Disappointed, at best – The system is unresponsive, and requires a reboot to unfreeze the system which means pulling the mains lead out. useless – PVR button on remote won't work at times, yet all the other buttons functions do, when it was working just ∞ minutes before hand, then suddenly not working. F### junk. Unit freezes up. Reboot everything yet to no avail. Never ever buy Grundig!!!!!

Useless – PVR has never recorded a show to the end, it either never records, only records 2mins of the show or more frustrating it will miss the last 10 mins of a show. Tried to return to Harvey Norman (place of purchase) however they would not accept it back and just keep stating that it needed a software upgrade. This has been done a number of times and still will not record shows like it states it does. Will never buy Grundig again..

Grundig GMVR500FV Freeview EPG – Terrible. Not fit for use. Co axial connections loose. The only way we can get a signal is to fractionally move the co axial connection a hope for the best. Freeview is a waste of time. Frequently unit freezes up requiring turning the power off to reset it sometimes more than once. Junk at it's best – I have had both the bush and grundig HDD and they are simply not up to scratch. They cannot be relied on to operate as required. The Grundig I returned only to be replaced with a refurbished unit (Somebody else's unit refurbished) and a three month warranty as my unit could not be repaired. Useless junk – Problems with failure to work at all, returned from repair as not defective! Same issue, returned and replaced with a filthy remote and note to say warranty to expire as per original. Grundig freeview PVR – Without a doubt this is the worst piece of technology we have ever bought. Have had problems right from the word go. Just does not work and freezes continually. Would not recommend anybody spend good money on this rubbish product. No point in going back to retailer, as simply not interested. just does not work

What a wreck – I have had this pvr since software version 32. After upgrading to 41 the main issue was loosing recordings after selecting from the EPG. After version 51 upgrade, the EPG now fails to display. I will erase the HDD and if the unit continues to not show the EPG, I will smash the thing, something I have wanted to do for some time. Installed the firmware upgrade and it only fixed the EPG problems. Back to DS and they were less than sympathetic and they tried to sell me another brand. It looks like Grundig have wiped their hands of this model with no further software upgrades available since 2012.

This without doubt is the worst piece of electronic equipment I have ever purchased. Grundig stinks.

Lack of support by retailer and Grundig. Does not perform as advertised.

Poor quality equipment – I purchased a GDVR501FV from Dick Smith on 18 July 2011 -cost $299. I thought I was paying a premium price for premium equipment. It gave trouble from the start. When I complained I was given a firmware upgrade. I upgraded again to VO 45 in October 2012. The unit has frozen again this evening. Totally unreliable.

upgrade they recommended made things worse and I just don't get how they tell me no one else has had these problems so I need to send the unit in for investigation and repair. How do you fix something that's so badly broken?? Beware anyone who's thinking of buying a recorder- stay far away from the Grundig/Bush brand.

back for repair but that did not work, I have tried talking to the sales people where I bought it(Dick Smith) and was told they could not do anything about replacing it as it was up to Grundig. They said they were not respondible for the warranty. Go figure. Grundig however do not see to be interested. Do not buy this product as you will waste your money.

Doesn't work. No tech support – Brand new out of the box and the remote does not talk to the unit. Booted and found all the stations but none of the remote buttons do as advertsed (random response). Sat on the support line for an hour listening to a music box without answer. The web site provided another number but had the same result. I wish I'd read the reviews before purchase. Never got to the stage of using the functions. Does not work. Support line does not answer.

Rubbish - Unbelievable – It freezes, the remote changes channel when its turning volume down, Its slow. the functions dont work. down. I can not call menu up, without first calling Library up, It freezes only way to unfreeze is disconnect power supply.. too bad if in middle of recording another station!. I can't use P+ or P- to switch prog, I have to key in the numbers.. that can send it into any other function other than bring up the prog corresponding to the number keyed in..... It skips and jumps while watching tv, The unit itself when I turn my tv off, also turns off... So I have to Boot every time I turn tv on!! takes 1 - 3 mins each time. I have a smart Voice and Activation Samsung tv top of the tv's range. I can not use it, everytime I say Hi tv power on, up comes the message cable disconnected..... So I have to boot the Grundig into action!! and yes wait 1-3 mins every time! What is the point in having the top of the range tv, if I can't use it as it is intended to be used???????

BUT IN ALL FARENESS Harvey Norman have worked damned hard to rectify the situation but to no avail... ( mind you it cost me almost $500 to have the whole thing installed) They even tried a SAMSUNG PVR thinking it would work with a SAMSUNG TV, had same issue with not being able to use voice control on tv....... I AM COSIDERING asking for a total refund on Samsung TV, Grundig PVR, and Samsung Blu Ray DVD player, and because I won't have those items I just listed, they can have my Boston Sound Bar back too......... I am over it! Almost 6 months p' farting around........ Time for some serious action! If no satisfaction I will be taking to court!

It works, and works very well – I also own a TiVo. But this is no TiVo. But for what it is which is a basic PVR it does very well indeed. The new freeview EPG is 100 times better than any manufacturers EPG. It loads quickly and works very well. due to the information sent by the broadcasters as opposed to the product itself. The only real downside I've found with this product is you can delete any channels from the channel list. This is annoying because every channel shows up in the guide including duplicates and radio channels. I hope Grundig releases software update that allows you to select the channels that you want in the guide. I still love my TiVo, but at about one third the price this grundig PVR does very well indeed. Just works, no Internet connection required. At $249 for the 500 gig version it's a bargain. The free view EPG really does work well and is 100 times better than any other free EPG on the market excluding TiVo. No way to delete channels you don't want to show up in the guide. Would like to see a folder function in the library rather than just a massive list of shows

the end, of the program. I thought I'd be smart and record the program after the program I really wanted to record - that didn't even work. Nearly every film I have recorded - the last 'section' is not recorded. Am sick of wondering how films (or shows) end!! I would suggest you do not record any type of series. As an example - if an hour long program starts at 9.30pm, logic would say it will finish at 10.30pm. But what if the show starts late? The Grundig appears to stop recording at 10.30 - regardless of what time it started. I would prefer to have the option to record by time, not program. The number of times I have missed the endings of shows is absolutely ridiculous!

2. Some times I set up a recording session - but when I go to Library to re-play, the description says 'no description', recording is black, and nothing recorded. Makes no difference what station - unit decides itself what it will record or not.

3. Often, after recording a show, the unit 'freezes'. The only way to correct this is to unplug at wall power point. Just great if plug is behind wall units.

4. Many times the unit freezes just on one station - you cannot change any thing. Again, you have to unplug at wall.

5. You need to wait around 90-120 seconds between pressing any buttons. You cannot turn on and press record without a wait - often much longer than 2 minutes. If you press record for 2 programs too quickly, 1 or both will not record. Will be blank.

When the unit does record something, the quality is good - I just wish it would record what I want it to. I paid alot of money for this unit, but I still go back to using my reliable old VCR and second HD (which can record by time). Might record well, but if you want to see the start and finish watching a program - don't buy this unit. Good quality picture when it does record Way too expensive for limited range of services when they do work
