Served me well for over 6 years – Print quality in normal print mode on par with most mid priced lasers, with the advantage of being significantly cheaper. InBest quality mode, using 100gsm bright white paper the print quality is excellent, well balanced colours in infographics, sharp clean looks very good. Fax is fine, used every day, touch screen needs a gentle prod to activate,… Read more

scans well, although its essential the document is loaded absolutly square in the feeder, otherwise multiple pages are pulled through. Not brilliant for photo's, my view is if you want good quailty phots buy a photgraph printer, dont expect the office workhorse to produce them. I purchased this printer from Officeworks Noosa in April 2012, is over 6yrs old, in which time I have printed over 52,000 copies, majority colour. Best place for refills is online, I complete the order cart on line, screen print then pop along to Office Works for a price match.

Very please with it, rarley jams, only if I have not 'fanned' the paper in the tray, does not like cheap paper, prefers premium brand Australia paper, the results speak for themselves. I am at a loss now as I need an A3 printer, and I dont seem to be able to find a replacement that has the same features as this one as well as the capacity to print A3 colour.

Excellent printed, yes I would buy another, although now discontinued, these printers will become an excellent second hand buy, as they appear to be totaly reliable.

Unfortunately all too common crappy HP printer – The concept for the printer is great. A nice all-in-one for light-office usage. The print quality is good, photos average. Inks cartridges are quite large and not too expensive per page if bought online (genuine HP). I first had the previous version 8600. It had a print head issue ramdonly occur, I turned if off and on and it was OK for a few… Read more

times. then it wouldn't go away. This was out 10 months from new so I got a new one under warranty (12month warranty). The new one did the same thing but at 14 months. Both of these previous model always had the WiFi disconnect issue where you can to turn the printer on/off as it loses connection after a day or two. (FWIW HP was sued in USA for issues on this printer). I heard HP had learned from this and stupidly bought the 6910 model. It solved the WiFi disconnect issue (90% of the time it works). However the Win10 driver has never worked on one of my computers via wifi (wizard won't connect, HP install software doesn't install driver, etc etc - and HP doesn't provide a *.inf driver for me to do it manually). Not too bad as it works from 2 other computers. It still gets the occasional print head error which I'm sure means it will fail soon enough.

Great value for money – I was a little surprised to read so many negative reviews on this printer. I have had mine for over 5 years and never had an issue. I have only ever used genuine HP ink (which is a lot more expensive than buying compatible ink). It has only been used for home use but it does get used at least a couple of times a week. I have used it to print… Read more

photos which are not bad quality but not great either (but this may be the photo paper I am using too). The only negative thing I could say is that when you want to copy/scan something using the top feeder - it almost always jams. So if you want to copy/scan a lot of pages it can be quite tedious; however, I don't use this often and I don't have any issues copying/scanning just lifting up the top to place them on the glass. Considering I originally bought this printer heavily discounted, and even with the cost of the genuine ink I would still buy a HP again.

Horrible printer !!! – I bought this Printer in 2015 and didn’t have problems with it until early last year 2017. Ink was pretty much expensive and I switched to non hp products in March of 2017 and everything went down hill. After I bought a non hp ink the printer started playing up and wouldn’t print . Sometimes it would tell me to check printer head blah blah and… Read more

even after everything nothing worked. I was oblivious to the fact that HP had sent out an update that barred their printer from working until you use their hp ink products . I tried all the troubleshooting and nothing worked. And then one day it just packed up.... nothing . Called hp customer service and was on hold for over 2hrs and couldn’t get anyone so I just hung up. Went online and found that other customers had the same problems since their so called software update. I have since lost faith in any of the HP products and will never recommend them to anyone ...

Terrible investment, very poor reflection on HP build quality – Printer was initially set up to automatically print random web content every day, largely wasting ink and paper. Soon after I disabled this annoying feature, I found that the printer started printing with white lines, which is a clear indication of print head failure. The problem only got worse, and within weeks the printer was unusable. A… Read more

replacement print head was around $200, which made it more economical to buy a whole new machine (what a waste!). The two-sided scanning feature is good, but most printers do that these days. Wi-fi printing and scanning was super slow, which also took away from this functionality. Overall, I've had a terrible experience with this machine, and will not be buying HP products in the future. It's sad to see what this great company has been producing more recently - I hope their engineering and customer service departments can improve these products, as I remember HP having much better build quality in the past. There's no online form or e-mail address to send customer feedback to - only phone and online chat (that I can't access due to work hours), and a physical address (that I can't use since the printer is broken!).

Print head failure means its needs disposal – Both my father-in-law and myself have experienced the print head failure which requires a full replacement costing more than printers with the same functionality. Life of the printer was far shorter than I would expect a printer at that price point. Great printer while it was working during its short life span.  Show details

Jp should make this right! – Had this printer for maybe a year. Printer head failed. Tech support tried to get us to purchase a new one for a stupid amount. Not happening. HP you should make this right! It's a faulty product. I purchased what I thought was meant to be a quality product for my kids starting secondary school. We have been ripped off badly! I will never purchase anything from HP again and will tell anyone that will listen not to.  Show details

Excellent paperweight and more! – If you are in the market for a quality paper weight, then this is the printer for you! In all my infinite wisdom I purchased two of these stunning machines. One is now working as excellent paper weight on my desk and adding to its endless list of features is that it improves your patience, why bother with yoga or meditation when you can just… Read more

take deep breaths whilst trying to keep yourself from throwing your beloved printer through the glass sliding door. My second machine sits proudly on top of my cupboard collecting dust, like a trophy you would keep on your mantel.

But the HP experience doesn't just stop there, if you ever wanted to further your experience just try HP's excellent call centre... wow! The first time I called I only sat on the phone for 2 hours! And due to my first amazing experience how could I resist calling back a second and even third time only to have to wait countless hours on the phone and eventually a week for a part to be shipped out to my unusable printers.

But if that isn't enough to sway you into spending $450+ on one of these bad boys, check out a list of things you can do with it:

- Use it as a step to reach high places

- Store things in the paper tray

- Store printing paper in it without the worry of getting ink on them

Don't buy this printer if you intend to use it for:

- Printing

- Scanning

- Faxing

Worst printer by far...Firmware issues that HP have choosen to ignore – Fairly expensive printer (Professional 8600) $300-400 Just google this model and you'll get the idea ! ANY TIME you want to print/scan/copy ...anything you have to turn off the printer....turn it back on again... and reset the WI FI controls.... Like most I have been onto HP countless times....It's the companies refusal to firstly except… Read more

there is a problem and secondly to work on a fix...the issue being it's not a software issue but a firmware issue (so sorry too hard)

It's this back up or lack of it that has lost one of I suspect many loyal customers.

HP.....Customers remember bad service longer than just a bad product.

Good all-round performer – Very impressed with this machine after having owned a string of poor mid range printers. This is the first that has worked seamlessly in our mixed Windows & Mac office. The print quality is good and the cartridges are reasonable. Have never had any problems with either the printing or scanning. The wireless and ePrint functionality works well… Read more

also.

My only gripe would be the touch screen interface and the shutdown and bootup sounds/sequence. Both are really irritating. You also need to turn off their automated spam which is sent to your printer overnight once a week or so by going into the settings. Reliable, affordable cartridges Touch screen interface

Fantastic for Office and Personal Use – What I was looking for was a unit that could meet my requirements of printing, scanning and photocopying but with the addition of wireless network printing. This unit ticks all boxes! Pros: Economical, fast, excellent quality prints / scans and copies, Easy to use. Cons: Tray feels a bit flimsy. I have used this product for… Read more ·  1

approximately one year now with heavy use. A major improvement from their previous Officejet models which progessively had a slower start up time as time went by. This unit has a quick boot up time from off and stand-by and still loads just as quickly as the first day out of the box!

Definitely a great addition to the home office.

Excellent Printer – Bought this printer 8 months back and one of the best printers I have owned. Setup was a breeze. It instantly picked up the WiFi @ my home without any issues. With Document feeder, Scanning, Print Tray, duplex printing, WiFi, it has most of the functionalities that would be required for a Home Office printer for a very reasonable price. Startup is… Read more

quick and printing quality, both Color and B&W, has been great.

Haven't printed out any photos yet, so not sure about that quality on it.

Highly recommended for Home Office and everyday use.

Great Buy! win win – Quick, wireless, duplex scan and print, two trays, scan to pdf by email, cheap to run.The print, scan, and copy quality is sharp and true to color. (I have not used the fax function yet.) The printer responds and completes jobs quickly. You can set up multiple authorized users and email addresses by using the website, with one primary email address as the default. The touch screen is a huge bonus

Excellent - love it – I purchased an Epson Workforce 4500 and after 1.5 weeks took it back with various issues. The HP 8600 was my second choice only because of price - but the extra money has been well spent!! I purchased the second tray for this printer and have printed 8233 pages since about June 2013 (now May 2014). I use the duplex scanning and duplex… Read more

printing extensively. I print from wireless from multiple computers. I scan to my computer direct and by email in pdf form. I have used the e-print facility perhaps 2 times.

The touch screen is passive not active (unlike your mobile phone) - so you just have to push it. Works fine.

The apps function that it comes with is pretty gimmicky - don't use them at all.

Print quality is adequate for my needs. I would like a laser, but I don't want the cost. I've printed to higher quality stock with good success. It's a bit harder in that you have to choose inkjet paper, but once you've worked out what you need you are right to go.

I have used (I think) 3 sets of cartridges. I had a great deal from Harvey Norman where I got the first 3 sets half-price, so printing has been VERY cheap so far.

The one disappointment is that occasionally on a big print run, it picks up more than one page, and prints half on one and half on the other. That stinks! But I think that is a fault with many printers - but HP should try to eliminate this.

Trays are fully covered and large. Quick, wireless, duplex scan and print, two trays, scan to pdf by email, cheap to run Occasional pickup of multiple sheets
