Water pressure is so much better! – Our old water pump broke so we had to buy a new one. We weren’t sure which one to get, but we looked up this one and saw it had pretty good reviews. We went ahead and bought it. It was easy to install and the water pressure inside the house is so much better. Definitely recommend Show details
We are on a 2.5 acre outer city block in WA, with 130,000lt above ground water tank. We had a typical pressure pump that worked fine, bit noisy, inefficient and was limited to only one water operation at time as the pressure drop was very noticeable, which made showers a coordinated event. We looked into updating to a smart variable style pump,… Read more
similar to our recently updated pool pump. Found the Grundfos SCALA2 on line and it seemed impressive, and I was familiar with the brand from my construction experience. It was a easy install, modifying the previous pump pvc piping. The recommended flexible hoses where unobtainable from the general hardware so I just made sure the supported pvc outlet and inlet were not binding in anyway. I have noticed 25mm flex pipes are now available from Grundfus.
Its been over a month now and it's been great. The pressure is great, pump is quiet and variable control works as it should. We were hoping to be able to have both showers with full pressure operating at the same time, but the hot water temp reduces, a bit too much to ignore. Initially we were disappointed, but realised its not the pump its our hot water pipework, being too small, 15mm diameter copper running over 30m between showers at opposite ends of the house.
We are happy with pump and I would recommend this pump!
Initially a great pump but after 2.5 years the seals have allowed water into the motor and it has stopped working. Googled the problem and it appears quite common and a known fault. Just out of warranty and contacted the supplier but nothing can be done. Would not recommend buying this pump. Previously had a Grundfos Jet Pump that went for 15 years and will go back to the simpler technology. Show details

This is by far the most efficient and quiet pump we have used. Extremely easy to use and setup was quick and zero hassle.
We need a quiet pump as it is positioned outside our kitchen windows. The Grundfos SCALA 2 was recommended by our local Pump House store as having a suitable flow rate and very quiet. Show details
The initial service and advice I received from the supplier on the product to use was first class. I found the Pump incredibly quick, simple and easy to install. The running instructions easy to follow. And the Pump operated just as it was demonstrated/represented- Quiet, Smooth, and a Constant even flow/pressure. And the ability to simply increase… Read more
or lower the supply pressure a great advantage for times when my tank supply was getting low through summer. Plus- the new increased shower pressure was an extra bonus.
Good choice for a quiete but quality pump – Whisper quiet and very economical. Bought this pump due to my abysmal water pressure from the city. It now delivers good pressure and can't hear it in the middle of the night Show details
Spare parts not available – I purchased a Scala 2 six years ago and (unlike many others) it has worked well ...until recently. It began pulsing, so I checked the pressure tank, inlets, outlets etc. All OK. Spoke to the Grundfos service person who was helpful, said it may be the pressure sensor so I took the front housing off and the pressure sensor was leaking/faulty. No… Read more
problem I thought. I'll get a replacement part. I contacted the local dealer who said he couldn't help, so contacted the place of purchase who followed up with Grundfos who said the Scala 2 had design changes so they don't make the part for the older model anymore. I'll need to buy a new pump. I can buy spare parts for a six year old car, washing machine, dishwasher but not my Scala 2 pump. Without the pressure sensor the pump is useless yet I notice there are still many places still selling the Scala 2 pump, not sure which model. Buyers should be made aware that their pump may not be repairable within the working life of the pump because the parts are not available.
UPDATE: I was offerered mediation with Grundfos before publishing this review. They got in touch and offered me a free replacement pump while they tried to locate the spare part. Pretty good service I thought. I'm still keen to locate the spare part so I can repair the previous pump.

We have installed a Grundfos SCALA2 to supply water to our house and garden from our new 130KL Rainwater tank. We have an automatic mains to tank changeover valve for power outages/empty tank. Really impressed with the SCALA2 pump. Its very quiet and doesn't "cycle" with small tap openings like other pumps. I only have the SCALA2 set on level 2… Read more
out of the possible 5. It easily runs the house including 2 showers at once. It has great pressure thru my 60m 19mm garden hose. I appreciate the power savings that will be achieved with the variable pump speeds, I would recommend the SCALA2 to anybody that needs to provide good pressure/water delivery to both the house and garden.
This is the second scala 2 pump I have purchased. The first scala 2 pump is still working perfectly, so I purchased the second scala 2 pump for another project. The pump runs very quiet with it's variable speed, great pressure, simple installation, compact size and very economical to run. Show details
The pump is very quiet and boosts the pressure nicely. It has made a big difference to our house. No delays in pressure delivery - seamless integration. Plug and play and connect it into your system and it just works. There have been some obvious design changes since the earlier versions of this pump so hopefully endurance will be what you would expect of this sort of pump. Show details

SCALA 2 NOT reliable and Durable as advertised – Supposed to last 15-20 years, failed within 5 years. Have contacted Grundfos customer service but so far no reply. NOT reliable and durable as advertised!

Fault in pump recurs – Grundfos Scala2 installed new in Feb 21. Started leaking. Replaced under warranty Feb 2023. Leaked again. Replaced under warranty Jan 2025. I am charged for the replacement by the installer. Why has the manufacturer diagnosed and rectified this recurring problem? Show details
Scala2 failure – We have been through 4 of these scala 2 pumps since 2017. Two pump develops a leak from the pump into the electric motor as the seal design is very poor. The first pump electronics failed & the second two had the leak into the electric motor. We just picked up the fourth pump today. Grundfos nz has replaced the pump twice and I will be expecting… Read more
they replace it this time. My advice is don’t buy a scala 2. Grundfos should replace all scala 2 worldwide with a completely redesigned pump. Its not acceptable. I would never buy another grundfos product. We have used grundfos pumps on our farms since 1981. I can’t understand why they would make such an unreliable pump.

This is a solid, well-built pump and was extremely easy to install, with no tools or complicated setup required. We use it as a single pump for two 30 m3 rainwater tanks, and it comfortably supplies water to two bathrooms, the kitchen and the laundry. In our setup it pushes water through two sediment filters without any trouble, and the cold water… Read more
pressure remains very good throughout the system. So far it has been reliable, quiet, and performs exactly as needed. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a straightforward and effective rainwater supply pump.
I live in a rural area totally dependent on tank water (underground tank, so no gravity assistance). The Scala2 was to replace an old Davey pump, and I purchased it based on reviews and on the recommendation of the retailer. The Scala 2 was simple to install and performs very well indeed. The plumber who installed it was impressed. Very quiet… Read more
operation, very good pressure, even with more than one tap on. I would recommend this pump to others in a similar situation.
Scala-d up – A very quiet motor that we can barely hear, being that it's directly under the bedroom floor. We can adjust pressure bars if we need to but have it set to default. Scala1 didn't have this option which is why we bought this model. Show details
Old tank full of gunk9 – Have recently had Scala2 installed so far so good will need to get filter between tank and pump so it runs clean. Replaced pump 10 years old which was full of gunk and did not give enough pressure to house and was noisy Show details
Great when new, but many fail after 3 years, and no support from Grundfos – I installed a Scala2 in 2019 to replace a previous direct house and garden supply pump that had been running for >25yrs. It initially seemed fantastic - quiet, easy to install, smart, good variable pressure when new. Then after about 3 years things started going wrong, until now at about 4 - 5 years it has seized and I have to say now it is a… Read more
lemon and would not buy another Grundfos pump as a result of their lack of help. It was great when it was running, but support and service from Grundfos and the retailer have been completely lacking when outside the Warranty period of 2 years. Firstly it began running for long periods when there were no taps on, then it began weeping water out the bottom, until it seized (the leak warning light was accurate). According to the agent it is unrepairable. You will notice similar reviews - great when new get 5 stars, then large numbers of 1 stars by 3 to 5 years.

Going strong two years – So quiet compared to neighbours pump, really does provide constant pressure for whole of house, actually more constant pressure than our mains pressure. Can easily do two showers and another tap all at once. Highly recommended, never had an issue with it for two years. Update Jan 2026 still zero issues
Great Quality & Affordable Price – I installed this Scala2 3-45 as a direct replacement of an existing 7 year old pump. Being variable speed it is perfect for running the irrigation system it is connected to. Just set the pressure you want the pump to maintain & it will alter its speed to suit the flow required. Affordable variable speed pump & Grundfos quality can't be beaten! Show details

Stay away!! – The Grundfos Scala 2 has been having issues since 2017 and Grundfos says they have solved the issues. (They actually had an recall on them back than also). But really haven't fix the issues and it will start leaking 3 to 5 years. (At the bottom) Stay away from this product, there are more reliable and affordable products that are way superior to the Scala. Show details
Leak cannot be fixed – Pump worked great for 4 years. Started leaking from weep holes on bottom. Replaced shaft seals for over $100. Still leaks. ( I’m an aircraft tech. I’ve repaired hundreds of pumps) Contacted Grundfos. Received no help. No return calls or emails. Very expensive disposable pump. Will never buy a Grundfos product again. Show details
Variable speed = lower startup current – I've just installed my new Scala2, so time will tell. But for now this pump has solved a "surge current", "inrush current", or "locked rotor current" issue that we've been frustrated with for years. We live on a farm. The grid power goes off here 2 or 3 times a year. No power = no water. Standard household pressure pumps draw a… Read more
higher-than-rated current as they kick in. It can be up to 11x the rated current of the pump. It's only for a few microseconds, but it's enough to trip inverters connected to many generators and Lithium backup batteries.
Last year I bought a battery costing ~$900 that was rated to 1.4kW surge. I wasn't expecting it to work, and indeed it was tripped by our standard pump. So recently I bought one for $3.6K rated to 6kW surge. It worked. Great. Now we can have showers when the power is off.
Then, our pump died. So I bought a Scala2. It works fine with the $900 battery. The variable speed means that startup current is below 1400W. If only I'd known this earlier! Oh, well, we now have a battery capable of running our freezer for two days.
The lower startup current of variable speed pumps should be marketed as a significant advantage.
Fantastic Pump – I have purchased a replacement pump as my old Scalla2 has failed after 12 years of service This has been a fantastic pump and wanted tog get another one because it was so good Show details
A pump for all situations – We've had a Scala 2 on our house for 7 years and it's still going strong. We had a need for a new pump on our recently built stables so we purchased a second Scala 2 from Aquifer Pumps in Brisbane. Installed with ease and the variable pump facility works to cater for all our stable needs with 4 horses. Show details

3 dead pumps and I'm out – The Scala2 is a great pump when it's working, good and consistent pressure. Unfortunately I've had three of these pumps which have failed way too early. Two had the plastic casing where the outlet pipe had developed leaks which look like a fine spray coming straight through the plastic. Not repairable according to the pump guy. motor seized because the main seal had failed. Again not repairable. Each pump lasted just over two years which is pretty poor given the price. No more Grundfos pumps for me, which is a shame because in years gone by they were pretty good pumps.
Design Fault causing cracked Housing – Unfortunately this pump has a design fault resulting in a cracked housing (read the multiple 1 star reviews...) called the shop and was told that I need to send pictures, serial number and purchase documentation that would then be send to Grundfoss. A phone call confirmed that the details provided was all that would be needed and that my info was already send to Danfoss. I called the shop again and was told that they are waiting for Danfoss to reply. Now this pump is advertised as a Household Water Pump, so yes we need it... Is Danfoss expecting us to buy another pump so their warranty department has time to deal with the many claims for this pump, and yes they are still selling them. They are obviously very aware that there is a design fault with this pump as they tried to fix the issue by adding two brackets that are designed by a bean counter and are totally useless. Danfoss USED to be a premier brand... unfortunately no longer, a shame really
