Faulty Product – The product is designed to fail - specifically the print head as mentioned in previous products. I will no buy a HP product again - after contacting HP support they advised my to buy another print head. If you look it up there is actually a class action lawsuit in the USA related to this exact fault.  Show details

Great if want to replace your printer every year – Was great for the 1st 12 months. Replaced the cartridges yesterday with new HP brand ones and nothing. Says I need to replace the print head. When the cartridges cost $189 and now the print head doesn't work you can imagine how unimpressed I am. Money I can't afford to lose but there it goes straight down the drain.  Show details

Junk, don't waste your money – Don't waste your money with this printer. You will have to replace the printhead within the first two years, total junk! Extremely poor customer service! We are definitely not buy another HP product again after this experience. Sorry too late that they had a class action lawsuit filed against them for the exact problems I have.  Show details

Don't buy this printer – Terrible printer - we have had nothing but issues. Ink is expense - it doesn't seem to like non-brand ink. Doesn't print very well. Slow, etc. Not good. Make sure if this is on sale steer clear. I always had to run the clean print heads as well to make sure it was ok to print some things. Ink blotted as well.  Show details

Ink Hog! – After exhaustive research I found that even when I set the printer on, normal, black text, plain paper, that there was no way to set this as default. It would always revert back to the, high quality print, photo paper, full color. I mostly would print text documents and would always manually adjust the settings. The real kicker is after manually… Read more

setting it for only black text each time, it used up all the color ink anyway and the black was 90% full still. It won't let me print anything unless I replace the depleted color cartridges even though all I want is plain old black text print. The cost of the ink is a bit pricey too. Typically ranging from individual cartridges at $35+ or the full set at $90+. Last time I paid $110 with a discount at a retail office supply chain for the full set. I got about 100 black text copies from that set. Even if I was printing just photos out I would have not have gotten much better mileage from the ink cartridges.

Yet another HP printer with problems – This printer has been the most frustrating printer I have ever used and will be the last HP product I purchase. The instability of the driver connectivity has meant frustrating hours of troubleshooting, un-installing and re-installing software just to have the same problem arise a few weeks later. And now the Print function when used crashes… Read more

Outlook. This weekend I will purchase a new printer and have great delight in venting my intense dissatisfaction with this lemon of a printer as I smash it to pieces before dumping it in the bin.

Pathetic marketing strategy – Great printer if you plan to use it only for 12 months. With the HP 8600 printerheads are consumable. They last the duration of the warranty ie 12 months. Then you have to replace them. You can't find them in Australia. You have to get them from eBay US for AUD 160. Which is pretty much the price of a brand new printer. I can't believe I… Read more

bought this piece of crap. I will never ever by HP products again. And I'll make sure consumers are aware of the pathetic marketing strategy HP put in place on their printers.

Color was not good – Well I bought this printer to replace my wife's old HP 2110 printer/scanner that had been working without fault for years. Easy to set up on the network or usb with Windows 7, I did both. It starts the first print quickly and the double side option worked. The big problem with this printer in comparison to the old one was the print quality on… Read more

plain paper! The printer is mainly used to print fliers. The black was sharp but the driver wouldn't allow the printer to print decent quality on plain paper. It would only allow this on the specialty papers. When we tried to print with the settings set for plain paper the color in comparison was pale and washed out even in the print preview compared to the 11 year old unit it was to replace. I did try the plain paper on a higher setting but it flooded the paper and grabbed 3 sheets for this print.

I tried a print on the high end shiny paper and it was crisp, sharp and bright. The prints when put Side by side both printers supposedly doing 600dpi the color was really disappointing on plain paper with the 8600. We use Corel for this printing and does allow you to tinker with the quality a lot but this still didn't allow it to do a decent job. I did try it in Word and with a PDF and didn't get any better results. I think this would be ok for most stuff but it really fell over with the color quality, driver flexibility and perhaps the ink it uses? I didn't try out anything to do with the fax but the copy option worked fine but with the same issues to do with the printing. Easy to set up, duplex, covered paper tray to keep out dust. Under $200.00 Very Poor Quality Color on plain paper. Touch screen didnt work every time it was pressed. Inflexable driver?

No Good – This is the 2nd printer and now has the same problem! The printer drum has failed yet again.. it copies and faxes with lines through the pages, although and how but it will scan the pages to email. Which does not suit my business as I need a reliable printer. Now I have to take this one back for a refund and source another (3rd) printer The… Read more
