Freebird FlexSeries Head Shaver

Updated… The Freebird refuses to start and unless you buy repeated refill blade heads, the warranty will not cover it. Rating reduced by 1 as it cannot be used and is less than a year old. Freebird ace customer service, marketing and ease of use; if as much time went into acing their dry shaving as the wet shaving ultimately their Flex Series Head Shaver would fully justify the hype. To handle and hold, it's light and easy on the wrists and ultimately your scalp; in this respect, making it the best of the bunch I've tried by a country mile. However, in dry shaving mode, performance is limited, but make things slippy (with a wet shave) for best results; the difference is night and day. The battery, however, is really weakened from the extra passes you have to take when dry shaving. Shave after half a days growth from bald to get respectable results, but you will have to shave twice daily on dry. Better options exist; for example, Amazon's 6 in 1 Fezihegh 4D shaver, which is also cheaper. This is a results based business, but if you really fancy a Freebird option, check out their Flex Series Pro. If however, you don't want to fork out $105 (includes a 30 day trial) and have a $50-$70 budget, the Fezihegh is an absolute steal. It doesn't handle as well, but the cost is much more appealing.
Extended review
With over 3 million shipped orders, the Freebird claims to be the number 1 most reviewed head shaver. It includes: +Concave flexible blades +Scalpsafe technology +IPX5 water resistant design +A lifetime warranty (dependant on you purchasing a new blade head periodically)
PERFORMANCE & HANDLING +With its user friendly design, the Freebird offers a straightforward shaving experience. +It holds true to its claim of no nicks or cuts - a lot safer (but far less effective) than razor shaving. +The middle blade is a dummy, as it improves contact with the scalp. -Due to the blades lack of ability to deep shave when dry shaving, you will need to shave twice daily. -With any shaver from experience, anything over 1.5 days growth makes more work for you and your blades. But to be totally fair to the products, I only shave with 0.5 to 1 days growth. --The shaver performs well with a wet shave and decreases the amount of time spent shaving. BLADE REPLACEMENTS +Replace blades before the 50 shaves mark or around 6-8 weeks (this will vary depending on how often and volume of shave.) -You have to replace the whole shaver head for around $29 (or $24 with a subscription) compared to $21 for an Amazon 6 in 1 Shaver. Some shavers such as the Pitbull Pro offer replacement blades. +Although ultimately, it is more convenient this way than fitting your own blades. You are offered optional periodic sending of new blades, which while adding to the cost, is realistic and honest to you and the products needs.
ADVICE / CUSTOMER SERVICE +It also offers handy advice on the excellent website, with a four step shaving process. Step 3, for example: Use The Correct Shaving Technique +https://www.myfreebird.com/blogs/grooming/how-to-shave-your-head Use small, circular motions with medium pressure to let the shaver do the work. It also looks great, bellowing it's tiny proportions with a tough exterior. +Customer Service was thorough, speedy and excellent overall.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE Open out blades by clicking from the centre to the sides and washing under cold water. Alternatively, a cotton bud or wet wipes also come in handy. I found a bit of Eucalyptus spray improves performance, but be sure to research before taking that as gospel. +To save blade wear, using for head shaving exclusively is going to maintain blade life. +Ideally, clean after each use for blade and machine longevity.
EASE OF USE +One power button with a green light for battery charging and a red light for when machine needs charging. -No display for battery life.
VALUE / VERDICT +With the accessories and generally strong communication via customer service, we feel overall the value is okay. -However, the replacement blades if not offered at a discount price are expensive, even though wet shaving performance is more to the standard we would expect. -The problem Freebird faces is for all the glitz and glamour, you can get better performing, better featured and cheaper priced, cheaper to maintain shavers. If they should take note of anything, just like overpriced Skull Shavers that are now defunct, it's only a matter of time before Joe Public catch on.
