Foxtel iQ5

Forced to “upgrade” to the new box which has far less features than the box prior. Previously you could record 2 programs and watch a third, not with this one. You’ll be lucky to record anything which is one of the main reasons for having a pvr, endless clashes. It’s especially poor on the free to air stuff which we like to record to forward past… Read more
the endless adverts. On the plus side, the size of the new box is great and it’s nice to watch ultra hd but would I would gladly sacrifice that to be able to record more than one program at a time
Series Link does not work on live sport – Series link is a waste of time on live sport. If Foxtel starts a coverage on channel 501 and moves it to 505 series link doesn't follow it. The rest of the day’s sport is linked on 505 but the majority of the first session of the day on 501, as in cricket is missed. You may as well set it up manually as you can’t trust it will be recorded and… Read more
there is no warning to tell you it won't be recorded. That then leaves the question can you trust series link at all on any other linkable programs?
My previous IQ box had so many more features. On to my 4th replacement and this one continues to play up. Can’t connect to internal HD, forever having to recycle power. Absolute junk technology. Show details

Advertisement is a lie. Everything in one place - NOT !! iQ5 is reductive in technology – I am so disappointed with my Foxtel iQ5 set top box and see all the technology MISSING from this device. 1. iQ5 can only record ONE "free to air" station at a time. All previous boxes allowed two recordings while you watched a third. 2. The advertisement on TV states "Foxtel Everything in one place." but this is false as the box comes with 9… Read more
pre installed apps and you can't add anymore. Even "7 plus"and "Nine Now" cannot be watched via this box.
What were they thinking at Foxtel?? You can't record everything you want to record. You can't watch everything you want to watch.
Foxtel is not worth the price as you need another Android box to pick up the slack.

Not the best for the price – 90’s tech, long way to go to be on par with Sky tv. No dolby atmos, mostly apps that are already on the tv and old old movies and some you have to pay to rent. Not worth the monthly fee, stick to the usual apps on the tv and terrestrial channels. Show details
Awful box – I was sent this IQ5 because I requested a new remote for my IQ2. Foxtel switched off connection for my 1Q2 so when I turned my TV on I then thought that my box had stopped working. To say that I'm angry with Foxtel for doing this to me is an understatement. We connected the IQ5 thinking that there was something wrong with my IQ2. The dark grey… Read more
background and tiny printing makes up difficult to read. Watching commercial stations is a nightmare. You have to have the internet connected and download the apps for each channel then sign in with your password. It won't allow you to save programs in the library which remains empty. Not a user friendly box. I'm sending it back.
Top rated product – Had to have my iq3 replaced ,Foxtel promptly sent an iq5 replacement. So easy to set-up, far better picture quality and remote speed in its actions ,and it takes up farless space on the shelf . I rate the iq5 as very good
Overrated, canceling the service now! – - You find yourself watching the same repeat series over & over because they never add more to the series or add any new long series.... - Live TV channels are never updates/changed always showing the same shows on repeat - They make you stream series off your internet to watch stuff, if you haven't pressed record whole series and wait for the new… Read more
ones to be added. - The other day we had to pay to watch/rent the old horror movie Saw, to find out Stan had all the 4x Saw movies for free!!
iQ5 Problems – Very poor device. I keep having to reboot daily. I spoke to Foxtel a few times and they kept telling me that the problem was my remote control (which it is not as I have used three different remote controls with the same problematic result).
Iq5 garbage won't record – Been a customer with foxtel for years the iq5 is the worst box ever invented just replaced one with another new one having the same issues it won't record I'm getting annoyed as I'm paying $120 a month for garbage bring back the old boxes Show details
IQ5 when unit wont recognise hard drive – The IQ5 system/unit is a terrible product compared to the earlier IQ3, cable system. I had to get a replacement within 4 months of the original purchase and after 2 more months it began to malfunction again. However if you have to live with it and you are having difficulties in having to restart the unit continuously and in particular the drive… Read more
unit wont recognise the hard drive, and you therefore lose most functionality, here is a hack that has worked for me.
It appears the issue is the integrity of the contact point between the unit and the hard drive.
If you listen to the unit when it doesn't identify the HD it will be silent but if you place pressure on it the drive will activate and whirr.
Solution, place a weight on top of the IQ5 unit and the pressure should reinstate the contact between the unit and the hard drive
Since I have done this, after almost a year of issues including a replacement unit and hard drive, it has worked continuously with no issues or restarts required or loss of HD functions
To be safe I turn off the power each night as the additional weight may have unintended consequences
Absolute rubbish – Constantly having to reboot. 5 times tonight and still not working properly, wifi is ok while it works but we are fed up with constantly having to reset it.

Terribly unstable – The service from Foxtel is absolutely dreadful and the IQ5 box is utter rubbish. I have had to restart the box numerous times throughout the day and the apps offered also run unstable. Customer for 23 years about to disconnect for good. Too many streaming services available at a fraction of the cost. Foxtel is overpriced and still have ads playing. Show details
Foxtel iQ5 – I’ve read a few of the reviews regarding the iQ5 box. In trying both connecting via internet and also Ethernet it is not the internet provider at fault it is this S*tty box Foxtel has bought out. I’m more interested in that Foxtel has not once defended or apologies to any reviews. P*ss poor Show details
IQ 5 box – The worst system I have ever experienced. Customer for 20 years and never had aN issue until now. Keeps dropping out, fails to record always getting error notifications. Tomorrow I will also ask them to pick the rubbish up. Unfortunately I like some great shows on this format yet my patience has run out. Show details
Nowhere near as reliable as earlier iQ boxes – Have issues with iQ5 not recording programs set for later recording. Have also had to turn the power off the iQ5 several times to reset it. Last night I was unable to turn on the iQ5 with the remote until I had reset the box once again. Am also very frustrated at being unable to record more the 1 free-to-air channel in the same time slot. Would… Read more
like to have my old iQ box back as it worked perfectly. I'll hang in a little longer in the hope there will either be an upgrade for a new iQ released.
Worst iq box ever – I've gone from a great service to the iq5 which continually drops out. I have to constantly reset the box and of course it always happens at a critical part of the show I am watching. Foxtel need to go back to iq4 Show details
The service has gone backwards – Like many here, I've experienced so many issues with the IQ5 box. Most notably when 'recording' sporting event. On multiple occasions the final has failed to be recorded. Imagine watching an event over a number of days, enjoying the tension as it builds to the final and instead of being able to watch it, you receive yet another error message… Read more
from Foxtel IQ5. Of course I can watch a replay on YouTube but in searching for the event you invariably discover the results. No one wants to know who won before you have the chance to watch it, not when you're paying $$$$$ to avoid that. I've spent a lot of time on the Foxtel chat help function. Best they can do is say sorry, let me reset your box. Better luck next time. I think its time to give up on this service.
iQ5 not up to Standard & no comparison to Awesome iQ2 – Been with Foxtel for years and never had issues with my old iQ2 which was awesome. Was able to store 50 favourite channels on my iQ2 making it easier to navigate to what I wanted to watch. With the pending change from cable to wifi, was given free iQ5 upgrade. Easy enough to install but was instantly not very happy when I noticed that the iQ5… Read more
stores only 20 favourite channels. Not happy. Also noticed that I was, and still getting "recording clash warnings and resolve clash" notices when attempting to record a program & scratching my head as to why, when there was no clash at all..Last straw last Tuesday when I went to my recorded programs list only to find all my recorded & unwatched recordings had disappeared. Further problem showed up with popup notice saying unable to record. Contacted Foxtel Tech Support & after going through the mundane procedure of navigating the prompts & self automatic procedure of Foxtel trying to reset iQ5, eventually got a live person to talk with..After about 35 minutes of trying to repair the problem, it was confirmed the hard drive box had died. Was then informed a new iQ5 box was being posted and informed I would be receiving the new iQ5 on Thursday..(thinking it was being sent via express delivery)....WRONG...sent by standard post and could take up to 6 days...found that out on Thursday when I rang Aust Post. Wasted a whole Thursday waiting for delivery. There have been other minor issues with the iQ5 like it freezing and having to swith off and then switch on to restart....have rung Foxtel about 6 times with same issues. Foxtel needs to pull their socks up. Another major problem with Foxtel is the ridiculous amount of utter useless channels that they have that I would swear on a stack of bibles no one ever watches including me...I think I WILL be looking at other cheaper and better providers like Netflix perhaps.
I would give minus one if I could – I have had foxtel for about 20 years. Now I am getting rid of it , it is such a rip off. With the cable finishing, and having to go through wifi, why would I???I now have Binge for $16.99 a month with everything foxtel offers compared to paying $80 or more a month. Really Foxtel you need to lift your game. Foxtel needs to offer big improvements before I would come back to them. Show details
Upgrade – I have gone from the barely functional, stuttering error filled IQ 3 to the IQ5 as a free upgrade. The IQ5 has been a smooth and functional box. Setup was as easy as a few plugs and and plugging in the provided hdd. Stations were all picked up, as well as the 4k ultra sports channels that couldn't be used on the IQ3. The snappy menus are welcome… Read more
compared to the IQ3. This box just works.
Edit: the box has recently started shunting me to the "sign up to netflix through foxtel" page (have never used netflix through foxtel). Thought it was the remote so removed the batteries, didn't fix the issue. It did this for an hour every minute (yes I timed it), resetting didn't help. It's done this on 3 occasions now, and a few one off times..

It's garbage – Constantly recieve error messages where the only next step is to turn off the system. We moved to a hard-wired system to make internet connection more reliable, this has done nothing to help. Our original foxtel set top boxes never had issues in our old home ,but this has been a problem Consistently in our new home. Our speed test on our internet says we have enough speed to run foxtel easily. Show details
Rubbish System – Foxtel iq5 is without doubt the worst service I have encountered in 40 yrs.I have to switch the box off and back on every single day..I would love to go back to iq3...Simple but very reliable it was..Very close to getting rid of it. Show details
Dropping out all the time – Dropping out all the time. I’m having to turn off n reboot sometimes 5-6 times a day but not every day, I have complained to nbn, Telstra n Foxtel n it seems that no one can fix it. Show details
Iq5 activation issue – Three stars only at this stage due to customer service provided resolving what is now a ' back end ' problem. Otherwise box was easy to set up to internet. HDMI cable to TV and power. Two steps. Zero so far for picture quality and reliability because of set up problem and will not know till box is working. Show details
IQ 5 is hopeless, previous model was much better and trouble free! – Have two boxes in two separate rooms and both keep crashing and need re-booting almost on a daily basis. Another nonsense.. only being able to record one program at a time in this day and age, seriously? Show details
Foxtel problems – After having 2 IQ5 boxes installed by Foxtel techs (and tested) 2 weeks apart, have been having regular crashes on first box only being told by Foxtel first installation incorrect. At times, we lose channel for 1 to 3 seconds, 5 seconds apart. Also, message received at times saying network error. When it works without crashing, it is good, but Foxtel support is poor and repetitive calls are looked at individually without considering call history. Show details
Unstable – I installed 2 boxes. Internet based. Also installed 2 orbis. Internet great in my house therefore. But the the IQ boxes kept crashing. Rebooted. Then upgraded software. Didn’t help. Foxtel refused to replace boxes. So now cancelled Foxtel. Have bought pvr box. Records etc. Lots of free to air. And lots of streaming apps. Saved lots of $$. Show details
Not off to a good start – We have the internet based connection. It keeps crashing. You have to reset it all the time.
