Good luck with AAI Insurance, APIA, Suncorp & the rest of the group! The will take your money but when you go to claim they will find some reason to mitigate their pay out! If it’s car insurance or household or accommodation they will try everything to railroad people into using their people! They say they are independent but they are clearly not these companies depend on the insurance company to keep their business going, these companies do a half hearted cheap job!

I suggest that you let your insurance company deal with the issue, as that is what you pay your insurance premiums for and just for the record, any damage that is more than $500.00 or more, must be reported to the police with 24 hours. I am assuming that your wife went to the police and reported the accident to the police and has a copy of the police reporting number (as it sounds like the repair costs to the other vehicle, will be at least $500.00 maybe more. She will need the report number and the name, address and phone number of the other person who was involved in the accident. Without these details, she may lose her no claim bonus. (If she has one) with her own insurance company and once again good luck, but I am NOT an employee of AII insurance.

Hi Brooke. Your car cannot be worth more than 5K if you want to use AAI insurance. Also be mindful that this insurance does NOT provide you with a loan car, should yours be in an accident and you need the use of an alternative car. That is one of the reasons I did NOT go for this insurance, even though I have a car that is worth LESS than 5k. Hope this information helps you out.

No if it is a right off then you go to VIC Roads and tell them, first you need a letter from the insurer, the insurer takes out the cost of the rego when making a right off.

Whatever state or territory you are in, you need to contact their department of motor registration branch near you, and as the other person stated above (correctly) you need to provide a letter from the insurance company, stating that the car has been totaled (e.g. cannot be repaired) and then you will receive whatever is left on the registration, back to you, minus any outstanding fees and or charges. You also have to take the registration plates of the totaled car back to the DMV and hand them over to be destroyed. You cannot keep them. Failing to hand over the plates, within three weeks of the car being written off completely can result in a substantial fine or demerit points off of your license.
