Kaiser Baas Photo Maker Questions & Answers

I have installed Windows 11 onto my laptop with no CD access. I checked devices and noticed that it appeared as a camera. Unfortunately no driver is available. Do you have any suggestions where I could get a driver to make my photoscanner work?

Ian R
Ian R

Hello Rod S, I too have a laptop with Windows 11 and no CD access - this is a common feature with most 'modern' laptops (sadly). I cannot recall my scanner being referred to as a camera when connecting it. The immediate (first) solution I had was to get a remote CD drive (I got an ASUS Zen Drive) and it worked although I haven't used it a great deal in recent times because I am using my 'old' ASUS PC currently for most things. As for the driver itself I suggest you check the internet to ensure that you have the most up-to-date drivers. The photoscanner should work (mine is the photomaker Pro and continues to do so) when you connect it to the laptop. Alternatively, if there are issues, it might be easier to operate the photoscanner on an older machine (if you have one) and download the photos (data) that way. I hope this helps.

hi

I purchased a Kiaser Baas Photo some time ago, I want to use it; however, I do not have the CD-ROM. Can I download the driver to my computer'.

Thanks

Try plugging the Photomaker into the PC. and see what happens. From my experience with Windows you should receive a pop-up advising new equipment found and be given a range of options - it might be that a new driver is required and it needs internet access to get it. When I get the 'new equipment/device found' I generally select the 'view file' and take it from there. If there is no pop-up then it might be that your PC has not registered the new connection and if this is the case then unplug and re-plug the Photomaker into the PC - this may have to be done a number of times.

I have a KB PhotoMaker KBA 03005 and want to use it on Windows 10. When plugged in, the light turns green, but I cannot import phitos and it is not listed under my imaging devices on my laptop. Is there an updated driver that I can install to make it work?

Ian R
Ian R

A very good question. You mention a laptop and Windows 10. My PC is Windows 10 and I haven't had any issues with it. I am uncertain about the laptop because although I have one I have not used it in connection with the Photomaker. Obviously the connection does work because it powers on but the lack of imaging devices registering on the laptop suggests that a driver update might be a good idea - provided one is available. If not, do you have an older PC/laptop to try the photomaker on?

I have not been able to find a driver update anywhere and do not have an older laptop available to use it on. Do you have any idea where I might be able to find a driver update for it?

Ian R

I am not sure I can help you any further. You can try to un-plug and re-plug the Photomaker (I've had to do that a couple of times when it didn't connect properly as per what you experienced) and that might work. Is there an older PC or can you try to plug it in to a friend's old PC etc? Other than that I can't help a great deal. Best of luck.

What Linux are you referring to? Try plugging it in and see what happens. Generally speaking it should work with most connections.

Kaiser baas photomaker medialmpression 2 model kba03005 licence key

What about it? From memory I didn't get a licence key for mine and can still work it. Have you tried working it without a licence key?

I have a Kaiser baas Photo Scanner that has been in storage for almost 4 years. It was stored in the box it came in and looks like it's in as new condition. I cannot get the scanner to turn on. I have tried plugging it into a power point, and also connected it to a laptop. No lights on either way. Is there anything l can do to get it working?

Ian R
Ian R

An interesting question. I own a Kaiser Baas Photomaker Pro and the battery compartment is underneath. Have you checked the battery? There may be one of two things wrong here - 1. the battery might be in need of a recharge or 2. the battery might be totally dead in which case you need to buy a new one and the best place to get a new one is probably ebay. If it is 1 then it needs a re-charge so plug it in to power and leave it for a while (an hour or so). Let me know the result. Good luck.

Thanks Ian, My machine is a Photo Scanner. It must be different to yours as there is no battery compartment in it. There are 2 options to connect it to power. A power cord that you plug into the back of the Scanner and the power point. Or a cord that connects to the scanner and 2 USB plugs that connect to your computer. Neither have batteries as the are just cords that connect the scanner to a power source. I have left it on lugged in for several hours. Still dead. I used it years ago and it worked fine. Very easy to set up and scan photos onto a SD card or directly to a computer. So disappointed it's no longer working. The machine is a closed/secure system, so l cannot imagine there would be batteries inside as there isn't any way to open the backing. Thanks for trying to help Ian, regards Peter.

Peter, thanks for trying and your response. Is there a separate switch to turn the scanner on? Can you supply a photo of the item or of the diagram in the instruction booklet (if there is one). That might help. Ian.

Peter B.

Hello Ian, The scanner doesnt have a separate swith to turn it on/off. Just the button on the top. Is A KBA030017 model. I have tried to attach the diagram in the manual and an image of the Photo Scanner but cannot attach them to this reply. Thanks for trying to help. I think I will have to look at other options for scanning them. Regards, Peter.

is there any hope to get this thing working again, Windows 10 drivers all updated, plug the usb into the computer green light is on. yet none of my photo programs recognise it. I have literally thousands of negatives and slides to go through. I there hope of downloading the software that works with this scanner, as it used to. OR do I just bin a scanner that is perfectly good albeit the software issue not working.

Ian R
Ian R

There is limited detail in what you have written but I assume that you are referring to a Kaiser Baas scanner? I use a Kaiser Baas Pro which is probably similar to what you are using - and I have been using it for more than 10 years. You mention ' working again' - I assume that the scanner was working previously? Does your computer recognise the scanner? If it does then you should be able to see the contents of the scanner - you should get a pop-up advising new hardware found if it is connected and your computer recognises it. You don't mention any of the programs you are using but unless your computer recognises the scanner then the photo programs certainly won't. For some equipment it might be a case of simply switching your scanner on then plugging it in - otherwise you can try plugging it in then switching it on. Let me know how it went. Good luck. Ian

Yes it is the Kaiser Baas slide and negative scanner I have had it a while, it worked on my old laptop but not the newer laptop that has windows 10 on it, I have Adobe Photoshop, psp8 , arcsoft photo impression and even windows photos none of them are picking up the scanner, I have yet to try it on the old desktop computer

Ian R
Ian R

Okay. Two points - I use Windows 10 and I do not use any particular software. When you plug a new piece of hardware into a PC there should be a pop-up advising that new hardware has been found and what do you want to do? I always choose the 'check files' option. If there is no pop-up then I suggest that your PC has not been able to locate the scanner. Check the web and see if there are any further updates, drivers etc - if you have the initial installation CD then run it again and check for any further updates. What does your old PC operate under (XP, Vista etc) and check to see if the scanner operates on it. If it does then work with the old PC and copy the canned files across to the new PC. Old fashioned way yes but if it works then good. Again, let me know how it went. Ian

I have purchased the KB photo maker and cd but I don't have the licence key which I need to upload the arcsoft cd program to computer. Can anyone help?

Ian R
Ian R

Mine is a slightly different version - KB Photo Maker Pro - because I did not require a licence key (at least I don't recall having to use a Licence Key at any stage but we are talking about 10 or more years ago when we got it). When and where did you purchase it? Can you run the CD without the key? Can you provide a photo of the Photo Maker? Don't worry, we'll get to the bottom of this.

I am running Windows 7 ultimate and have loaded the CD Photomaker Drivers & Software but nothing happens when I load the slides into the Photomaker. No icon appears on the desktop and OVT scanner is not listed under Imaging Devices in the Device Manager in the Control Panel. Russell

I have run Photomaker under various Windows conditions (XP, Vista, 7, 10 etc) and all have worked okay for me. There are a number of possible resolutions. Sometimes the computer fails to register input from the scanner USB so it might be best to try another USB port. I have also encountered a pop-up advising that the device is not recognised - if I receive this then I simply remove the USB and then re-insert it. It doesn't always work though. Another thing to try is to totally remove/uninstall all software, hardware related to the scanner, re-start your PC then reload the software etc. I do not worry about the icon - whenever I have used the Photomaker the PC simply advises new device added and what do I wish to do? My response is to open the folders file, access where the new device is and take it from there - I access the photos displayed and download where necessary. Finally, remember that the Photomaker has storage space as well so you can check what is stored before attempting a download. I hope this is of help. Goodluck. Ian

I have a PhotoMaker KBA03005 that has been in the box untouched for 10 years. I now have some spare time so thought I'd make a start on scanning my slide collection. I don't have a disc drive so downloaded the driver from the web as well as the MediaImpression software. When I go to "acquire" the slide I get an error message saying the scanner cannot be found. It's connected and the green light is on. I can't see it in my devices either. Any suggestions on what to do next?

Ian R
Ian R

My Photomaker Pro is KBA3015 so in the safe realm as yours. Mine appears to work perfectly. I also have a copy of the CD software. Do not know what you mean by acquire but suggest it is the same as capture (as per my instruction sheet). I presume you have run the software as well? Try removing the USB from the PC and then re-inserting it. What sort of PC/system are you operating? If you want a copy of my Installation disc and further info try my email imjraper@bigpond.net.au. Good luck. Ian

I have a Impression 6 CD to download the the scanner software to a computer …..

My questions are as follows….. 1. Can I use this scanner on my Apple IPad and if so how ? and 2. If my computer doesn’t have a disc accessory, how can I get the software onto My computer. Thanks…..Mike

Ian R
Ian R

1. To be quite honest I have no idea. I use the Kaiser Baas onto a standard PC so introducing an Apple Ipad is foreign territory - I have never tried it. The usual process I have followed is to download software onto the PC first then download the scanned files onto the PC and then copy the files onto the Ipad. 2. If there is no disc drive accessory then you will have to purchase a remote disc drive for your computer. Most laptops nowadays do not have a disc drive so a remote disc drive unit is required - my laptop certainly doesn't have one and I had to buy a remote (ASUS Zen Drive $90) to allow software that came with discs to download. The cost is not a lot - anywhere between about $20 for cheap ones to $100+. Good luck.

Thanks Ian, really appreciate your help. I was living in hope re the iPad, so I’m not at all surprised that it may not be possible. The remote CD drive suggestion is a great help and I’ll certainly look into that. Thanks again Ian…..Mike

I have an 'oldish' kaiser baas photo maker KBA03005 (never used) which has software for Win 7. Will it load and work in my new computer running Win 11? Bob

Ian R
Ian R

Hello Robert T. I do not honestly know. Run it and see - remember you can always try adjusting things via 'compatibility' mode. Also, I have found that it isn't always necessary to have the 'allocated' software applied - when you plug the scanner into your PC it should show that 'new device connected' pop-up and locate applicable drivers automatically. As for the Windows 11 - I run Windows 10 so suggest you plug it in and see what happens. Good luck.

what does card lock mean

Ian R
Ian R

Never had it as a response. Probably something to do with the SD memory card that you are using to record your scanned item onto. It might refer to the card being full or the card being not the correct media to record onto. Ideally, if you can get the card out then remove it and replace it with another card. Good luck

Ian R
Ian R

By the way - I will add the following - card lock can also mean that the card you are using is locked. Simply remove it from the card slot on the Photomaker and slide the catch on the side of the card to the open position and re-insert the card into the Photomaker. This should now work.

Thanks Ian seems when i pushed the card into the reader it pushed the clip on the side locking the card right now thank you

I have just charged my battery as I haven't used the photo maker for quit awhile. The button is green but it won't view the negative. The screen is just blank and I'm not sure why

Ian R
Ian R

This sometimes happens to my scanner as well. Suggest that you turn the scanner off then back on. This may need to be done a couple of times. The reason for the blank screen is unknown but sometimes turning electronic equipment (such as the Kaiser Baas scanner) Off and then On does the trick and resets the software/hardware inside and makes it work correctly. Try it and see. good luick.

I have lost the cover to my CD hence I dont have a licence key for photomaker

Ian R
Ian R

It would be my understanding that a licence key is not actually necessary. If you connect your Kaiser Baas to your PC, there are two things that should happen - 1. the Kaiser Baas will display a message asking if you wish to connect to the PC - the answer is determined by what you wish to do (if you wish to scan slides the answer is no, if you wish to download scanned slides etc then the answer is yes so proceed from there. Further, PC should detect the presence of the product (in this case, the Kaiser Baas) and a pop-up should be displayed asking what do you wish to do. Answer as you wish and take it from there. Good luck. Ian

I have recharged my battery for my photo maker but it still does not work I think that the battery is dead The battery details Li-ion battery3.7v800mAh .Can you help and coast of new battery Sam

Ian R
Ian R

I have never had a battery problem with my Kaiser Baas. If there is an issue then one thing I can suggest is to keep your USB plugged into the PC and that should enable the Kaiser unit to function. Also, if you want to get another battery, which might be a good idea, then go into ebay and do a search on the battery details that you have listed - try Jaycar as well. The cost should not be that much - $15-$30. Good luck.

I have lost my software cd to use a Kaiser Baas Photo Maker (slide scanner) with my mac, can I download a copy?

Ian R
Ian R

Hello James, While it is useful to have the Photo Maker CD, it is not absolutely necessary. I have been using the Photo Maker (Pro) for many years and have not relied upon the CD to download photos. I simply connect the Photo Maker via the supplied USB and select the desired photos via the displayed pop-up which is usually shown as an additional drive (E, F, G, etc) on the PC (under the folders icon) or via the popup which asks 'what do you want done with the new attachment?' However, I am using Windows but you are using a Mac so there may be subtle differences in operation and pop-ups. Good luck.

How can I install a Kaiser baas photo maker on my PC without a CD drive?

Ian R
Ian R

You do NOT require a CD or CD drive. I assume your Photo Maker came with CD disc and various attachments because mine did. Have you tried plugging the Kaiser-Baas usb into your PC? Whenever you insert a usb into your PC it registers as a new device and the PC should ask what you wish to do with the details on your device. I suggest you select the 'view folders' option and go from there. The connection for the lead containing the usb is at the back, near the base, of the photo-Maker. Simply plug the usb into the PC and the compatible plug on the lead into the back of the photomaker. After that it is up to you. Good luck.

Llal
Llal

Thank you. I did plug it in but nothing happened, so I thought I needed software to get it to go. I’ll try again, thanks.

OLC
OLC

You do need to use the supplied software unless you have compatible software. You can ask around for a PC with a CD drive, copy all the files (including hidden files) from the CD to the USB memory stick and run Menu.exe from the USB drive to install the software.

Ian R

Photomaker Pro software comes as a CD and with an instruction booklet - do you have either? There is no specification on the CD or in the instruction booklet regarding Windows or Apple so it might/should work for either. Otherwise, I can only recommend that you search the internet for details/downloads but I am not sure you will find anything. Incidently, the total filespace on CD is 228MB. Regards Ian
