Davey Powermaster Eco-Series Pump – I bought the pump 4 March 2020 on the advise of the pool shop. It has already died - overheating and not pumping water. I wish I had read the reviews before buying I rang the Davey Service Technician who hasn't returned my call. My Pool shop is trying to follow up Show details

Davey Powermaster ECO Pool Pump – Do not buy!! Rubbish variable speed electronics, pool pump didn't last a week. Why keep selling a product with clear inherent faults, poor customer service, will never buy another Davey product ever!! IMO

Replaced a 1.25HP – Decided to purchase a variable speed pump. Had to rework the piping a bit, nothing like using a hair dryer for a slight bend. I have a suction side pool cleaner so i now only run this on the weekends at medium setting. The eco mode is too week to run it. Why it is good for saltwater chlorinator - running the pool 8 hours a day was not enough, so… Read more

buy running the filter on eco and extending the run time slightly works a treat. Have not required to run the pump on high setting at all. So far so good.

Lasted 13 months only – Stopped working one day, only 13 months old. Fault due to the electronics, much better off not having the electronics, my old pump was better, you turn it on, it goes on, this variable speed rubbish is just another thing to go wrong. Took it in to a so called Master Dealer 32 days ago (they could not fix and sent it to Davey). Still waiting,… Read more

kids missed half of summer and heat wave with no pool. Terrible communication from Davey, they kept telling the master dealer it would be ready, had I known it would be this long, I would have bought a new pump. Worst Experience ever.

Installation easy (says my wife) – This item was received as per arrangement to the hour. The motor is quiet and strong, working easily with the Apollo sand based forty years old filter servicing the 80,000 L pool. Operations are the duty of 11 years old grandson such as setting automatic timing, back washing and cleaning the filter. The Davey motor removed is eighteen years old , needs a wire fuse replaced and retiring to a relatives country pool.  Show details

Very good except for the weak check valve – I have had this for years and it's been low on power consumption and at the same improved water quality. Just recently it started to show symptoms of low pressure and low flow. After reading this forum and finding others have the same issues and fixed them by removing the check valve, I decided to have a go myself. There are six bolts that need to… Read more

be removed. These are the outer ones not the ones close to the motor. This allows the strainer section that contains the check valve to be accessed without disassembling the impeller section. In my case the check valve moving part had broken off and was either slowing down the impeller or simply causing a flow restriction or both. Discard this valve (and remove the fixed part of the check valve as well just in case), if your motor is below the water line and does not need the valve for priming, otherwise as mentioned by another reviewer you could install an external one. You will need a small Phillips head screwdriver driver to remove the screw holding the fixed part of the check valve to the body. Clean and re-lube the large o-ring and carefully reassemble.

Great pump, low electricity usage – Have been using this for a couple of months now. 1/5th of the electricity usage of my previous pump and i run it the same amount (9hrs/day on eco setting). Keeps the pool clean! I don't use a suction cleaner though, if you use one of those you probably need to use the medium or high speeds instead.  Show details

Performance is great, with one caveat – I quite like the pump, its reduced my power bills significantly.. The only issue I had was a very poorly designed check valve in the pump side before the impeller. its just a round disc of plastic, the issue is it thinned in a wedge across it to make a hinge. It easily breaks free and partially blocking the impeller. this will considerably… Read more

increase motor wear and most likely cause burn out.. Its fine to remove it as long as pump stays prime after shutdown.. Other wise a External Check valve would be required. If your Ecopump has low or limited flow, this may be the issue... See to it at once... Reassembly is easy just take it slow, relube and carefully the Two O rings.. Just a 17mm socket and a skill level of 6/10.. So pretty easy, just dont over tighten, its plastic not a cylinder head...

Burnt out motor after just 3 1/2 years – Very disappointed in the Davey Eco power master pool pump. On the advice of a pool installer purchased the Davey pump and after just 3 1/2 years the motor is burnt out. Talk about value for money. The pump has been well maintained and kept in an undercover enclosed. The pump was regularly inspected and baskets cleaned on a regular basis. The pump… Read more

hasn't even worked hard as there are normally no leaves being sucked through pump due to there being no trees nearby. Thought this day and age with technology that you would get more than 3 1/2 years out of something that you have paid good money for.

Excellent pump - virtually silent on low speed mode – Funny to see the review below - I also replaced a very old rusty Poolrite PM60 Quietline which had done 20 years of service pumping for my 55,000 litre pool before finally giving up the ghost. When looking for a replacement I looked at a number of options but I wanted to go with Australian made as I feel that we make some of the best pool… Read more

equipment in the world. Based on a price/spec comparison I chose the Davey Eco 3 speed.

How is it?

It is a revelation. It is so quiet that I actually went to check it a couple of times in the first day of operation to make sure that it was on. Our old PM60 was certainly audible from the lounge room (approx 12m away) but I can say that the Powermaster is incredibly quiet in low speed operation - to the point that it is basically inaudible from more than a couple of meters away depending on the ambient noise.

The water is perfectly spotlessly clear now (as per the review below my water is also much cleaner than when I was running the old Poolrite - this is due to the fact that sand filters apparently work best on low pressure - who knew huh?)

I used the medium power setting to run the suction cleaner without any issues.

My next task is to get an electrician to wire up the chlorinator and pump to Tariff 33 and run it overnight so I can save even more cash.

Basically I should have replaced the old pump years ago - I would have saved big $ over the past decade or so since we moved in but cest la vie.

All in so far it's a great pump at a very good price - highly recommended.

Good. Maybe very good – I replace my 15 year old PM60 1.5hp pump with the PMECO and within 2 weeks I finally had a clean pool again. Apparently sand filters work better with lower flow rates. I struggled to keep a clean pool since I replace the DE filter 3 years ago. PMECO is 8 star rated and keeps company with much more expensive pumps. You can install it yourself and… Read more

warranty is still valid although Davey recommends a professional installation. Many other brands will only honor warranty if installed by a trained installer. Have a look here for a list of economic pumps.

Best Investment in my pool to drop the electricity bill - Money Saver!! – I have a 55000lt (average size) fibreglass pool, running on a sand filter and I bought one of these pumps to replace my 1.5hp hurlcon standard pump about 6 months ago. I tried to do my research, but found there wasn't many reviews around hence why I am writing this to hopefully help others out. My main purpose was to drop my electricity bill… Read more ·  1

and it was either replace the pump or offsetting using solar panels (which are 3 times the price)

Installation was easy (had to alter the old plumbing to the filter slightly), pump has all the right fittings included.

Pump has 3 settings, low, med, high - Low being a lower water flow rate (using less power) to high being the same flow as most standard 1.5hp pumps (using standard 1100W power) . When you turn it on, it starts up on hi speed to prime the pump and then automatically drops to either low, med, hi - whatever button on the pump was last selected.

For normal operation I have it selected on low, which is about the same electricity as 2 lightbulbs - 165Watts. At first I had the pump running 10hrs a day, but I have since dropped it to 7hrs as the pool is sparkling clean (and considering my pool is solar heated to 29deg - its doing brilliantly without any algae) and I found my chlorine levels went up, due to the amount of time the chlorinator was on. It runs the sand filter on low speed fine (I have been told by a pool installer that the sand filters do a better job with a lower flow rate) and for backwashing or manual cleaning you run it on hi setting. I dont have an autocleaner, but you would have to run it on high setting as the flow rate wouldnt be enough to drive it (and that defeats the purpose of having a multi speed pump as there would be no $ saving). My power saving has been about $50 a month over my old pump (I live in Perth). So although they are double the price of a std pump, I estimate it will pay for itself after a year and a bit and it has a good warranty, so hopefully it will have the same longevity as a normal pump.

The pump is very quiet, outside the shed you wouldnt even know its on so you can run it any time of day.

This winter instead of turning my pool pump off and letting the pool go green, Im going to keep it running as this pump has done what I wanted - save me $$.

I hope this has helped! Energy Efficient, Saves money None so far after 6 months
