Humax HDR-7510T

Best thing I brought – I had brought another brand, but it had so many problems with it, I took it back in as it was still under Product Care and got this brand instead. I am so happy with it, as its so simple to operate, can record 2 channels at once while watching a third.
Good unit – Don't see why all the bad rating, had for a few years now and it's worked great except signal dropouts which wasn't it's fault, the remote is a dud but can be easily overcome by getting a harmony which I was going to get regardless.Never experienced the previous comments except remote issue.
Never again – I would never ever buy a Humax PVR again. The remote has died (despite following Humax's suggestions to the letter make it work) so there is no way to access the Humax, to play recorded programs or record new ones. The remote has been very poor in its sensitivity. Of late I've had to continually and repeatedly press the buttons to make the remote… Read more
work but now it has stopped working altogether. I have followed Humax's instructions to get the thing going but to no avail. That means I can't play recorded programs, record new ones or access Humax's settings. So I have machine that cost me $347 out of warranty and unusable. It's a white elephant with no usable remote that I simply can't use.
Unexpected jump forward in time – Stacey wrote "when tv is paused during a movie or something it will all of a sudden un pause and say live broadcast on the screen with NO way of rewinding back" Unfortunately this seems to be a deliberate design 'feature' by Humax designers. If you are watching anything in time shift - pausing to get a drink etc - when the next program starts (as… Read more
scheduled) the Humax people seem to think that the next program is more important than letting you finish watching the program you paused and they also clear the buffer so you can't rewind. (p.s. this does not happen with a Tivo - the best PVR ever!!!) If you were recording the program you were dumped out of you might go to recorded programs to watch the end but you have to fast forward to the point you were evicted from. Incredibly stupid design decision by Humax. I returned a Humax 1000T because of this and other really stupid design features. P.S. I have a Humax Satellite box (best picture quality I have ever seem on a Sat box) so am not rabidly anti Humax but they have made some really stupid design decisions in their PVR's.
So far so good – I bought ours from Harvey Norman about 3 weeks ago and I'm very impressed with the unit so far. There are a few quirks that one needs to be aware of, when compared to T-Box or Topfield. 1. The start up time is about 30secs. So what that means is from the time you press power to the time it displays on TV is 30sec. T-Box and others I've… Read more
experienced are under 10 secs.
2. The TV Portal again takes about 1min to fire up. Perhaps its our internet speed I'm not sure.
3. The claim that iView is available, is 100% untrue. The moment you fire up your unit for the first time it wants to do an immediate software update that renders iView unavailable.
Apart from the those three, the fast forward, time shift are excellent and fast. It takes only a matter of seconds to scroll through several hours of video (unlike the claim of another post). Navigation is straight forward and responsive. The EPG works independently of any internet connection or ICE (may try that soon).
Would definitely recommend and a worthy contender.
Good but can't rely on Series Recording function – Has performed well in basic recording, playback and time shifting, and being able to record from a TV guide is helpful, but beware -- after six weeks none of the series recordings I have set up have lasted more than two episodes without failing. The playback buttons lack fast skipping forwards and backwards functions -- in a 2 hour movie it can… Read more
take 4-5 minutes to reach a particular spot, or to resume when the system has lost your place. I have an LG with a built-in HDD that can do this in about 20-30 seconds.
Not good enough for the price!! – My husband and I paid $500 for this unit, the sales rep said they're a best seller and after reading reviews of other recorder brands and they were no good we decided to purchase this one!! Yes it records, yes you can watch it back, yes the menu is easy to read and user friendly.... BUT....this machine has had a lot of hiccups!! It has… Read more
decided to cancel recordings very often.
when tv is paused during a movie or something it will all of a sudden un pause and say live broadcast on the screen with NO way of rewinding back, so if I pause to get up for any reason I have pretty much paused for no reason as I can't watch it anyway!! This has happened twice today and nothing was even recording in the background!! The unit is not responsive when being turned on or off, and yes the remote is on PVR mode.
A little pic is that the writing in the menu is hard to read while the menu is up on the screen as the background doesn't dim at all.
Over all this is not a reliable unit as I have to constantly double check that it is recording my shows which defeats the purpose of having it auto set!!
Not good enough humax, not for $500!!
Returning after a few hours – Looked like a brilliant piece on paper. Hooked it up and went through the installation wizard, all good. Scanned all channels no dramas. Set up scheduled recordings - the keyword feature is brilliant - makes it so simple to locate programs of interest. However, it was doing strange things - changing volume, and menus - thought nothing of it. While… Read more
watching the Boxing Day Test all of a sudden it started scrolling through channels at light speed, then stopping for a few seconds and off it went again. Took the batteries out of the remote - still scrolling away. Reset the machine - still scrolling away..... after about 15 mins it stopped and settled on the cricket again. About an hour later it begins turning itself on and off (whilst also recording a show).... there was no chance to restore default settings. It's boxed up again, waiting to return first thing in the morning. I'll be trying another brand.
Humax HDR-7510T & IceTV - almost as good as TiVo – I wanted to replace my ageing TiVo before it died. I also wanted something with a larger hard drive. The Humax HDR-7510T with 1TB drive, combined with IceTV for scheduling seemed to be the best I could find. I have had it for two weeks, and so far I am pretty happy. You do need to make these changes to make it work like the TiVo though - Sign… Read more · 1
up to IceTV (you get 3 months free, then it's $99/lifetime membership) so you can remote schedule, and do series-link recording
- Turn off all the Humax power saving features. If they are active, it turns off and doesn't pick up scheduling requests from IceTV
- Switch on "auto delete" mode so old shows get deleted, otherwise you will get errors that the drive is full
http://www.humaxdigital.com/au/products/product.php?gid=443 Capable, fast, relatively easy to use PVR Menu a little clunky compared to TiVo
