I have Ekodeck Designer Series recently installed pale grey colour, and a flying fox in the tree, eating the flowers sprays urine over the deck in the evening. The tree is > 5 meters and native, protected by council etc, it leaves brown tea like marks on the deck and the standard cleaning advised does not remove it. I tested spray and wipe in a small are and that removes it but Im concerned using this regularly. Need some advice on how to address this? Will it fade over a period once the flying fox moves on after flowering has finished? what is the best way to address this and schedule?

Hi JBAus, yes you can use spray and wipe to clean your deck. Check out the Product Manual for more cleaning tips and recommendations here: https://www.ekodeck.com.au/wp-content/uploads/Ekodeck-Designer-Series-Product-Manual-V10.25.pdf We have not had any reports of our decking fading, even after 15+ years of exposure to the sun, so I can't see that being an issue. Best to clean your deck more frequently however if this is the case with the flying foxes etc.

Ok thanks for that , would something like this external link , be ok to use?

Hi, we'd recommend using warm water and dishwashing liquid or spray and wipe. We haven't tried or tested the cleaner you linked so cannot comment on it

Hi, we are looking at getting Ekodeck installed in our backyard. But I am confused with the colour. Can someone please guide here? We have dark brown bricks, covered Alfresco in beige tiles, dark brown cladding panels and now we want to cover adjacent grass area of approximately 55 sq with Ekodeck. Please suggest some options. Please note we have a Golden retriever.

Regarding colour I would go with a light colour We used a pale grey but it gets extremely hot in Summer and you cannot walk on it without shoes. We also have a dog nd grandchildren but the deck is easy to clean. If you have nowhere for the dog or young ones to play/walk be aware they will not be able to use the deck when it heats up. Personally I wouldn't be covering all the grass

Hi I am using the castellated panels for around the base of my pizza oven.

What do you have in the way of corner trims for this product.

I see other brands supply them. Do you guys have any in your range?

Hey John

I believe there are trims to go with the panels, I found them on the website under the product info.

Hi kmg I can’t find the product info on the web page

Any chance you could send the link

Thanks John

Hi John, we usually recommend using an aluminium trim that can be painted to a similar colour to match the Panels - see here: chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://www.ekodeck.com.au/wp-content/uploads/Castellated-Panel-Trims-V9.24.pdf

How do I fix the spacing difference when using breaker boards & 1 pack of boards is 1mm narrower in width than the other. 136mm verses 137mm over 36 boards the gaps are not aligned, and I end up with a 36mm shortfall at the end of the run, impossible to align the boards & gaps, looks bad

Chris R
Chris R

I'm not sure about this question as possibly need a diagram to assist. The breaker board would run perpendicular so shouldn't come into the calculation. If you need to align a series of boards maybe cut the board to suit?

Ekodeck
Ekodeck   DM

Hi Allan, Ekodeck boards are subject to normal manufacturing variations and tolerances like any other building material. The natural variances need to be worked with to allow for this. Either increasing your spacing in one section or mixing up the boards will likely be the best ways to work with these variances.

Can camo edge x clips be used to screw ekodeck down?

Ekodeck
Ekodeck   DM

Hi Ash,

We haven’t tested the Camo Edge Clip with our Ekodeck boards – we recommend using our Quickfix concealed fastening kits

I hope that helps!

Cheers

Hi, we just had ekodeck installed on our patio and as we placed a pot plant on a pot trolley we noticed it has left trail marks from the castor wheels allover the decking. Is this normal and can it be cleaned up as we have tried washing, but has not cleared up. Thankyou

Ekodeck
Ekodeck   DM

Hi Peter, Ekodeck Decking boards are a pre-finished product. We find marks such as these will blend in and even out over time. The product has a certain sheen to it, which after use and exposure can initially show but will even out and flatten off over time.

Given the deck is so new, we’re quite confident the marks will even out over time.

Hi, just recently installed an ekodeck and was wondering if I could use a gas BBQ on the deck. What would be the best bbq mat or should I just avoid using the bbq on the deck all together?

Ekodeck
Ekodeck   DM

Hi Justin, no issues at all mate- do you have our Classic or Designer Series boards installed? Some people put a bbq mat down, some don't. Regular cleaning should ensure you keep your deck looking at its best, especially around the bbq area I hope that helps! Cheers

Is the designer series effected or stained by bird droppings. If yes how to clean if left on a few days when home unattended ?

Ekodeck

Hi Brian, We are yet to see any staining on our Designer Series boards from bird droppings or anything of the sort. Naturally, the sooner you clean them off the better

Can Ekodeck be used as a veranda railing on top of a tubular balustrade?

Ekodeck
Ekodeck   DM

Hi Richard, Typically we have both a decking board and a screening board - which are designed for each application. We have seen people utilising the boards for a myriad of applications outside of these however, including balustrade toppers, boat rub strips and garden edging. Whilst this isn't necessarily 'recommended' nor warranted, we won't stop you using Ekodeck for whatever you want to use it for! All the best with your project :)

I am a little confused on what colour Eko Deck to pick as we live in a open plan house with beautiful Jarrah floor boards which overlooks the pergola. Have been looking in all the design magazines in which most houses have the light floor boards inside. The two colours we have harrowed it down to is Riverbank Red or Leatherwood. Can I ask anyone who have reddish floorboard inside, what colour they used for decking and if you are happy with your choice.

Hi there. I've had estate brown decking laid for around 9 months now and it seems to have faded. Even after cleaning it's alot lighter than when it was initially laid. It looks great when it's wet but once it dries it doesn't look as good. Is there something else I should be doing? I clean it as per the suggested instructions.

Ekodeck   DM

Hi Matt, Thanks for reaching out - can you send some photos across to info@ekodeck.com.au and we'll have a look to see what we can recommend :) Please also include a contact number and address as we may even send a rep out to have a look, if need be. Thanks, The Ekodeck Team

Same happened to mine as well and its only couple of months old. All the fibres are coming off as well. My one is designer series. Please advise.

Hi Raju, have you pressure washed your deck? We don't recommend pressure washing your Designer Series boards - feel free to send across some photos to info@ekodeck.com.au

Hi I just received the sample pack, thank you. Do you have honeyoak in the range of colours and is the designer range suitable for beachside areas with high salt, sun and rain conditions?

Ekodeck
Ekodeck   DM

Hi Annie, No worries, glad you like them! Honey Oak is only available in the Flame Fighter range, essentially it is the BAL (fire-rated) version of Leatherwood. Do you require a BAL rated board? If not, i would recommend going with Leatherwood from our Designer Series range. No issues using any of our boards in coastal conditions exposed to the elements, in fact they excel in such conditions. I hope that helps

Hi thanks for the information. Can the boards be laid on a steel frame and if so is this also available at Bunnings

Ekodeck
Ekodeck   DM

Yes, of course. I believe there are some steel subframes available through Bunnings, i believe spantec or steelmax ?

Hi,

I have purchased ekodeck designer series and installed a deck. After a few months we have noticed small particles rising from our deck. Is there anyway we can remove these? I have cleaned the deck according to your website.

Also, we find there is static electricity most times walking on the deck, the deck is surrounding by colorbond fencing. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank you

Ekodeck
Ekodeck   DM

Hi Joshua, Thanks for getting in touch - Which process did you use to clean your deck? During the final finishing stages of the boards, they pass through a sanding process. This can at times leave residual ‘fibres’ – don’t worry, the boards aren’t breaking down and they’re not harmful splinters or anything!

I’ve only seen this a couple of times, but it’s usually from excessive scrubbing using a (too stiff) broom, or over pressure-washing. They’ll wear off with time and use and aren’t anything to be concerned about, so don't worry!

All co-extruded composite decking, including Ekodeck Designer Series can, under certain conditions, exhibit build-up of static electricity.

The biggest contributing factors of static electricity build-up are low humidity and dry environmental conditions, the type of subframe materials used in construction and the presence of earthing and/or metal balustrading.

This can be reduced using an anti-static spray (such as ACL Staticide) - which we would be happy to send some out to you free of charge! These products are water based and may require additional applications after rain or other weather conditions. Anti-static mats or insulating touch-points or door handles with a sealer may provide a more permanent solution.

Generally, the static build-up in the boards tends to reduce over time as the boards wear in.

Cheers

Joshua

Hi, Thank you for your prompt feedback. I following the cleaning process as per your website, medium to soft Bristle brush then went over it with a pressure cleaner keeping 30-40cm clearance. I have some left over pierce and they seem to have the fibres as well so I’m sure the cleaning process didn’t make these appear.

I’m happy to try the anti static spray if you guys can send some out that would be great! The decking is on a timber frame and was built by an experienced carpenter.

Thank you

Hi, I'm thinking of replacing my existing timber hard wood deck with Ekodeck + Designer and just wanted to know if gaps are required on a 45 deg picture frame joint?

Ekodeck
Ekodeck   DM

Hi Russ, Typically we see people keep mitres tight to avoid them opening up, as they tend to do so given the natural expansion and contraction of the product - keeping them tight gives them the best chance of staying tight!

Thanks for the quick response and I'll let you know how I go.

2 questions 1. what colour in the decking material would people here recommend for a small 2 x 2 metre verandah decking that joins a Sydney bluegum timber floor? it's an uncovered area that gets full sun from the beach on the east, heavy rains & wind.. in the Wollongong NSW area.. . we are thinking to go with darker reddish tones rather than the more yellow tones in the timber as this balcony is relatively unused and may be more prone to being neglected by us etc....we are thinking Riverbank Red & not the smooth side...but the grainy side...to lessen the appearance of any scratches etc....wondered what you thought?

2. Is there anyone here who has had the boards for a number of years and noticed any fading, or a chalky appearance in places, on their decking?...I'm asking bc we saw an outdoors display board for an competitor yesterday and as this product is even more expensive than ekodeck, we were surprised to see this chalkiness on their product...wondered about ekodeck? Thank you

Ekodeck
Ekodeck   DM

Hi Georgie, Have you got a sample kit from us yet? You can order one here if not: external link  Colour is very subjective, i'd say you're the best to answer that question! We don't have any issues with fading with our boards, we've been supplying Bunnings nationally for over a decade - if we had such issues we wouldn't still be in business! Ekodeck has a proven history of performance and won't fade or lose it's colour - we recommend giving it a clean once a year to keep it looking at its best. Ekodeck is UV stabilised. What other boards have you been looking at? Happy to discuss in more detail and help where we can :)

When will Ekodeck be available again? My deck is half finished. I've been checking every Bunnings in the ACT, but none of them have had Alpine Ash in stock since at least November last year. It's getting to the point where I will have to take off the Ekodeck I've already installed and replace it with something else. Is there any available anywhere?

Kevin J.
Kevin J.

My local store didn't have what I needed in-store, but I ordered what I wanted at the Special Orders desk, and they got it in and delivered it for me.

cboc77
cboc77

I've tried that. They told me they can't order it because there is none available anywhere. Apparently there is heaps of it sitting on a dock somewhere, but problems with the Bunnings supply chain mean they can't distribute it. Which store did you get yours from? How long ago?

Ekodeck
Ekodeck   DM

Hi CBOC77, As Kevin mentioned, you'll need to place an order via either the Trade Desk or Special Orders desk. They will then ensure stock is allocated out to the store to fulfil your order. I believe all stock is going out to outstanding customer orders at this point in time

Is it OK to have all the joins side by side, all in a line, or should they be in alternate boards, asking because I am running out of boards and the stock is now not available until March, if I use cut off boards I maybe able to get through.

Ekodeck
Ekodeck   DM

Hi Arthur, Check out the following article which explains why we recommend laying out composite decking such as Ekodeck a bit different to timber, and why we try and avoid butt joints (especially random stagger!) external link  Whilst still not ideal, having all the joins on one joist instead of alternating will allow all your locking clips to be placed in the same location, allowing better management of expansion and contraction. Ideally you'd lay a breaker board in between.
