Garmin going backwards – Slower satellite acquisition than my older Garmin nuvi 2589.Navigation mode for shortest distance did not exist, instead it had straight line travel (am I expected to travel over the top of buildings and landscape). The power cord could be placed a little higher so that you could at least sit it on dash or flat area (like my old one). Wasted my money as I do not enjoy using it.
Purchased in at JB Hi-Fi for $499.
Inaccurate, Misleading and Dangerous outside of Metro areas – While I love the design and the features of the DriveSmart 76, and it's great in the metro areas, we recently relied on it on a long road trip across Australia towing our caravan - over 11,000km total travel. All we expected from the device was (1) accurate directions to destinations, (2) distances to the next fuel station on our route, and (3) information on the next Rest Areas where we could safely change drivers when tired. However, on several occasions, the directions to destination caravan parks were way out - taking us 20+km past the park or down dead-end roads or down a narrow gravel road when we had set Unpaved Roads to be avoided. It was very difficult and extremely dangerous making a U-Turn with a caravan! It also tried to take us 40km off our route to what was, allegedly, the nearest fuel station that was "Up Ahead" when there was actually a major fuel stop only 15 km along our route. It also described basic bitumen Rest Areas as "Lodgings" while many of the alleged Rest Areas it displayed did not exist. We encountered over 100 errors during our trip. Garmin told us that the problems were due to bad HERE Mapping data, however, putting the same routes into the www.wego.HERE.com website gave perfect directions every time. Google Maps also gives accurate directions. Rather than investigating the issues, Garmin have decided to refund my money.
