Been meaning to do this for a while. I would like to compliment the whole team at first choice Waterford. The service there is second to none. I come from a retail background so notice. Just went to the Goulburn store to buy a bottle of whiskey for a friend. I wheeled my electric scooter in as they cannot be left outside. i was admonished rudely by the Karen who runs the store. I defended myself and told her what I thought of her behaviour. She then refused to serve me saying that I "appeared intoxicated." I took my phone out and… Read more

Beware if you shop at the Glendale NSW store. I ordered a Hardys sauvignon blanc cask on-line. When I collected it, the box was badly damaged and heavily taped. When I opened it that evening, I was immediately met with an unfamiliar strong smell.… Read more

Then I saw that the wine in the glass was several shades darker than usual. The taste was dreadful. It was clearly NOT Hardys, or sauvignon blanc. Someone had replaced the original bag with something else! I've been buying this wine, in casks and bottles, for years and never encountered a problem. If this had been a first-time purchase, I would not have bought it again. So not fair for Hardys, whose wine is always consistently good.

Follow-up  · I sent an email to their head office but it bounced back with the message advising that the inbox isn't monitored. I then emailed Hardys and received a response thanking me for bringing it to their attention. They eventually got back to me and said that they'd investigated the incident and it seemed to be a one-off. However, they also gave me a $30 e-gift card to be used at either Dan Murphy's or BWS!! So I'm happy with the outcome!

I went to the First Choice Liqueur store in Duncraig to buy a carton of beer, when I walked in, I noticed a sign saying "Spend $20.00 in store and get this for $10.00". The "this" that the sign was referring to was Neds Sauvingion Blanc. I thought that was good value and purchased a box of it. On checking my receipt when I got home, I noticed I… Read more

was charged $12.00 per bottle. When I phoned the store I was abruptly told that the $10.00 offer only applies to one bottle. When I tried to explain that the sign didn't state that, and the sign itself was deceiving, I was abruptly told it says so in the small print, and that I could come back to the store, if I wanted my $2.00 credit, frustatedly I suggested it probably wasn't worth the cost of the fuel to go back to the store for $2.00, I was told by the staff member, he really didn't care, he just worked there. At that point on principle I returned to the store spoke to the lady who originally served me, and was told this happens a lot, she apologised for the inconvenience and gave me my $2.00 credit. My main gripe is what I believed to be a $60.00 purchase for the wine ended up being $72.00, as a result of what appears to be misleading advertising. Very disappointing.

Terrible recommendations they won't back up – I went into the Cannon Hill First Choice being a regular customer there. I couldn't find Heineken Zero that I normally get there and asked the Manager. He said they were reorganising the store and didn't currently have any but would recommend alternatives. So he recommended James Squire Zero and Carlton Zero which I took a carton each of. James… Read more

Squire Zero was fine but Carlton Zero was disgusting and I had to tip out the first stubby. Rang the store and got the same Manager and when I explained what happened he concurred with that. But when I asked for an exchange he said no sorry we don't do returns just because you don't like something!?! I said what even though you didn't have what I was looking for and you recommended it!?! Nope ... In retrospect I guess I should have just got a 6 pack but I didn't expect it to be undrinkable! Needless to say that's the end of my relationship with First Choice!

Excellent customer service – I tried ordering for click & collect at Hindmarsh SA but apparently I ordered for delivery. Daybreak cask wine not okay – I have, for several years, been a fan of Daybreak 5L cask wine, especially the dry white varieties. Recently this year, their cask boxes have been very weak and breaking apart. While I love the wine, their weak casks have been troublesome for me because of mobility issues. As a former Quality Assurance Officer in the food and manufacturing… Read more

industries, this would be wholly due to a lower quality glue being substituted in their packaging division. While I admire their dedication to keeping costs down, I am also wise enough to pay an extra dollar or two to support their products and packaging costs. Kudos to Coles for keeping prices down too BUT please allow the manufacturer to increase costs to ensure a minimal quality standard for their packaging. Even my local store manager acknowledged that their packaging standards are causing headaches for both staff and customers. Thank you.

Browns Plains ABUSIVE, JUDGEMENTAL Junior Staff Member – November 29, 2024 I drove my elderly mother (79 years of age) to this particular store as mum wanted to buy 2 X 6 packs of Southern Comfort & Cola Cans plus a carton of Corona Beer for Christmas I also wanted 2 X 6 packs of Southern Comfort & Cola Cans as they were on special for $28:00 per 6 pack which works out much cheaper than buying the 10… Read more

packs or a full carton for $145:00 which was indicated by store price display when we got to checkout a young woman with short very bright red hair thin round black rimmed glasses said to checkout operator to put all the Southern Comfort pack through as a carton I immediately said no, as they were two separate orders and my mother was paying for hers I was paying for two six packs only and that it worked out much cheaper she replied really? I said yes, you need to check your prices as it's almost $40 dearer that way and I feel like you are trying to rip me off, her instant reply was to get out of the store how dare I say what I did and that my mother and I were not going to be served and again yelled GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT, I'm standing away from checkout towards the exit my mother is still at checkout waiting to be served not understanding what exactly is going on by this time I have asked her come on mum we have to go a number of times ( she has early onset dementia ) the staff would not allow me to go back to get her so I stood there inside the store close to exit door asking my mother repeatedly while I was being yelled at to get out and told by this particular female staff member with very bright short orange hair ( I could not get her name as she kept hiding it when I tried to get phone out of my handbag I was approached by a very tall male), thin rimmed black round glasses that I didn't even look like someone that has a job or can afford that , I replied how dare you have you looked into a mirror you look like a dog as I had, had enough of abuse by now from her and the older woman with short white hair not very tall whom also started yelling abuse at me, by now a tall man with bright orange/red shirt came to me and assaulted me by touching my upper right arm and slightly pushing me out the store while I'm telling him I've had breast cancer twice, last week I found out I have adrenal cancer on the same days the 12 month anniversary or my younger daughters death I will be contacting management and police due to you assaulting me , IM SORRY COLES BUT YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE PEOPLE LIKE THIS WORKING IN YOUR STORES . YES IT IS THE BATTLERS THAT BUY MOST OF YOUR STOCK, THERE IS NO NEED TO JUDGE A PERSON AND ABUSE THEM ABOUT HOW THEY LOOK. I AM A SIXTY YEAR OLD WOMAN, I WAS WEARING A BLACK LONG DRESS APPROPRIATE FOR MOURNING AND I DON'T WEAR MAKE UP SO PLEASE ALSO ANSWER ME THIS? " DO I NEED TO DRESS UP AS IF I WERE GOING TO CHURCH OR A NIGHTCLUB OR FORMAL FUNCTION TO BE ABLE TO ENTER AND PURCHASE PRODUCT FROM YOUR STORES? SHAME ON THESE HORRIBLE STAFF MEMBERS, I HAVE SPOKEN TO MY DOCTOR AND INTEND ON PRESSING CHARGES.

Check your receipt – Have been a regular customer over the years and only recently been finding discrepancies in my purchases. Mistakes happen but not on this scale. My most recent was today when double charged $65.00 for a bottle of whiskey. The duty manager took charge when I questioned it and without apology said that it happens everywhere. The only way it can happen is if the item is scanned twice. Total lack of professionalism and no duty of care.

Rude, unprofessional staff – Most unprofessional rudest staff I’ve ever dealt with. I went in on my way home for a bottle of red wine. I spent about 10 minutes picking it out only for the staff member at the register to smirk at me and ask me for ID. I smiled and said I’m flattered she thinks I’m under 25 when I’m indeed 30. which she confirmed it’s fine. I showed her my drivers license and she said that form of ID is not valid and that I need a special type of license that I can “get down the road”. Dan Murphys have WAY BETTER staff and customer service.

worst retail experience in many years – I went to my local First Choice store at Runaway Bay on the Gold Coast, when I walked in I noticed that the trolleys were all chained together and to release one I needed a coin which I did not have on me-I approached the service counter were there were 3 staff members chatting. I was very upset but still not at all rude and said that I would shop at Dan Murphys and would never go to another First Choice again in my life! Policy leaves customers carrying boxes by hand – In this day and age where tap n go is the norm, a majority of people now don’t carry cash, I’m one of them. Not at First Choice, you either have coins or possess a plastic token, without either of these you cannot get a trolley to help… Read more

carry your load. Unless I get one from a service friendly store. At Runaway Bay there isn’t one nearby and the Store Manager could provide no solution as this was company policy. So I took my $200 worth of business up the road to Dan Murphy’s, a company that used to also have this stupid policy but have long since learned that customer service and ease of buying heavy boxes is best served by providing free trolleys. Or lose your customers.

also buy a bottle of wine. When I went to collect my click and collect and my adult daughter went to buy her wine legally with her ID we were refused service as my other daughter was with us. Was told they can’t serve anyone who has a minor with them, and that kids should be left outside. No signage at entry to advise customers not to enter with minors with them, and hopefully no harm comes to those who are left outside so service can be provided the next time someone returns after this same instruction, probably why there is no signage as it would make the store liable. I have been to other liquor stores (BWS, Liquorland, Dan Murphys) and even this same first choice store but during the day prior with my children with me without incident. My advice is to shop elsewhere if you have children who are not 18 yet.
