Then the drama began. The car caught in a mechanical fault during the rental period and got towed away for repair. About a month later, the platform tried to push me into accepting a 50/50 damage compensation for an engine rebuild — which came out to 3 grand on my side. vehicle before I returned the vehicle with No thanks at all !!... The Online Help(?) is little more than insulting cut and paste "we are so sorry'' replies... It's time the ACCC got involved and permanently shut down this SHAM of a business !!... Let me also add that the car was advertised as only $20 per day, HOWEVER after all the booking fees and additional charges were added at the Checkout !! it amounted to $31 per day PLUS 35 cents per kilometre, so that works out to $66 per day for 100km's !!...and that's for a 15 year old car !!...As a comparison Bayswater Car Hire have current vehicles available for $35 per day Including 100kms !!

helped me clarify booking related fees and price breakdown on 03-Sep-2025. Finally, I got the money credited back in my bank account on 08-Sep-2025. Throughout the process, all 3 representatives were courteous, empathetic, and attentive to my concerns. They responded promptly, keeping me informed without me having to chase them for updates. Their genuine care and professionalism made the experience feel personal and sincere. Though I didn't get the car, I truly appreciate their (RHEA, JIRAH, and MELVIN) dedication to resolving my issue and their exceptional customer service. They have set a high standard and I am grateful for their support.

Car does not appear to be well maintained. Oil warning came up after driving about 20km following pickup. I contacted Drive Mate via chat to ask what to do and was repeatedly told (over a period of well over an hour and a half) that their roadside… Read more

assistance team would contact me within 5 to 10 minutes. What I was told was obviously not true as I was never contacted by the roadside assistance team. I phoned them to try to escalate the problem, and also tried to phone the host (selecting to call host from their App resulted in a message that the number was not connected - I eventually noticed that there was an extra zero in the number being dialled by the app and was able to leave a voicemail for the host who did not answer the call). Eventually the host advised that the oil was probably over filled and it was ok to keep driving. Overall this episode delayed us by over 3 hours and I it had got dark so I had to continue driving at night which I would much prefer not to have to do (particularly as the headlights did not appear very bright). There is also an occasional smell of fumes in the cabin and the host has advised that this is normal (at one point my eyes started to water, and I think it was the fumes that caused that). Other issues include doors that need to be slammed to close properly or which are difficult to open in the first place, and some of the internal trim appears to be held in place only by sticky tape (which has lost much of its stickyness). I have little choice but to continue to use the van, but I would definitely not use this van or host again, and hopefully will never need to use Drive Mate again. My advice would be to avoid at any cost.

 Follow-up  · This was a 2009 Mercedes Vito van with almost 400,000km on the clock. It actually drove fairly well and the air conditioning also worked well. Terry then re direct me to another car in city. I have to drive all the way to city to pick up the van. No clear instruction given on how to pick up the van, therefore I ended up have to pay the parking fine in the parking center. He is the one who told me I can use his access card to tap in & out of the parking center, now I have to pay $100 fine for his irresponsibility. The main point is how can drivemate didn’t even bother to have a routine check on these kind of irresponsible host? And charge me $100 beforehand, without investigating the case. 2 out of 2 bookings with you guys was unsuccessful! Is this a joke? A platform to waste money and time?

sure the next time the car malfunctioned, he ensured me that when I contact customer help he will get to me since he is aware about the malfunction issue.

Second time it happened it was 10pm and my family and I were 2 hours away from home in a remote suburb. Car won’t unlock and start. Again EMMANUEL made sure he’s on phone with me and went through all possible option to get it to work. Thankfully after few attempts and troubleshoot it works..

Kudos to staff like EMMANUEL who is patient, understanding, and is able to assist in stressful situations as this. Also, i would not recommend keyless booking to avoid the risk of malfunctioning. This keyless option is NOT making it easy for anyone.

Nonetheless, thank you EMMANUEL for your outstanding support.

The car we hired was perfect for our needs. Our host was very helpful and friendly and responded quickly to any queries. I spoke to Edgar at customer service and he also was very helpful and solved my problem. Altogether a good experience and I highly recommend them.

However, be careful there are some unfair practices - I paid for two full days, but only used the car for 43 hours and when I wanted to extend the trip by 1 hour - they wanted to charge me another $15 which was half of the full day price (when I’m still using the car for less than two full days). Show details

or more. Extensions are easy to book, if the vehicle has no other bookings, 250km/ day were included in my last hire and I only needed to ensure the fuel was at the same level as it was at pickup. Note some vehicles are older and may not be aesthetically perfect but from the many different vehicles I've hired via Drivemate, I've never personally experienced any major mechanical or electrical failures during my hires. Some vehicles are newer and that generally is reflected in the owners requested price. You can hire by the hour or days and insurance cover can be upgraded with three different tiers or coverage/cost.

I not long ago returned my last hire and in my rush to do the return on the Drivemate app, I realised after the car had locked that I'd left my own car key in the drivers door of the hired vehicle. Thankfully the lovely staff Lady on the chat, sent my request for assistance to retrieve my key through to Emmanuel and he was literally onto within a couple of minutes. Immensely helpful, prompt and very friendly. 10/10 to Emmanuel for his customer service tonight. Thank you again
