8 hours of mania!! – Gave recommended dosage to our 9 week old spaniel.Soon after he started with diarrhoea,we then had 8 solid hours of mania. Our normally placid puppy could not rest taring around the house, jumping up, barking and biting until finally after 8 hours he went to sleep. Needless to say I will never give another Drontal product to any of my dogs. Show details

Upsets dog's tummy. She gets diarrhea – I am confident Drontal is effective against worms in dogs. It is recommended by our vet for this purpose. However, there is something about it that gives our dog the 'runs' (diarrhea) - and consequently she doesn't like the distinctive taste and has to be forced to eat it. The diarrhea last for several days. Consequently, we are thinking about… Read more

finding some other product. I see other reviews that talk about similar problems. After talking with our vet yesterday, I have decided to discontinue with all intestinal worming medicines - since there is now "herd immunity" in our region. I will be continuing with the annual injections for heart worm, canine distemper and other issues.

5 Month Labrador on amphetamines – Didn't realize this was even a thing. Similar to every other review (that I wish I'd read before hand); we gave our 5 month Lab the correct dossage. I was careful to be sure because the first time he vomitted and I wasn't sure if it was from his vaccine or not. Two things I think should be pointed out: 1. Why these adverse affects are not… Read more

mentioned anywere (until hindsight kicks in and you go looking) 2. Why this also appears to be a mistery to vets (I asked out vet, mutliple actually, and I've seen posts of others doing the same) and they seemed oblivious that it's an issue?? how can that be the case when 90% reviews on here are people with the same issue?

Our story: We gave him Drontal ~7pm? He did not sleep again until about 3pm the next day! Something like 18 hours of what could best be described as a dog on some sort of amphetamine, or possibly there's a reaction that triggers the dogs adrenaline to kick in?

Uncharactistic symptoms we observed (that were waaay out of character): Hyper activity, Skittishness, Extreme hunger (and he's a Lab so this was next level), Whinging and barking (all night), Generally unsettled (I don't think even he knew what he wanted), couldn't sit still/down for more than prob 30 seconds.

Not only did he not sleep, but he looked totally wired; eyes wide and no chance of settling. We attempted everything we knew (going for walks, downtime, snuffle mats, kong etc) nothing worked until the effects wore off.

Unfortunately 0 starts is not an option. Issue being; the recommendation from vets and puppy care is to give this crap to your pup every 2 weeks, then every month etc etc. So he wasn't even being treated for a case of worms, just a preventative.

Best advice would be to find another product, with caution though, there were people on other forums who had similar issues/symptoms with products other than Drontal. Just be careful.

I wish I'd read this 24 hours ago – I gave my 18 mths rescue dog the chewable wormer yesterday afternoon. This Is the first time we had wormed her. We have had her 3 months now and never had a night like last night. It was like watching the exorcist, she barked at the ceiling for approximately 8 hours over night. Nothing we did could stop her, if we tried to move her just barked at… Read more

another window and then come back to bark at the ceiling again. I have used the chewable wormer with my previous dog with no such effects, I never knew that this was a possible effect, but after last night I started looking online, and though anecdotal there does seem to be a lot of incidences of very similar events. In short I will not be using this wormer again.

Warning! – I am going to add my voice to the growing list of warnings! Do not give this to your fur child. We gave our Great Dane/Wolf Hound mix the listed dose of two chewable pellets and I have just spent the last 24 hours convinced I have killed my best friend. He went from happy and responsive to seriously depressed and lethargic in 2 hours. He is not… Read more

interested in food, will not settle and looks like he is about to burst into tears. This stuff is poison . AVOID IT.

don't use this product – I gave my 16 month old Koolie the correct dose of the chewable all wormer yesterday morning and her was restless and unsettled all day, pacing, unable to sit still - very much like these other reviews. He was also drooling. I certainly won't be using this product ever again, but did want re measure others that it does seem to pass - he is fine this morning. Show details

Avoid! – My Labrador pup has had Dontral chews 3 times- the first two were at the vet's while getting vaccinated. I thought his hours of whining after these appointments were due to the vaccinations themselves, or perhaps being over excited about a vet trip. Last night, I gave him another dose of the chewables. Oh how I wish I could go back in time. I… Read more

reckon he slept for a total of 3 hours all night. We had whining, so much whining, pacing, more forlorn whining, barking, scratching and generally being absolutely wide awake. All.night.long. My husband ended up sleeping in the loungeroom with him. When the rest of the family got up for breakfast he was STILL settling in bed for a minute, then up and pacing around, then back to bed, more pacing. He eventually settled down and slept all morning about 15 hours after the wormer was given.

My Dog Used to Love these but now can't stand it – I'm wondering if the formula has changed because my dog used to love these but now can't stand them and won't eat them. He just spits them out. I have to crush them up and hide them in his food. Show details

No complaints here – I’m surprised to see so many bad reviews here. My dog, despite not being due for another worming treatment for a month, had reduced appetite for a couple of days and then pooped out an enormous roundworm yesterday. Drontal chews were recommended to me as a quick cure and preventative treatment so I rushed out and bought some immediately. My dog… Read more

is extremely fussy and would normally refuse anything not smothered in peanut butter, but she grabbed this right out of my hand and chewed to her heart’s content. I was worried after reading these reviews that she would be a hyperactive menace for the rest of the day but she was her usual snoozy self.

24 hours later, there were no more signs of worms and she was still acting completely normal. Her appetite is back to 100% and there don’t seem to be any adverse side effects.

She is a 2.5 year old, 31kg greyhound and we used one of the “Up to 35kgs” chews.

Waste of money dog won’t eat them – I have purchased these in the past for my Spoodle & with some coaxing she has eaten them. This time however, she wouldn’t touch them! Even tried wrapping them in minced beef & peanut butter. I wonder if Bayer has changed the formula? Complete waste of money. I won’t be purchasing again! Show details

Violent vomiting in 2 Viszlas – My dogs never vomit but both were violently sick, multiple times a few hours after eating their Drontal worming tablet. No wonder it kills worms if it has this impact on such robust dogs. I'll be reporting this to my vet and the retailer today. Not happy... especially given the high cost! Show details

Won't chew – I have tried twice now to get these 'chewable' tablets down my dogs' throats and no way will they eat them. Not even when they are covered in mince or ground down and mixed with egg and sugar! Won't buy them again!

Good – I have found a company whom sell this product cheaper than the pharmacy or vet so lately its been ok. This product is extremely easy to give to your dog or cat. He has never had worms so i guess this product works! So so easy to give to your dog. He thinks its a lolly! Expensive product
