Really cheap rod/reel at good quality – Been Jarvis Walker fan all my life. Now they really cheap at decent quality so can't complain. Caught more fish than my Penn/Shimano combo which cost 8 times more. Highly recommended for someone that wanna get into fishing as it is really cheap now (Kmart) Show details

Great rod/reel combo for someone starting out in fishing – We purchased a couple of 8' Jarvis Walker Classic General combos and also a slightly taller one for the surf. It was the first time we were having a go at (land based) fishing, and these were recommended by the fishing/camping store. Affordable and versatile enough for what we wanted to do. After a couple of years of sporadic use one is still… Read more

working well, the reel on the surf rod is seized up and the other reel doesn't spin very freely. BUT this is completely our fault, because we did end up fishing in a shallow bay at one place where we camped, which meant we waded a fair way out (tide was out) with a bait bucket floating alongside on a body board! Unfortunately the rods / reels were exposed (pretty well submerged at times) in the ocean. We did wash them off with fresh water and also tried to resurrect them with WD40 etc....but I guess they really need to be serviced to work properly again. Mind you one out of the 3 seems fine!

That's ok it was a learning experience and when we eventually buy a more expensive rod / reel combo at least we know how crucial it is to look after them properly.

I have to say with the number of times thes survived being yanked at after snagging hooks etc on rocks, the rods can certainly put up with a lot, so I guess more than capable of pulling in that huge fish which I haven't caught yet.

So I would recommend these as being good value for money especially if you're after an affordable entry level rod/reel combo.

Great Value! – I brought one of these combos over a year ago when I was a bit short on cash. I didn't expect much from it, but value for money it is hard to go past one of these set ups. I have had some pretty serious fish on the end of mine and its now one of my favorite rods for using live bait. Cheap, strong, casts well, good line capacity, works well with braid and sounds good when fish are stripping line. Two piece
