. Show details

Never missed a beat – We have had our Coleman foe about 12 years. I wonder if the new models are faulty, this one was a beaut. We have used it for 2 to 5 weeks every year and had no problem at all. Show details
No repair support – It looks like Coleman continues to not support its products. I also called for a repair after my unit stopped charging. They said they discontinues the product and don't have anywhere the does repairs, nor do they carry spare parts. For a system that is only a few years old, it's a clear like of care for the people who are using their products. I've switched to Aquacube now and hope that I get better service. Show details
great product – Have had mine a few years now, with 4 kids for showering, washing up never missed a beat and was brought second hand..... have had it about 5 or 6 years in out soft floor camper and now our van works well on and small coleman gas bottle and of our main 9kg bottle Show details
Absolute rubbish – I used mine about 3 times then it wouldn't work. I tried everything and ended up throwing it in the dumpster at Lake Catani campsite. I do regret not taking it back to the camping store at Merimbula, but I was so angry at the time. A waste of money. I expected more from Coleman! Show details

Crap – We have used our shower only 4 times we have replaced the battery and it worked for 2 showers then wouldn’t work...it says it’s fully charged but it won’t work...I want my money back...the only thing is I have lost the receipt...we bought this brand new and have nothing but trouble with it since...it still been looks brand new. I’m certainly not a happy camper literally. Show details
Never buy another – Iv had nothing but trouble from day one, I even talked my mate in getting one on the same day and he’s not a happy camper either .the fuse has gone several times as has the igniter, can’t stream 1 set temperature it always fluctuates so when it does work you spend more time trying not to scold yourself or being surprised by cold water just kicking in. Waste of money wish I had been warned Show details
disappointed – Put a propane fluid bottle in coleman turned the regulator on and caught fire near propane bottle dangerous could of exploded first time use been in cuboard few years but should not do that..I want something done about this .My warranty has run out it still new as i havent used it for camping just tried it and caught… Read more
fire.I called the coleman office to see what can be done im not laying the responsibility on anaconda but will let them know
Colman hot water system – The colman camping portable hot water is not a good investment unless you use it often it is too complicated to remember how to operate, the battery is flat when needed it and a bucket of water dumped over your head is just as good and more cost effective i would not recommend it. Show details
Impossible To Repair – I bought the initial product 3 years ago and stopped working after few months and not much use at all. They replaced the hot water by a new one. Last month (out of warranty) it stopped again. Cannot ignite. When I called Coleman to know where I could go to repair, I was told rudely that there is no repair location and they don't want to know. They do not support what they sell. Do not buy their products. It is robbery. Show details
Awful product. Faulty since day one – I've purchased this unit Feb 2015. Short time after the purchase it stop igniting. In the middle of camping. It took Colman about a month to send me a new unit. The new unit worked twice and then did the same exact issue. This time along with faulty pump. This time it took them only two (2!) months to send it back saying they fixed it and it… Read more
was just a pump.
2 months to find a pump was faulty. Great service. No doubt.
Now Colman would not take any responsibility if the unit develop a fault the third time.
I get that, if they keep on stalling the 3 years warranty period will pass and it will not longer be their problem.
350$ down the drain for me.
Great service from Colman.
I could buy some cheap system on eBay, with the same type of reliability for third of the price.
Will never touch Colman again.
I got a new model from BCF, and it has never worked properly, lights up water gets hot and 20 sec la – New model has issues, won't stay on switches off within 20seconds, every time, ever but there products again.it looked small and compact but it's got problems, if you tighten the gas bottle up tight it won't work, leave it loose sometimes will but most times lately it won't, I don't like it at all. Great for camping – We purchased this Coleman hot water heater for camping. It works well and uses little gas. It would have been better if it used the $2 (or cheaper) disposable gas bottles as opposed to their own design. Almost instantaneous hot water from the unit. Good size for packing on a trip. Show details
Pump sticky – We found the pump propeller seizes each time we wish to use it when it has been stored for a couple of months. Now we know - we use a screwdriver to lever and turn the pump a few times. It has blown a fuse (4A) so now carry a spare. We've replaced the 6v battery once and the 240v charger faulte so now only have the 12v charger. When charging the unit cannot be used. Think using a 6v supply seems silly. 12v would have been more flexible. Show details

Used 3 times, caught on Fire! – Not impressed, purchased in April 2006, used it 3 times in the 10 years I have owned it, on the fourth attempt, hooked it up, made sure it was all done correctly before ignition, turned on it & it immediately caught fire...not happy at all, I opped to purchase all of the optional extras & the case to make sure it was always safely stored , and it… Read more
was, it's always been looked after & never knocked around... Well over $400.00 at the time of purchase. I strongly suspect it is a fault that has been known about for some time as after hours of research, multiple owners appear to have had the same issue with the HWOD! I'm well aware this product is now 10 years old, however $400+ for 3 uses, is unacceptable. I do not Recommend this item & I will not purchase a product from this maker again!
Cannot fault it – Use it twice a year for a week in a row. Showers 6 people each night for a whole week. I recharge halfway through the week to make sure battery is okay. Never failed on me. I set it up outside a double ensuite tent. My kids are 7 and 8 and they can operate it for my while i am in the shower. Show details
When it works, it fantastic – Does anyone know who can fix the unit. I have freed the impeller, and it now heats, but leaks. I don't want to buy a new one. This just needs fixing. The o ring is hard to find . Can anyone suggest a good repair person for me, as I need this fixed. Show details
great shower – we have had our hot water on demand for 3 years and have no complaints however this trip away after 2 showers low battery light came on...no drama hubby recharged with inverter only to have sane thing happen next night.Thinking oh well 3 yrs same battery obviously we need to replace, travelled some ks to purchase replacement still low battery… Read more
light came on and water is cold drrrrrr it was empty gas cylinder NO WHERE in the trouble shooter page is this mentioned...could have saved us a lot of cold showers and running around maybe u could mention this
coleman water heater – stored this unit after being used regularly for ten months on an extended road trip and it will not work at all, replaced the battery and the gas supply but to no avail it is defunct and no after sales repairs from anyone. now i know why they have been discontinued a similar unit now costs half the price and remains reliable.
Brilliant! Camping just got a whole lot easier! – Has performed brilliantly; no problems. Bought it on sale for camping, but our hot water system at home died before we had a chance to use it camping ........ So while waiting for a new solar hot water system at home (several weeks), the HWOD has been awesome. We bought the shower attachment, took the shower head off and replaced with standard hose fitting to connect to aqua cube shower stand.
Camping with style – bought this couple of weeks ago, took her out with us when we went camping and she is just fab, hot shower oh yeah, you can also use it for hot beverages, we bought ours for showers and works fantastic only thing you need to be quick goes through water quick.
Great hot water for shower – I have used as shower. Yes shower head adapter ($20.00) is extra and pressure is low but it is a "Portable Unit" have used for 6 months in shed situation works perfectly. Just need to rig a holder for shower head . Charge lasts about 6- 8 showers (kids 2!) I found the temp control is OK and you can get a reasonable consistent temp. Gas Cylinders… Read more
last about 15 -20 "short" showers The supplied container ok for 1 or 2 showers, I use a 200L olive drum and dunk the suction motor in there.
The 12 volt cigarette adapter works off car or 240v transformer to charge battery for pump. You do need to have a high place, rope, bracket or shelf close to sit unit on as shower lead isn't that long. Need to have ventilation during operation. All in all I'm very happy with product.
only average when it works – The ridiculous idea of having a 6 volt system when a 12v would have allowed the unit to run off most vehicles as with the aqua cube No spare parts available from Coleman and the flow sensor often goes awol on these you can bypass the sensor but then the water gets super hot too hot to shower off Quite frankly with the space these things… Read more
take up you are better off heating a large bucket size pot of water and buying a powerful 12 v durable pump and showerhead from a marine shop and having a decent shower
Not great for showering – Only way i have found to get a decent shower is to use open container of water let shower head run into water to warm it up there is no in between heating for a normal shower you will either have very very hot water or cold using coleman water container is a waste of time
I expected more for $199.95 "On Demand" system – Heats water up after a few seconds delay. Didn't time it, but the 20L collapsible plastic container feels to only have enough water to run continuously for 1-2 minutes. 1st time the Missus used it, ran out of water mid-shower (that didn't go too well, but I survived). Also, the $20 shower head attachment has no way to adjust/momentarily turn off… Read more
the water flow. So, when the Missus have shower I have to stay outside the pop up ensuite and be ready to turn off/on the Coleman HWOD as she needed. This is a bit tricky when you have 3 kids running around the camp site. For myself, as the Missus is taking care of the kids, I have to do the "On Demand" thing myself, I.e squat down and reach my hand out out from the bottom of the pop up ensuite to adjust the HWOD. In winter, I'd expect a lot colder air to blow my legs as I do this. To do a water efficient shower, I used 1/2 of the collapsible water container, while the missus would make the suction pump run a full container dry, until sucks air as well. In all, it equals to a lot of water re-filling to shower the whole family. Luckily I picked my tent site next to the water tap. From reading other reviews, next time I'd try using the HWOD to fill up a separate water container that has a large inlet opening, and my other $20 shower head that has a submersible pump attached to it (the 5 cm diameter x 10 cm long sub-pump doesn't fit the inlet opening of a standard 25L water container). At least this shower head has a dowel to adjust/stop water flow. Hopefully my 1200 Amp jump start battery can provide enough power to run the sub-pump to shower the whole family. When on special, half the price of its competition. Makes hot water in a few seconds. Don't have to wait for kettles to boil. Only have to walk 2m from tent to have a shower instead of 100-200m. Can take Missus to camp sites without hot water shower, just need water tap. Cumbersome to use as per above. Shower head can not adjust water flow. Collapsible water container have a 2-3 cm inlet opening that's hard to refill, and needs to be refilled many times, sometimes mid-shower. Not good value for money for the functionality of a stove + kettle + pump.
Excellent in every way – This unit I got in 2004 and I used it for 2 yrs for my carpet cleaning business . I had the Coleman connection to run it of the mains water and gas was off a 4kg bottle and the time it took to fill my 60ltr machine I was able to vacuum and set up hoses, now I used to do at least 3 jobs a day mind you and it work perfect. It was like any new toy… Read more · 1
just need to play with it, if it was some mornings below 10 degrees I found pouring cold water over the bottle to stop it from freezing up Untill I got a insulated bag to go around the bottle and it fixed my problem. It is now 2013 and was 4mths ago I went camping and it did not run properly so I called Coleman for a service Centre in Perth and was told to go to Decaps in Cannington, they told me throw away and buy another it would be cheaper than them looking at it so I took it Hme and left it in the shed. After using it for 5 days a week for 2 yrs and them 4 times a year camping I think it did as good as I could expect. When cleaning up my shed this week I was thinking of throwing away and getting a new one as I have all accessories then I found the manual and in the back it said warranty for the life of the product if you have the receipt which I did, so one phone call to Kmart and the lady at the time said sorry nothing has that sort of warranty so I called the phone number on manual Coleman in Sydney and they said they would get a sales rep in perth to ring me, on the same day he rang me and said don't worry about Kmart bring it to me and we will replace free of charge. Obviously I went the very next day and Kile met me and handed over a brand new one and took the old one away. Now that is Service at its best not only that talk about standing by your products. Half of all my camping gear is Coleman and now on anything else I ever buy will be Coleman.(wish I had that sort of service and warranty on my car ) I will say as I was on my way home I received a call from Kmart and they asked me if I had got it sorted and if not come in so they followed up my queries so I am happy camper again. And no I do not work for Coleman but wish I did. And lastly coffee any time only problem need long life milk pods because milk from the fridge drops the temp to much and I like hot coffee no warm. Reliability, 180ltrs water before recharging battery, hot enough for coffee, quicker than a billy. Would like a telescopic arm or a section that can bend slightly were water comes out.
Absolute garbage less than one star – This was our second unit. Stupidly I gave first one benefit of doubt. $750 down the drain, they are rubbish!!!! Show details
