Garmin Rino 750

Think twice before you purchase Garmin products. The service is miserable – I enquired about a GPS Rino 750 that was out for a South Polar Expedition; unfortunately, the front screen was scratched. I called Garmin Australia and waited 45 minutes on the phone without getting an answer from the product support service. I then phoned a distributor J. Appleseed in Sydney and was told that Garmin does not repair any items but replaces them for a reasonable price. I phoned Garmin Australia again with the same dilemma and waited a long time without success. Garmin wants to be a market leader. Yes, they are in unreasonable phone waiting times and outdated products that cannot be repaired but only be replaced regardless if the item has just some cosmetic defects. To exchange an item against a new one you have to purchase for nearly the new price is not the way good business is done nowadays as to a waste of materials and the pollution to manufacture new products. Garmin wants to be at the forefront and cater for environmental products but forgets that one of the most important facts is customer service and caring about resources. People should think twice before purchasing Garmin products, I have a late Fenix watch and several other GPS products but must admit that most of this items I would not purchase these again as they are not correctly supported and if only in the interest of selling, on the other hand, these products compared to other manufacturers are often outdated.

Could be good – I too have the problem with channel 40 and unless something has changed the other problem with these units are once the battery goes flat or sits for a long time they cannot recharge. I had the same problem with my previous 650 but ended buying the AA cradle as the batteries were a hundred bucks each and after replacing two of them I got fed up. Hoped the 750 might have fixed it but unfortunately no. Shame because apart from that, they’re awesome units
Purchased for $800.
Acknowledged fault and lack of support - Covid still to blame! – Great concept but practically a useless device. Garmin emailed me on 17 Oct 2022 advising "Please note that there is a known issue with the radio channel 40 on Rino 750 that is unable to be fixed", but they continue to sell the product. Channel 40 is the road safety channel in Australia and the most important one to have! The GPS freezes regularly, and battery life is less than 4 hours, although this appears linked to the channel 40 issue. I've been communicating with Garmin for over a year explaining the problems experienced and sending videos and other requested supporting information, but Garmin respond slowly, and there is no continuity of response. I have numerous emails advising me to call their helpline number 1800 235 822 and have spent countless hours waiting for my call to be answered. Easy test if you are considering one of these units - call their helpline and check the response time. It leaves you on hold indefinitely. In our club we have 8 of these units - all intermittently problematic. 2 of them have channel 40 working, the other six including mine, not. I have had the Rino 750 for 2 years now and have never been able to rely on it. It makes great claims, but does not deliver, and more disappointingly, Garmin do not have a functional support team in Australia, particularly in WA.
Purchased in at Anaconda Physical store for $689.

I still cannot get support from Garmin despite having jumped thru their hoops. I spent $689 on this unit and $299 on the map sim card and have never had the unit function properly for a full day. Anaconda say their complaints too are being unanswered and recommend I persevere with Garmin directly. Below is Garmins' email advising there is a known problem with channel 40 on these units and I should call their support line. No-one ever answers this!
Thank you for contacting Garmin Australasia.
