Dumb piece of plastic – Hi, I am using Garmin Nuvi 3590 since last year. Due to my job profile i have to travel around 150 kms and diff locations And a few exactly same locations everyday. It always try to play with me while travelling. It never choose an appropriate route by the means of time and traffic. even after setting the route planning to the fastest it tells me… Read more
to take exit from freeway 3-4 exits before the destinations wheres that freeway actually leads to the destination. it is always wasting my time and money beco Time = Money in my job. I purchased it costly crap i was thinking that it will help me a lot due to the new technology. but it is only a dumb piece of plastic with screen not a smart navigator. It doesn't help me planning proper routs. I am feeling that it is not the best available navigator for Australia. It can't recognise many addresses. its always updated with the new updates.
Plz suggest what should i do crap its not helping me in anyways. and always makes me frustrated while travelling. That type of frustration could be dangerous on the road while driving..!!!!!!!!!
All the suggestions welcome.
Thanks
John
fast and reliable – I bought the garmin nuvi series 3590 about 6 months ago and device was fast and reliable. The maps are accurate and I haven't had any issues, performs as expected. the price was high but I needed a good device with lifetime maps also. Very pleased and happy so far
Garmin Nuvi 3597 lmt – I purchased a nuvi 3597lmt and had to return it after 2 weeks because it kept freezing ,and also didn't recognize the Hume hwy .The GPS wanted me to exit through euroa to go from MELB to Wodongs. After receiving another nuvi 3597lmt ,again the brand new GPS also kept freezing.I returned it and got my money back, however what made it more frustrating… Read more
the seller and manufacturer said the units are the best on the markel and that I was unlucky withy two.Another hitch was that it didn't locate Bacchus Marsh railway station,a very old and busy station but found rochbank which uses a footy shelter as its station. Great screen and info when working Kept freezing
not as good as out Iphone – We purchased a high end TOM TOM which was very poor as it didn't know the exits off a 7year old freeway exit in Wollongong. The nuvi is much better but even with regular updates , it cant find some older addresses, by place name or by address .. so we use either our iPhone 4s or the 5 which pics them up immediately. Not worth the $440 I paid, I… Read more
would set up my phone to use for GPS. ( Nuvi 3590 misses redlight cameras and places like Sydney International Equestrian centre, on Saxony Rd, Horsley Park. It couldn't even find Saxony Rd itself ). big screen. easier release from mounting regular resets, glitchy at times. cant use voice activation with the smallest background noise
Stick to easy to use garmin – We recently purchased a Tom Tom Go 600 as no instructions came with this product we are unable to work out how to use it plus had Bluetooth but was unable to connect to a Mobile Phone, so we handed it back immediately to the place of purchase Domayne and swapped it for a Garmin nuvi 3590 LMT. The Garmin came with instructions and was installed and… Read more · 1
used in a few seconds in our car, and in typical Garmin fashion it asked you where do you want to go and it takes you there, it also picked up our 2 Apple Iphones complete with all phone number stored in the phone directory. Just like Tom Tom the screen has changed similar to a computer screen and the brightness of the screen was just good enough in sun light. The Tom Tom you could not see very well in sun light. We have found the Garmin 3590 very accurate in locating destinations and it is extremely easy to use even for a computer novice Easy to install and use comes with good instructions It would deserve a perfect 5 score if the mounting bracket would not have fallen off the windscreen 3 times so far on a very hot day
Better than most – maps still have quite a few errors but not as many as others. screen is great. very easy to use. voice command is useless. bluetooth is next to useless because the speaker built into the mount is still too small and tinny. cannot hear phone conversations over road noise. (why did they stop building in a FM Transmitter so the sound would come out… Read more
of the car stereo?) I got it on special for $288. If I had paid the full price I would be reeturning it for a more basic model. ease of use, clear hi res screen, inbuilt speaker, voice command.
Ideal Trafic Companion – When my Company announced they would move office to a very unfamiliar and traffic dense part of Sydney, I decided to invest in a upmarket GPS unit that proclaimed you could talk to it, keep you updated with traffic on the go and would even suggest alternative routes in case of traffic incidents that would block my inlaid route. The cost of this… Read more · 1
Garmin Nuvi 3590LMT was not insignificant at $449 retail in view of there being a plethora of less featured though very decent units at half or less that price. I kept my eyes peeled for months for a good price until I received a subscribed email from DSE-online that they had it on special for $299 so I grabbed it eagerly. The on-line transaction with DSE and the free delivery was seamless, excellent service from DSE. The unit came with a good quality window bracket, a special traffic receiver charging cable that included the required traffic update subscription and with lifetime map updates to boot. The unit itself feels very robust and has a very clear hi-res 5” touch screen. It has Bluetooth and USB connectivity. While packed with features and apps to go through it was a relative simple straight forward and quick process to set it up for my needs. The touch screen was very clear and responsive, a pleasure to work with. Finding things back afterward on the fly, not so easy but hey, that is the price you pay for heaps of features. After having used it for just over two months now, I am extremely happy with its performance. Clear hi-res detailed graphics switches to split screens, showing main route in one and a separate view with exit or entry route if a change of direction is upcoming, very accurate and lifelike to the real thing. There is a clear audio voice with timely and repeated instructions that accompany these views though at times the pronunciation of certain names is a bit odd, typical for a synthesized voice. It also learns. If you frequently deviate from a route because you may want to go that way instead, it will eventually include this route in your options and at times choose it for you if similar in time to get there. What I also liked was the suggestions for alternative routes because it deems you can gain several minutes due to traffic congestions. Touch the optional route alert on the screen and the two routes are displayed, itemized and showing both ETA’s. Up to you then if you choose to stay or change. If you do nothing the alert disappears and you just continue as you were. Then, the main reason I bought this unit, the route re-direction alert, which automatically activated with the message that there was an incident up ahead and we should deviate from this route, plus, it showed it on the map where the incident was. I was advised that a new route had been programmed for me which was now highlighted on the map. Nothing further was required from me other than to follow the new directions which brought me home around the incident. Later that evening I heard on the news that there was a truck turned on its side and that road was closed for hours. What a good feature this is! Since I drive in Sydney, this feature is activated frequently and I love it. Apart from that, I don’t really have to touch it because it is voice command activated. You simply program a name for the unit, “Voice Command” is default but you can change it to anything you like. You simply activate the voice command by saying that name and proceed to input your instructions verbally. It also has Bluetooth so you can connect your phone through it effectively making it a hands free phone, voice activated. It has a micro SD card slot and you can upload photos or anything really, it serves as a portable data storage device.
Yep I am pretty impressed with this unit. The only negative I can tell you is that infrequently it decides to reset. It goes blank and does a soft reboot, takes a minute or so and although it doesn’t lose your map or where you are, it does lose all your other trip data, like Kms driven thus far and fuel usage calculation for that trip (also a good feature). Not critical but annoying if you are in unfamiliar territory and you need your map at that very moment. I have not contacted Garmin on that yet and it could simply be that it needs a software tweak or maybe it is a heat related safety since it happened in very hot weather and it is mounted on the windscreen after all.
All in all, top product from Garmin. Ver good quality built, voice activated, very clear responsive touch screen, live trafic updates, does all it advertizes very well Very little, small stuff, infrequently likes to do a soft reset and pricey unless you find a discounted price
Top of the range Garmin GPS – When you buy a top of the range GPS I expect that it will be just that at last for the functions that it promises. I love the Portrait or Landscape mode and never to by update maps and the ability to seach on just about anything. On the negative side it offers 100 routes but you can create 1 route and reorder it but not save it or edit it let… Read more
alone the create the other 99 routes as in the sales specs, come on Garmin how about and upgrade. It is very hard if not impossible to get a Long / Lat of a point on the map or if you save a point you can't get the long/lat data. Also you can't sort or arrange the custom POI Menu alphabetically. I was always changing the magnification on my other Garmins however, you need to touch the screen to bring up the scale change, it then usually thinks you want to look at something else ie you move the screen and it goes out of Nav mode and when you press the back arrow you are back to were you started. It has a feature to add button to the screen however the scale change is not a choice. If you select manual scale change mode then it loses the abiity to auto change at intersections. I like the old software for this feature, again an ugrade would be good.
Garmin uses Basecamp for your programming as Mapsourse will not recognise this GPS but Mapsourse is much better for creating routes than Basecamp
For a top of the range it is missing MP3 player and a FM transmitter to the in car radio. The windscreen mount is poor and there is no way to be able to use the gps charging from a usb computer port. unit is on just in power save mode "ready to use"
