DONT BUY ONE
Don't bother - absolutely no back up service! – Bought a Crossfire Rubicon 500 4 x 4 in mid-2012 for our farm. Ok value for money with were initially happy with it for the price. Only used on the farm for spraying and carting buckets of feed and bales of hay to the stock. No rough country thrashing. All good until we needed to service the bike about 18 months later, rang to order basic parts… Read more
- told I had to email - no responses. Chased up 3 or 4 times before I actually got them sent. Groundhog day again this year - needed a new seat and the handbrake cable snapped one cold morning when I started it leaving the front brakes jammed on. Can't use it as you can smell the brakes burning, (which have just recently been replaced). Rang first and told to send an email, which I did and after two weeks of no responses finally rang and someone answered the phone. Explained I had been without the quad for some weeks - was not used for weekend joy but work - and need it on the farm as I am a 50 year old female 5'2'' high weighing about 50kg that needed the quad to feed stock and cart fencing material around our 130 acre property on my own as my husband works away and is only home once a month. Salesman assured me the ordered was to be despatched that day and took my credit card details over the phone (something I very rarely do as I have had fraud on my cc before) but he assured me that was the fastest way to get my parts. That was Monday 8th August.
Today is the 17th August - still no parts. Rang and the phone was answered by a woman who after asking me to hold came back to say the invoice was still there and my credit card hadn't yet been charged! Apart from being really annoyed that was cc details are laying around their warehouse, she informed me they were moving warehouses and I would have to wait at least another week (I sure it would be longer) and she didn't know where the parts were (Duh-ask someone who does!!) When I upped her about the service (did not swear or abuse her) and how it was just as bad as last time so what was that excuse, and I need my quad now as it was now over a month, she just said there wasn't anything she could (or would bother to) do about it. When I told her we were looking to buy another quad in the near future (for obvious reasons) we had considered purchasing another from them but won't now as there service was crap! Her response - " I'm not in the mood" and hung up on me!
Having read the other reviews I have heard the same complaints about the lack of quality from locals who have bought one, particularly if used for forest riding. We have had problems with the foot brake, the winch, the four wheel drive gearbox has something broken in it (our mechanic has suggested we just turn it into a 2WD, the seat catches have broken, now the handbrake/front brake cable - not enough dramas to turn us off buying one for the price but trying to maintain it is almost impossible due to the attitude of the company.
Won't touch another one with a 10 foot pole.
Not a bad quad but no backup whatsoever – Had the bike for just on 3 months now, no real issues other than things that are not tight best to go over the entire bike and tighten everything and I mean everything. I had several of the small round head bolts missing from the body work no big deal but I cant duplicate them from anywhere else, the tow ball fell of, ( was not tight) and I had… Read more
not checked it, somewhere on my property in the grass, the seat does not fit properly on the front catches, yes only small things so far but I have emails the seller on 4 occasions and have had no reply in 2 months do not return phone calls, now I am very concerned if something happens of a serious nature, will I get the same result. Also a full mechanical workshop manual is not available or they refuse to give it to you, they say it has to go back to a retailer for things like the valve adjustment, so I have to travel 450 Klms return to have this very simple job done, but I do not know the tolerances of that or anything else, service is non existant, no advice, just take your money and don not want to see you again, the warranty means nothing.
Great First big boy Quad. LOVE IT!!! – 3 months in and quiet a few clicks under the belt. So, Maintenance. Look after your machinery and it'll look after you. I've owned several off road vehicles in my life so none of this is new. Lock tight every bolt (and i mean every bolt!). Follow the break in procedure and junk the break in oil soon as you can. Replace fuel filter with a nice… Read more
aftermarket one as soon as you can,
And so far i've been left with a trouble free machine. Eats the miles. Climbs mountains. Is a serious workhorse as needed and still a barrel of giggles when you give it a boot full.
A Honda its not, but then again, it wasn't Honda price (nowhere near_) so hardly surprising.
If i had to give an honest assessment i'd call it about 2/3rds the bike for 1/2 the price.
Dealing with owner for spares was painless (running into the occasional tree demands spares :/).
All in all, great bike.
Fine for the price, but you need to be prepared for constant upkeep! – Easy to ride and tons of power. This ATV will go anywhere! Has lots of little issues typical of chinese products but can all be overcome with some tweeking if you're pretty handy on machines. Overall i'm really happy with what i paid for. Check it over regularly for things coming loose. It has a 20litre fuel tank which you could literally ride on… Read more
ALL day. I did 2 hours hard riding (90% WOT) on the beach then 2 hours riding on fire trails the next weekend and only put 9 litres in to re-fill it. Brakes are mediocre but sufficient. I think it could produce heaps more power with a bigger carbie and modified exhaust but i'll wait till it's out of warranty...Oh Yeah! Make sure you get a warranty and get as many bugs ironed out as possible in that time!!! After all this i'm happy that i bought 2 of these machines...they're heaps of fun for the price! Power, stability, price, fuel economy is absolutely outstanding. Things come loose, things fall off! Loctite all bolts and screws from new.
Great machine – Bought the rubicon 500 for our property with my husband in rural Qld. Has been very good for one and a half years, proven to be very reliable. Starts well every morning even after we didnt use it for awhile during holidays. Very happy great rig for.a.small.to.medium farm and suits us to a T Reliable, plenty of power
Not fussed – Yeap, took the Dive into the what i think is a genaration 3 or so i was told. I was explained electric fuel pump and something to do with the motor, and new 4wd computer controller. Cut to the chase use it in Mudgee on our property 6 months in has been a great machine. Goes great starts on the coldest morning . Hope it keeps going. Read some… Read more

Buyer Beware – Hi all, Below is part of a copy of a email I sent to Crossfire back on 18/10/2011, to who I think is the owner/Manager out of the Sydney office...Since this I have had no luck in pursuing these matters and have been promised a total replacement of the braking system which now is 4 weeks overdue and have had poor braking issues since delivery of… Read more
this quad.
I now have some 32 hours and 1000km on the bike and it's a constant nightmare with breakdowns and excessive maintenance, since that email I now have the following issues.
. Total winch failure,
. Starter motor failure,
. Pull start is seized,
. Tyres are of poor quality and puncture easily,
. Every nut, bolt that hasn't fallen off has rusted into place,
. 2wd/4wd activation is in-operable, stuck in either mode but will change when "it" wants to...so not reliable in 4wd when and if you need it.
In my opinion this is a soft roader quad and shouldn't be taken to seriously and is definitely not suitable to the Darwin/tropical environment.
If you need further information or pics of the bike, please respond through this site to support my claims.

Hi Adam,
Please find attached some pics of the belt and front brake line as discussed. Also attached is the latest Km & hour reading from the bike.
Just a run down on the issues with this ATV as follows & roughly in the order they were found;
Front brakes from delivery have been soft and spongy,
Cooling fan destroyed itself, replacement sent,
Latch from seat assembly falls off and is lost,
New fan fitted, will not run via thermostat and is now hard wired with on/off switch,
Digital temperature gauge works intermediary, 10% on – 90% off,
Engine miss-fires under acceleration, generally ok when cold but once warm is constantly there,
Noisy winch, stripped and rebuilt – no grease in gearbox and bushes excessively corroded,
Front brake line let go from pressure switch losing all front brakes,
Replacement line fitted and still soft brakes,
Attempted to bleed the entire braking system, starting from rear and totally lost rear brakes,
Investigation into brakes found brake line leaking between hydraulic valve and front right brake caliper at switch end,
Front upper A-arm bushes have excessive wear on both sides,
Hand/park brake has never worked even with adjustment,
Total failure of drive belt requiring towing some 30Km back to vehicle,
Alternator light comes on randomly at idle even with idle checked at correct RPM,
All this from a quad with less than 500km & 20 hours use!
One issue I do have with this particular style of quad is the amount of tyre that protrudes from the guards, even though is does look good it does throw up a lot of stones/mud both behind and forward and have been hit several times now from debris from the tyres. In particular when in muddy situations where I will get covered from head to toe with mud & shxt as well as the bike where colleges I ride with come out in a lot better condition. This itself has led me to purchase “bushranger” 4WD bolt on flares to try and combat this problem at quite reasonable expense to myself. Still awaiting these to be delivered and then fit hoping that the relatively cheap, thin plastic guards will give me enough surface area to bolt to…If there are further releases of this quad I would suggest increasing the guard width in production.
On a good note one thing that has certainly stood out with this bike is it’s fuel economy, for a 500cc single, carburetor model.
I look forward to hearing from you tomorrow to discuss further.
Regards
Andy Economical You get what you pay for.
This bike is a joke – After owning a Crossfire Rubicon for less than 12 months I have had the following problems: -fan thermostat stopped working (crossed wires so fan is on constantly) -constant gear linkage problems -fuel system is poor;filter too small, carby inadequate -four steering arms have broken -starter motor collapsed -oil pours out of overflow … Read more
-inferior back unijoints
-key would not open fuel cap, or tool box
-won't start due to lack of compression, needs engine rings amd possibly pistons
-rear transmission seal
-fuel tank full of opoxy glue, blocked filters
-seat latch broke
-cheap, plastic fittings, bolts etc
-difficult to work on, repair
-deplorable service backup
-desperately unreliable
This bike has been extremely unreliable and frustrating. It is difficult to understand how such a bike was ever released. Cheap All of the above, not an ag bike
